Haven't read much about the strategy behind choosing from the VP candidates, but I've always liked Biden. He has very good international and business credentials. Plus he takes the train, not some fancy town car, between Delaware and DC (seen with me own eyes) - he's hardhat.
-
I'm pretty happy about this choice. Biden's an old fashioned east coast pol who balances Obama's shortcomings with more right-leaning Democrats like me. While everyone was looking at the Clinton-Obama show in the debates, I was really impressed by Biden's grasp of the issues and his understanding of the situation in Iraq. He's also plenty tough enough to be Barack Obama's attack dog down the stretch. Let's just hope he doesn't say anything stupid along the way.
-
Yeah, hardhat is right - Biden is the man. I've always liked him, but seeing him in the debates this election was better than ever. He's smart and savvy as hell, and about as no-nonsense as it gets. I couldn't be happier with Obama's choice.

Oh jeezus, that's just embarassing.

He also pushed for "his friend" McCain to run on a "fusion ballot" with Kerry in 2004.

All things considered, it was a better selection than Kerry's eventual choice.

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy ... I mean, that’s a storybook, man.” --- presidential hopeful Joe Biden, analyzing his competition in January of 2007.
(Because everybody knows that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson never bathed or wore nice clothes).
-
The best thing about Biden's verbal blunders is that the Republicans are the last people to be criticizing someone for not being PC.
Thumbs up to Biden. I'm just go glad he didn't pick some nobody governor in hopes that he could carry one measly battleground state.

I saw VA Gov Kaine talk recently and was very impressed. Man to watch!

is this thing still going on? i thought we'd already have a new president by now.
obama could have picked axl rose as his running mate and i still wouldn't vote for him. john mccain is older, more experienced and also a war hero.

Plus he owns ten homes, and doesn't even know about 4 or 5 of them. He's a walking abundance of riches!
-
since when is it bad to work hard and earn money and then have nice houses? don't hate the playa. hate the game.
-
I'll vote for McCain if he gives me one of his houses that he can't remember. His wife will probably be able to dig up the address and the keys and the deed to it and all that stuff ... Maybe the wifey can also give me one of her private planes she got from Anheuser-Busch. And a couple cases of beer to sweeten the deal.
If McCain wins, will he be able to remember that he has a new house on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?
-

It's great to work hard, earn money and have nice houses. That's why I support Obama and his wife, who did such things. McCain has not gotten his money through work of any sort. For that matter, neither did Cindy.
Not to mention that his excuse for the houses thing was that the McCain men have never been in charge of finances. Well, that's fantastic. Your household budget is a bit over your head, you don't know how to keep track of something as simple as the number of properties your family owns (can't even come within 5) and don't know off the top of your head what model of car you drive, but you can handle the budget for the entire United States government just fine. I'm not sure why we are expected to believe this, but I'm guessing it has something to do with putting country first.

you seriously don't think mccain has worked hard in his life? oh come on... gimmie a break. i know you liberals want to hate on mccain but you're full of shit if you don't think he's worked. he was a freakin' war hero first of all, which still means a lot to some americans. plus he's worked in our goverment for a long ass time. you don't think it's work being a senator? you have to do tons of boring shit and listen to whiney liberals all the time.
also, it's no small task to find yourself a wife that's way younger, balls hot, and has ass loads of money. if it was so easy, then i'm sure obama wouldn't be married to the woman who hates america. like i said before, don't hate the playa. hate the game.
i don't see how come the liberals have all turned on mccain. didn't you guys used to think he was cool because he was a maverick who went on the daily show? now just because he's got the bad luck to be running against black jesus, you suddenly hate the guy?

John McCain didn't exactly go find himself a young hot wife. He cheated on his first wife, divorced her in February 1980, and married Cindy in May 1980.
Also, John McCain was born into high status. His father and grandfather were both big Navy admirals. He attended private boarding school and was a horrible student. At the Naval Academy, he was ranked 894 out of 899 in his class!! At least Obama was the President of the Harvard Law Review.
Liberals didn't turn of John McCain. He turned on himself. He flip flopped from being a maverick in order to win and abandoned his middle-ground positions on things like immigration. But he still tries to call himself a maverick when he's no such thing.
-
Let's play a game. It's called "Defend John McCain without mentioning the fact that he was a prisoner of war".
As for why I liked McCain, I can only say that I liked him for principles and bravery that he has long since abandoned (before you reply, remember the name of the game). I liked his position on tax cuts (gone), I liked his courage in standing up to bullies like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell (gone). I liked his honesty in explaining why oil drilling was a pointless venture (gone). I liked his lucidity (gone) and his personal honor (gone). Even his own campaign manager has said McCain joined the dark side. At least when Obama flips on policy, his positions tend to stay in one place (with some notable exceptions, granted).
As for hard work being a Senator, I somehow doubt that. Any job that can be done by Strom Thurmond in his late 90s is NOT THAT HARD. Though that would explain why McCain has missed literally dozens and dozens of votes this term in the Senate.

yeah, well how come you can't see that as him going out and finding a hot young wife? his other wife was older and not hot anymore. is that his fault? no. so he identified a problem and took action to fix it.
dont' tell me you liberals are suddenly going to play morality cops and get all up in his shit for cheating on his wife. i guess it would be okay if he sexually molested a young intern with a cigar in the oval office. but if he leaves his shitty wife for a better one, the liberals suddenly care about the sanctity of marriage. yeah right.
you can play your politics of personal destruction. meanwhile, i'll vote on the issues that matter... like not getting blown up by arab terrorists again.

Great idea. Why aim low when you can relentlessly provoke the bear and get blown up by Russia?
-
yeah, i hate to tell you this, but bears aren't our problem. terrorists are. if you think beating terrorists is as easy as flashing a peace sign, then let me be the one to book your ticket to iraq. you and john lennon's dead ghost can save the world.
-
Some war hero dude was constantly crashing his planes left and right. He MAY have been in the middle of one of the worst naval fires in history.

Since his Papa was an admiral none of that stuff got looked into too hard.

WTF?! That's not me, man. Or the Democratic party, actually. We are the ones who actually want to get Bin Laden, remember? Republicans are the ones who say that Bin Laden is just a figurehead and finding him would be useless.
-
I have a sign on my office door that says
"McCain: He was against torture before he was for it"

Not to mention he doesn't even know how to use a computer. So technically by posting on this message board we know more about technology than John McCain.

Well, in fairness, it depends on the technology. For example, I am probably not as proficient at using a telegraph as John McCain.
-
i liked mccain. he was bush's archvillain. and worked with feingold on the campaign finance bills, or something like that. for the past few years i like him not so much. and i've liked obama. yes he's charming and charismatic, but he's a goddamn junior senator from a state that i loathe. and as he progresses in stature he seems to regress in policy and actionable ideas.
-
I admire the hard work McCain does to raise his arms above his head.
Also, Raad_Man, I'm sorry you got blown up by terrorists. That sucks!!

Crackpots have their work cut out for them, transposing Obama/Biden into Osama bin Laden.

yeah, i hate to tell you this, but bears aren't our problem. terrorists are.
Wait wait wait hang on...

No one has mentioned the biggest bombshell of the campaign so far:
Toby Keith is a democrat.
-
He's a southern democrat, which is basically a republican with a union job.
-
He's only a VP candidate but Biden is still trying to fight a war on drugs and is against legalizing marijuana, I think even for medicinal purposes. He's also a strong supporter of the RIAA and their crusades. The first one probably isn't an issue that is going to be resolved any time soon and the second seems to be an issue every politician is clueless about but Obama keeps moving towards the center every day... He's still the best candidate and Biden is probably the right guy but I don't think the radical change is going to happen.

We've already sent Tipper Gore to the White House. Biden has some work cut out for him if he wants to be a bigger music industry villian than she was in her prime. hehe
-
yeah, i still remember how much i hated tipper gore from that warrant song 'ode to tipper gore' at the end of cherry pie. usually, i don't like political songs, but this one just had a bunch of times they said 'fuck' edited together. it inspired me to do the same thing. for months after cherry pie cam eout, i'd just make compilation tapes of all the cuss words in my favorite albums.

I am pretty sure he means clean as in legit. As in not owing their renown to an ability to generate a media circus that makes them look like ambulance chasers. And he'd be right. There have been black leaders with all those qualities, but he is the first to run for president.
The Indian comment is a definite foot-in-the-mouth moment. But that second example is only a gaffe in the gotcha way that elections are covered. I hate what its done to the way that politicians and public figures speak.

I'm only a little sorry for posting that fake. When I see stuff like that or the (also Photoshopped) image of Palin in a bikini holding a gun (http://www.friendsoftom.com/forum/index.php/topic,4107.msg80003.html#msg80003), I'm pretty happy to propagate them. I guessed that they were probably not legit, but thought they were funny all the same.
I'm just doing my part to further lower the tone of political discourse!
