Sure there's a lot of crap returning to TV this fall and lots of new shows that look awful, but what are the new (and old) shows you're looking forward to?
Aside from the new HBO shows (True Blood, Little Britian USA, The Life and Times of Tim, and Summer Heights High), the only new show I'm sort of interested in is Life on Mars. The new cast sounds good and I love the pictures I've seen of Michael Imperioli in 70s costumes. I'm also excited for all the new comedy specials (Chris Rock, Louis CK, Ricky Gervais).
I can't wait for It's Always Sunny, Simpsons, and 30 Rock. I never followed Dexter, Pushing Daisies, or Brotherhood but maybe I'll catch up in time for their new seasons (Anybody think they're worth it?)
-
I'm pumped for the new season of Lost. Otherwise, I've pretty much given up on TV. What are all those HBO show's you listed? I don't have cable, so I watch T.V. via internet. Good stuff?
I wouldn't recommend Dexter. It makes me feel dark and icky inside, and it's not very well written.
-
Avoid True Blood at all costs. It's the new Alan Ball show! It appears that this atrocity is a 9th-rate Buffy filled with more of his dull, leaden metaphors. SPOILER: The vampires are stand-ins for gays and other minorities.
(I pretty much like the first 3 seasons of Six Feet Under, especially season 3, and portions of the wildly uneven final two; Ball's episodes were generally the worst of the series. His Oldzonareveren-fueled final montage was perhaps the worst sequence ever filmed: atrocious makeup effects soundtracked by some hideous song that was probably wrangled from the One Tree Hill music supervisor. He's a dolt.)
As Beth said, Dexter is actually really bad in a lot of ways, but Michael C. Hall is superb and makes it worth watching.
-
yeah I'm pretty much with you guys,
it's always sunny, 30 rock and lost are pretty much the only shows I'm waiting for.
there's one's I'm sure I'll watch, the office, house, how i met your mother. but those arn't really one's I'm really anticipating.
and my other favorites like venture brothers, mad men, and project runway have already started or ended this summer.
It's really annoying though that i have to wait until the end of october for 30 rock and who knows when, like february or something, for Lost.
what happened to starting in the fall?
-
I forgot about Lost. I still need to finish Season 4, but I hope to get around to it.
Here are descriptions of the new HBO shows:
True Blood -- as Omar said, it's the Alan Ball vampire show. I'm not too interested in it but I usually watch the pilot for all the HBO shows at least. I actually saw an advanced screening of Towelhead and Ball was in attendance. I though the movie blew but everybody in the audience loved how shocking it was.
Little Britain USA - It's a US adaption of the British comedy series "Little Britain." It's kind of the same deal that HBO had when they brought Da Ali G Show here.
The Life & Times of Tim -- It's an animated series. Here's the synopsis from HBO: "Everybody makes mistakes, but for Tim - a self-conscious young guy living in New York - just getting out of bed in the morning could be the worst decision he makes all day. No matter the situation, life's little challenges always manage to demand the most offensive solutions, which wouldn't be such a problem if he weren't continually caught red-handed. From the mind of Steve Dildarian - the Clio-winning ad man behind Budweiser's famous 'Lizards' campaign - 'The Life and Times of Tim' follows this everyday working guy from one scandalous crisis to the next."
Summer Heights High - An Australian import. The show is a mockumentary about high school life.
I'm not that excited for any of them but maybe they'll surprise me. I'm still waiting for HBO to air East Bound and Down, the Danny McBride comedy series. I saw the pilot and it was incredible.
-
Summer Heights High is very very funny.
Dexter season 1 is good.

I like Dexter. Fun TV.
I really like USA's detective stuff. Burn Notice, The Tony Shalhoub Variety Hour, In Plain Sight, Psych. I don't care who knows it.

I don't really get how this is going to work. Are Lou and Andy going to be the same, but just Americans? What about Sebastian and his secret love for the prime minister? Are they going to turn Vicky Pollard from being chav to being a hick? I don't know about this, and also, "Little Britain" isn't even that funny.
I have similar misgivings about the Americanized version of "Kath and Kim."

Yeah, I watched it a few times of BBC America and never really laughed. There's quite a few Britcoms I'm still behind on, but Little Britain and The League of Gentlemen were two that I gave up on.
-
I'm the sucker who is going to watch "Fringe."
I'm also looking forward to "Life on Mars," reshot pilot and all. I like supernatural crap. It pleases me. Thank you, television, for bringing me more of it.
-
Anything new on network TV that looks interesting?
-
I'm still waiting for HBO to air East Bound and Down, the Danny McBride comedy series. I saw the pilot and it was incredible.
Early '09 at the earliest. Production on the season began sometime within the past few weeks, so it's gonna be a bit. I'm guessing they'll pair it with Flight of the Conchords, when that show returns.
-
I don't know about this, and also, "Little Britain" isn't even that funny.
Agreed. I'm stunned that they got three (maybe more?) series out of it, before re-adapting it for the U.S.
-
I watch approximately 67,000 hours of television a day. I can't afford to be too discriminating. I will, however, shun most crime dramas and reality shows and many sit coms.

I thought I heard Conchords is going to take a long time. I remember an interview where the band said they used like 99% of their songs for the show, so before they even start writing a new season, they want to have new songs ready. Personally, I don't like the songs on the show and think it'd be fine without them.

Their season ended in September of 2007 and they're supposed to come back in early 2009. That is a long time.

See? A useful way to narrow the field.
-
I'm watching True Blood right now and already 20 minutes in, I can tell I'm never going to watch it again. When is HBO going to get a good new drama series? I secretly enjoyed In Treatment but it's not back for another year.
Did anybody here watch Fringe? I'm a casual Lost fan and I'm not too interested in Fringe, but I've still got it DVRed.

Yes, it is. It's the other therapy show, "Tell Me You Love Me," that isn't coming back.

trueblood stinks
fringe stinks

I can't say I hated True Blood. I like Anna Paquin! Still not sure I'm going to keep watching it though - the next two eps will decide.

i dunno, i felt like they took a really cool concept and turned it into a really boring show. plus that hearing thoughts shit seems so out of left field and pointless.
i'd be way more interested if it was from the vampire's point of view.
-
I didn't hate True Blood, although Anna Paquin's acting makes me nervous (she's sometimes pretty good and sometimes really awful, and wondering what will come next makes me tense). Fringe, however, was terrible. I was startled by how lousy it was. I will, of course, watch it again.
-
Anna Paquin = Holly Hunter Jr.

Anna Paquin = Holly Hunter Jr.
Literally, in The Piano.
I can totally see Holly Hunter giving her "pointers" on the set. They were both fantastic in that movie, I think. And looked eerily like actual mother and daughter.
-
She sure picked up some of her mannerisms.

Conchords is apparently scouting locations - I saw a flyer up in Greenpoint looking for a house with a big kitchen to take over. Let's all hope that this is not like when Tenacious D had to write songs after their first batch. Ewww brother.

Anybody catch last night's premiere of Always Sunny? The first episode was so-so (not a good choice for a premiere) but the second one was classic.
-
I laughed harder at the first episode than the 2nd, but the 2nd felt more like a Sunny episode, if that makes sense.
Sweet Dee was awesome in both though, she's really stepped up her chops since the start of the show.

I skipped it, but then had to download it because of this clip (http://www.dead-frog.com/blog/entry/a_taste_for_its_always_sunny_in_philadelphia/). Man hunting Man is one of my favorite Gilligan's Island style premises!
-
Does Anna Paquin's attempt at a southern accent bother anybody else? Why does she get so many parts requiring her to speak in that twang? Did people see her in X-Men and decide she did a great southerner?
-
The only show I care about right now is 30 Rock. Can't wait~!
-

The accent doesn't bother me nearly as much as that gap in her teeth. ZING!
I couldn't stand True Blood in general. I'm really surprised HBO ended up already picking up another season.
-
I watched the previews of Little Britain USA.
I can't honestly recommend it. I thought the first season of LB was high-larious, but everything since has been just redoing the same jokes over and over and over.
It's Little Britain with Americans playing the straight people. Skip it.
-
I don't know about this, and also, "Little Britain" isn't even that funny.
I've seen the first season - the only sketch that did anything for me was the one with the Russian babysitter. Unfortunately, it may have been the only one they didn't rehash 10 more times.
-
Little Britain didn't do much for me either. As much as I find scummy brits funny.
-
I didn't like last week's SNL but Fred Armisen's impression of American Apparel's Dov Charney right now is hilarious.
-
Just feel I should report further on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, because I promoted it strongly before without actually watching what I downloaded first. While it's quite a bit more hit and miss this season, the hits are still there and the gut laughs are actually still worth waiting for. As annoying as I can find that shock-comedy thing they do to be, it still has a cleverness and a wit that makes it unique and watchable. Report over!
-
First casualty of the new season - 'Do Not Disturb'.
I feel like Brad from Newbridge feels. Now my Jerry O'Connell back tattoo just looks stupid.
-
I didn't particularly like that show, but Fox makes these decisions ridiculously quickly.
-
Survivor... Don't judge. :P
All we get is regular-ass TV (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS) and Netflix - cable and it's ilk are a waste of time/money.
When is LOST coming back? It's the only worthwhile thing on ABC.
-
I'm in the same boat HOS. I miss watching sports but that's about it. Almost everything good is legally online anyway and Netflix has a lot of good shows on their instant queue. Have you bought yourself a converter box yet? You'll get about 6 or 7 new channels and a crystal clear picture.

Tomorrow night is full of season and series premieres.... Fox's Sunday Night Animation Lineup returns and two new HBO series. Hopefully there'll be some laughs there. It's Always Sunny has been good but there's not much new comedy out there right now.

What'd everyone think of Chris Rock's special? I know he did his first world tour, but I think they'd be better off showing that in like a documentary, because I felt the choppy style of showing him tell the same joke in 3 locations was just a little weird. I also regret reading the Rolling Stone article on him from earlier this year because they told like all of his good political one-liners.
All in all, I was a little disappointed. But I'm excited for Louis CK's special on Showtime this upcoming Saturday. I went to one of the live tapings in Boston and his set is so good. Don't miss it!
I'm watching Little Britain USA right now and so 10-15 minutes in and it's awful. I'm also wondering why it uses the damn British laugh track.
-
I got a laugh out of "C - Fucking helpful?"
other than that, LB hasn't done it for me.
Enjoyed the Chris Rock special though, but I agree that it was weird to see him tell the same joke in three different outfits.
-
I thought tonight's episode of Always Sunny was both too much and hilarious. Is that possible? I dunno, as much as I feel like every episode, "this is going to go too far", they've managed to engage me and make me cringe. which is more than I can say for a lot of shows.
-
I really like Always Sunny. But the main thing that makes me uncomfortable about it is the way Dee gets a disproportionate amount of the cruelty and abuse. It seems creepy that this woman - who's obviously a knockout - is constantly being told she's fat and ugly, and being subjected to serious physical cruelty, like the urinal waterboarding.

to be fair though, she was planning on murdering them.
-
To complete my ASIP trifecta on this thread, I have to add that Sweet Dee getting equally as much abuse as the other 3 guys is reassuring to me, because it means that they as writers aren't sexist egotists. Its nice to see a show willing to give a really talented comedic actress a chance to show off her chops, without bothering to account for some outdated idea of female delicacy. That scene with her on the bus in this last episode was very close to perfection, and wouldn't have been achievable by a guy!

Fall TV: for those at home keeping score, I've now bailed on the following shows:
True Blood (after four episodes)
Dexter (after two seasons + one episode of the new season)
Heroes (after two seasons + one episode of the new season)
Fringe (after the looooong pilot)
The Simpsons (this time probably for good)
Again, trying to watch as little as possible.
-
I want to bail on Heroes, but it would mean I'd be down to The Office, Lost when it starts, and SNL. I can't do it.
So what is left on your list Martin?
-
Apart from the daily stuff (Colbert, The Daily Show, Letterman, Conan)... I guess Californication. It's harmless, only 30 minutes long, plenty of sex, etc. I've been meaning to give Sons of Anarchy a shot.
-
I thought I had a short list! Hopefully, next year brings a lot of great new shows since we didn't get that this year because of the strike.
-
Martin, I can't blame you for ditching Simpsons right now (the first two episodes have been weak) but I have hope for it. I just got Season 11 yesterday and people probably argue that even that season was weak but I think it's hilarious.
Honestly, there aren't too many shows anymore (aside from SNL/Colbert/Daily Show, Mad Men & It's Always Sunny) that are Can't Miss TV. I've got to finish season one of Pushing Daisies but I might add that to the list.
Tomorrow night is the series premieres of Kath & Kim, Life on Mars, and Testees. I've heard nothing about Testees but Life on Mars certainly has a strong cast now.
-
Hee-hee. You said "Testees".
No? I'll grow up. ;D
-
I thought this was an impossible statement, but Heroes has gotten so much cornier than ever. It is so hard to keep up with now, but I'm still trying, because I enjoyed the first (and most of the) second seasons.
The part where the testees escaped from the facility was pretty ridiculous. I just said that to say testees again, my apologies.
-

After the first 4 episodes of this season, I'm only watching Heroes to see how off the rails they can get. I'm amazed at how quickly they took what was good about the show (admittedly not all that much) and totally ruined it.
-
What's the deal with Sons of Anarchy, anyway? I know they're bikers, but there has to be more to it than that, right? Do they ride around on their motorcycles solving crimes and stuff? I could probably get behind that.
-

C'mon Wes, we all know anarchists don't solve crime, they're too busy taking down the man.
Unless because they are sons of anarchy they are rebelling against anarchy by solving crime. I'd buy that.
The real question is, how many handlebar mustaches are we talking about here?
-
New South Park series started last night.
Two thumbs down.

I agree that she's an extremely talented comic actress - probably the best one on the show. I feel like she often gets far, far more abuse than the others, and that there's a sorta creepy sexualized aspect to it.
Maybe it's all in my head - in which case I'm the creepy one.
-

You didn't enjoy Indy getting raped on a Howard the Duck pinball machine?
-
the deliverance rape scene was enough for me.
-
New South Park series started last night.
Two thumbs down.
Agreed. Last season was really disappointing and anytime they do the two/three part episodes (Imagination, Cartman/Family Guy), it is just unbearable. I liked the two Sarah Silverman episodes though.
-
Matt Walsh on Little Britain last night!
-
What's the deal with Sons of Anarchy, anyway?
This show has been a revelation to me. I had no idea biker gangs run their meetings more or less according to Robert's Rules of Order. And the boys are so well spoken! Were it not for their ink, their leathers, and their crimes, one might mistake them for Masons or the like.
-
I had no idea biker gangs run their meetings more or less according to Robert's Rules of Order.
It's not just for Baltimore street gangs anymore!
-
The thing is, there's not much free-wheeling individual liberty in Charming. Maybe the name "The Sons of Anarchy" means the current members are rebelling against the anarchic principles of their forefathers. A more accurate name might be Lodge #317. With crime.
-
Some sort of post-anarchy bikers? Color me intrigued. (Still haven't watched it. Might never do now.)
-
(Still haven't watched it. Might never do now.)
Just finished the first episode. Mark Boone Junior in an Elvis suit makes me stick around at least for one more.
-
Matt Walsh was on Worst Week last week too. In fact every week has had some weird comedy cameo from someone, but nobody here or on the comedy zone board seems to be talking about it at all. Which isn't that strange because the show itself sucks and makes no sense at all, but still, Aziz was on the first episode!
(for like 2 seconds)
edit - oops, WORST Week, not BEST.

I thought Imaginationland was funny, but yeah, last season was generally weak. After hearing about it, I don't have high hopes for this season, either.
-
Does anybody get the whole Mid-Season 2 of Twin Peaks feeling from Heroes right now? The show is just getting ridiculous with random plots and characters, while nothing really happens. And the whole present and future bullshit is not making the show any better.

Yeah, I never followed the show but I heard how the second season was just so incredibly awful. Surprising that you say it's still bad since I thought all the reviewers were like "It's back now!!"
Someone called last week and asked about Entourage. Anybody on FOT watch that show? It's one of the few shows I've followed from pilot to today and I never really liked it, but feel I have no choice but to watch it. I agree with the caller though. That episode with Eric Roberts was just so bizarre. It's either the worst or best episode of the show.
-
Heroes sucks so much this season and I was a season 2 apologist.
-
Hey Bubbles was on tonight (Andre Royo was totally wasted of course)!
-
I cannot take much more of Heroes. Learn the lesson of Lost. At a certain point, kill off or marginalize your dull characters. Suresh has been pulling down the show since Season One. Likewise Ando. And for God's sake, remember that this is a story. You are not duty-bound to report on all the characters, you are duty-bound to make those characters serve the plot. Don't tell us what each character is up to, don't give them all their own little things to do, tell us a story.
-
At a certain point, kill off or marginalize your dull characters.
To be fair, that would leave the show with only 3-5 characters.

I'll be skipping the debate but I'm not really in any hurry to watch the finale. This season has been mostly boring/annoying. Top Chef can't come soon enough.

Heroes sucks so much this season and I was a season 2 apologist.
Wow, I'm glad I never even bothered to start watching it again. I've given up on so many current shows recently and am re-watching season one of the Sopranos and catching up on Netflix instead.

I agree that lots of the designers were boring, but Kenley kept things entertaining at least. I'm torn between her and Leanne.

How could you be torn between them? Kenley is probably the most annoying person I've ever seen on the show (yes, I know she had a hard life on the tugboat). Seriously, how can you treat Tim Gunn like dirt? At least Leanne is just quietly passive aggressive.
I'm glad it's moving to Lifetime so I can totally forget to watch it.

the shrooms at joshua tree episode = world's worst.

I don't care about the tugboat, and she's an absolute brat--- but she makes me laugh because she's so ridiculous. And her clothes are really fun. Leanne is cute, sure, and her clothes are really awesome, but she has this droopy-hipster-Chan Marshall-Portland thing going on that makes me want to shake her really hard. So they're about even.
-
Kenley is the best. She's temperamental and a brat, but aren't artists supposed to be passionate and stubborn about their art? Also, what's the technical term for the little speech impediment she has (kind of a soft lisp). Whatever it is, it's kind of sexy.
also :
OH SHIT! NO RESERVATIONS IS BACK ON WITH NEW EPISODES! SPAIN!

KENLEY WAS ROBBED. I was actually really pulling for her in the end. Then they predictably went and picked Leanne. BORING.
-
whatever, kenley's collection was ugly and all over the place.
fuck her.
yay leanne!
-
Leanne can go pleat herself.
I'm fine with her winning, actually. Well deserved. Just absolutely predictable. And seriously, can she do anything besides pleats?
In the end, I always wind up pulling for the bitchy, flashy PR contestant. Which is why I was so ecstatic when Jeffery won in season 3.
-
i'm sort of with you Beth, i was all for Jeffery. i usually love the jerks.
I have to say though, of all the designers, my favorite was definitely Suede. he was a horrible designer but goddamn I could watch that fauxhawked lunatic talk in the third person for days.
-
In addition to all the pleats I thought leanne did a great job with her structured pieces. The tops of her dresses, pants, etc.
I still liked Korto's consistency with the diagonal line in the back of a lot of her pieces. But Leanne's collection was breathtaking. And I even hate the color seafoam green but I thought she used it well.

I looooved Suede.

The 30 Rock season premiere is on Hulu!
http://www.hulu.com/watch/40482/30-rock-sneak-peek-do-over#s-p1-so-i0
It's also apparently available to download from iTunes with a code from TV Guide.

Are Patton Oswalt and I the only ones left watching "Friday Night Lights"? I guess it doesn't help that season 3 is only being aired on DirecTV for now.
But seriously, where the hell was Connie Britton's Emmy?
-
Is it being shown on Hulu or are they waiting until the DirectTV run is over? I'll definitely watch the end of it, I just forgot about the Direct TV thing.

It appears to be exclusively on DirectTV until all 13 episodes of the third season have been aired.

I don't have DirectTV but they're easy to find online. I agree about Connie Britton, she's perfect in the show. That marriage really is something great.

I'm watching. I think it's been improving with each episode, with the premiere being shaky and the latest (episode four) being back to season one peaks. Fingers crossed that they keep it up.
-
I kind of like Kath and Kim. It's not great, but I can see it getting better.
-
Really, Andy? I'd say I find it disappointing, except that I expected it to be terrible. It has managed not to retain virtually everything that made the original funny.
-
Leanne can go pleat herself.
I'm fine with her winning, actually. Well deserved. Just absolutely predictable. And seriously, can she do anything besides pleats?
In the end, I always wind up pulling for the bitchy, flashy PR contestant. Which is why I was so ecstatic when Jeffery won in season 3.
the piece of work that had tattoos all over his neck?! Beth, i never know whether to trust your judgement or throw it over the cliff.
...because i was fine with leanne winning, but korto should have won. the 50's pin up chic, no thanks.

I'm watching 'Stephen Fry in America' - first stop: Maine, where he gives a lobster a massage. Five minutes later, he's talking to Milt Rombley. I approve of this show.
It's up on thebox, if anyone's interested.
-
I will hie me thither forthwith, samir.
-
II never saw the original Kath and Kim and I mostly only like it because I have a crush on the daughter (or rather, the actress that plays the daughter)
-
Ah. Someday, you'll see the Australian version and understand exactly what I meant. Meanwhile, enjoy your crush.
-
she's adorable.
-
she's adorable.
Hey everybody, it's Trembling Andy!
-
the actress I'm talking about actually is adorable, though.

you talkin about Selma Blair? I love her and want her to marry me :'( 8)

New South Park series started last night.
Two thumbs down.
Agreed. Last season was really disappointing and anytime they do the two/three part episodes (Imagination, Cartman/Family Guy), it is just unbearable. I liked the two Sarah Silverman episodes though.
Glad Matt & Trey had to resort to another two-parter this week. Pretty soon I think I'm just going to leave South Park behind.

They almost had me, but lost me at the giant hamster nonsense.

Is that from Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations?" That's my new favorite show. It shows how much fun it would be to tour the world with Lou Reed if Lou Reed were much taller and much, much nicer.
-
I just found out the other day that Christina Hendricks (Mad Men's Joan Holloway -- the hot redhead) has a boyfriend, the hideous Geoffrey Arend. You may remember him from the beginning of Super Troopers as one of the stoners who get arrested or in Garden State as the creepy hardware store employee who tries to get Zach Braff into his pyramid scheme. It looks like he played "Mohammed" in An American Carol.

Has anyone watched Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food? I love it! I know that lots of people (especially in the U.K.) seem to hate him, but he's one of my heroes. I found it genuinely moving. There was a little bit of manufactured drama in the way it was produced, but generally speaking, I think Oliver is using tv to advance his project rather than exploiting his subjects in order to make entertaining tv. Worth a look for people who are interested in the politics of food.

Where can one see it?

I have not seen this but I adore Jamie Oliver and will now proceed to seek it out. Thank you, sir!
-
Where can one see it?
It's on thebox. I also recommend Jamie at Home (also on thebox), which is his most recent cooking show. It's probably the best one I've ever seen. Bee-yoo-tiful photography and dishes that are do-able for normal people. Besides the food porn aspect, it's also got a large dose of lifestyle porn. The guy's house is incredibly lovely. I'm sure he works too much to enjoy it properly, though. (I guess I've got a small dose of sour grapes after all!)
-
J. Oliver rules. He even held his own on Iron Chef v. M. Batali.

Guess I'd better download Ministry of Food.
The Food Network is currently reairing Jamie at Home on Saturday morning. I've already transferred about sixteen episodes to a DVD and eventually will get the rest. Have you seen Jamie's Great Italian Escape? Not at useful as Jamie at Home but entertaining.
I know he's got to be an operator, but he's so much nicer than Gordon Ramsay.

I've seen most of Great Italian Escape, and agree with your take.
My perception of Oliver is that he's an operator insofar as he knows how to work people, and trick/flatter/charm them into doing what he wants them to do, but he's working for good. All his major projects have been charitable - unlike Ramsay, who seems mainly to be creating an empire. (Admittedly, Ramsay's very entertaining, and probably one of the most skilled restauranteurs [sp?] in the world.)
-
Agree with the rest of you about Jamie. He's a good guy. Also, his Italian cook book is surprisingly great.
Downloaded Ministry of Food, watching the first episode now. Five-year-olds who've never had a home-cooked meal... pretty fucking depressing.
I'm drooling over Jamie's kitchen (in his house), just amazing.
-
I love when he cooks in his garden. I drool over his outdoor oven.
-
I'm just glad the WB brought back Stinkle and the Kid.

Watched the whole thing. Pretty good. Couple of great characters there.
-
"'Ave ye got a potato grater?"
I wish I hadn't watched that first ep while eating a Twix.
-
I think I might know why the show depressed me more than it cheered me up: it really reinforced my experience of class in the UK. Everything from the participants and Jamie's "bubble" (as it were), to the council members and factory bosses. The class system is still so alive and vital in the UK, everytime I visit I'm reminded of it. It's almost like people unconsciously take some pride in it. (I don't have to tell you this, Samir - it just dawned on me.)
-
Yep, you're right. The thing that I liked about it was that it showed a guy who is really trying to help, and that he was taking real professional risks. I guess they were going to edit it to look as though it had a successful resolution no matter what, but there seemed to be a real risk of failure - and also just of looking like a jerk. And there was no faking the sense of accomplishment and pride - in some cases, for the first time in their lives - that some of the participants were feeling.
Also, I liked the crazy accents.
-
Sorry to bring back Stephen Fry in America, but on last night's episode, he encounters Truck Nuts.
"Do you suppose they hang these from the rear view mirrors?"
-
Somebody told me I should watch Shameless. I don't know anything about British TV... is it any good?

Can't wait to "acquire" this episode. I enjoyed watching him hatin' on Miami in the last episode.

While tonight's South Park wasn't all that funny, I'd love it to be true.
-
Gene Simmons is on "Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader" right now. The only question he's gotten right so far is that excited is an adjective.
He just said that the age to vote is 21 and then plugged his new book called Gene Simmon's, The Art of War which I think should be on every fots amazon wish list.

I especially liked that Grandma faked her death.

It was like they whipped it together so fast, they didn't have time to put in jokes. That thing was a flop even by their low standards.
Then again, roommate said it was some sort of Oceans Eleven thing or something? Maybe it would have been funnier if I'd ever seen that movie.

It wasn't a flop, especially not after the awful two-parter. I guess I'm just a sucker for a drunk Randy Marsh. And yes, it was Ocean's 11.
-
Life and Times of Tim has quietly been my fave new show of the season, and last night was its best episode yet. There was even a big NY vs. Philly routine.

i saw the episode this weekend. i enjoyed the first 10 minutes; the election party i attended was that situation ENTIRELY.

It's pretty funny, but not essential.

last night's entourage had a go at kevin smith, calling him, in less polite terms, a cupcake enthusiast.

This show continues to make me laugh more than many.
