I was, yeah.  The theater was empty, though, so no one cared.

It wasn't as funny as Step Brothers or Pineapple Express but I always enjoy Danny McBride.

I thought it looked moderately awful, so I've been surprised to hear that most people had positive things to say. It's nice to have my initial unfounded judgment confirmed.

i was disappointed by step brothers and pineapple express.  maybe it was because i was drunk, but i just went to sleep after an hour of the same jokes and no story.

That the theater was empty?  Or that I think the FOT boards are more fun than a movie?

oh shit Crooze is in this
lol

****

I just finished it

I enjoyed it
a fun little send up of war movie conventions
Robert Downy Jr. was busy being awesome, Jack Black was busy being chubby and everybody else played the background. Nice cameo by the OT7. I could see this being a fun date movie, nothing earthing shattering just a fun ride.

I thought Tropic Thunder was a lot funnier than Step Brothers and Pineapple Express. Were you baked when you saw those? That might explain it.

Admittedly the bar is low, but my favourite comedy of the year is Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

a friend suggested the same thing; we were baked when we saw Step Brothers, not Pineapple Express.  but Step Brothers looked awful (just in the trailers) when i was sober, so i am going to continue to disagree.

No sirree! I think a lot of potentially funny scenes in Tropic Thunder got ruined for me through the trailers or buzz around the movie (Tom Cruise's role could've been a great surprise.)

i thought sarah marshall blew fat dicks.  that's oen of the most over rated comedies i've seen in a long time.  it was like three hours long and even though the chicks were hot, there wasn't much of a story and i wanted to kick that main character in the balls sack becaue he's such a pussy.
Title: Re: Tropic Thunder...
Post by: Raad_Man on August 19, 2008, 03:38:24 PM
it was funny when he showed his dick though.  the movie would have been better if it had just been the lead guy and fat jonah hill looking at each other's dicks.  and then some sceens where the hot chicks kiss.

I thought that southern kid that plays the slightly effeminate/gay guy in all these movies the stand out.
He's funnier than anything else in the crap movie. He needs his own movie stat.

holy shit, that was fun.  i feel bad for having a screaming match with chris t, but it's understandable since i was hammered.  i got so drunk that when that show was over i tried to make some hushpuppies, but fucked it up and it turned into this one giant brown rock thing with no cornbread and tons of grease.  but i had to eat them because i didn't have shit else to eat.  i got really sick that morning.

The Tom Cruise stuff was painfully unfunny.  Ben Stiller seems to think that excessive cursing and ridiculous prosthetics combined with stupid dance sequences is comedy gold when it's mostly just unbearable to watch.

Nah, the only people I'll call dumbasses are those who buy a ticket to see Disaster Movie and enjoy it.

When I went to see the movie Monday night, the crowd was not laughing particularly hard at the Tom Cruise bits.  Everyone kind of whispered when they figured out who he was, there was that brief enjoyment of recognition, but beyond that?  Crickets.  Guess that kinda refutes your statement, right?

I thought the main problem with Tropic Thunder was that it essentially became the film it was trying to parody: a bloated, overly expensive action dud.  I was expecting satire or at least funny jokes, but what I got was another near-laughless action-comedy, as if there weren't enough of those.

All of this year's major film comedies have disappointed me to some degree.  Last year now feels like a distant comedy paradise (Knocked Up, Superbad, Walk Hard, The Ten) compared to this year's sorry crop (I did think Pineapple Express was pretty good but, again, a disappointment considering what it COULD'VE been, esp. with David Gordon Green directing).

99 percent of my theater was laughing.  if you were really hearing crickets, then mabe you weren't even in the theater!  but maybe you were just saying crickets as a joke.  if so, hats off to you good man for a well cracked joke.  if only ben stiller was that talented maybe a full 100% of the theater would have laughed.

aside from the fact that the sound and picture there is questionable, seating being awful, and some other things....i went there for blade runner and one of their "special guests." it was a guy who rambled for 45 minutes and acted like he was close to ridley scott and actually made decisions on the film. this guy isn't even listed on imdb, and apprently was just a PA on the film. ughhhhhhh, i don't want to go back there because of that junk.
