Title: Anyone seen Hamlet 2?
Post by: John Junk 2.0 on August 30, 2008, 04:14:34 PM
I'm trying to decide whether or not it's worth going.

Sounds like it's not.

Also, I forgot, I'm broke anyway.  Sarah would tell me not to go.

Seriously, though, how was it?

I AGREE WITH JULIE KLAUSNER (http://julieklausner.blogspot.com/2008/08/only-point.html).

there's some funny shit in it, which is surpreising since it's basically about hamlet.  but it goes on too long.  instead of making the story about those kids and the teacher, they try to blow everything up and  bring in new cameo characters and shit like that.  i hate that shit.  but there's enough to lik eabout the movie i guess.  aint' even close to tropic thunder though.

It was alright. Steve Coogan was awesome, the kids not so much. It could've been tightened up a little, but there are definitely worse movies out now. Go see it!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to Mamma Mia: The Sing-Along Edition. Late!

Sarah would tell me not to go.

Yup.  Deferred gratification:  a pleasure at which not to be scoffed.

Even the pigeon chest stuff?

I trust the FOT and I've decided I need to see it. From these and other reviews, it looks like the kind of thing I will either completely loathe, or it will be the thing that I love totally and no one else I know understands.  Sounds like the Best Show!

But as for today, I decided just to sleep another three hours instead of going anywhere and doing anything.  This is a pretty good way to save money.  There was a moment where I stared at my leg, after waking up from the long nap, and thought "My leg is absolutely covered in curling brown hair".  Then I tried to think of how that could be made into a poem, or how it might look on the page in the manner of a "Red Wheelbarrow" style poem.  Then I realized it would make a bad poem.

Noooooooo!

I'll probably see it on video in a year or something.

Oh, well, that's all right then.  I thought you meant you had to see it NOW.  Yet again, I apologize.

Hey, if it turns up on IFC or something within your time frame, I'll happily record it and ship it off to you.  A rental saved is a rental earned, after all.  Though I suppose by then shipping might equal the cost of a rental.  Still, it's a thought.

I saw it today (with a guy I met pretty much yesterday- I guess that's what you do when you start college) and while I wouldn't go so far as to say I loved it, I liked it. It seemed like it was mostly building to the end where you see the play all along.

I'm going today, mostly so that I have an excuse to cut a meeting short.  I have a sinking feeling about it, though.  Well, better this than the inevitable Broadway adaptation.

True story: some marketing person from the company that made it (New Line?) contacted me about publicizing it on my blog.  I get a bug up by butt about publicists contacting me about shows (I only plug stuff I LIKE, like The Best Show, for example) but I thought maybe I could get something free out of it.  Nothing so far, but I haven't checked my PO Box in a while.

EDIT: I didn't say it was an interesting story.

It was pretty good, whattaya know.  Way better than Tropic Thunder.  Steve Coogan really makes the movie.

Fortinbras and Martin were formerly business partners, but it ended acrimoniously.
