How many of you chuckleheads are on Last.FM (http://www.last.fm/)? Wanna start an FOT group? Want to be my friend?
My user name is BraveLilToaster. Woooooooooooooo. Please make fun of my taste in music.
-
I'm Edameron.
-
No one else? I guess Newbridge won't be reprazented on Last.FM then. :'( :'( :'(
-
Patience, my child. Newbridge wasn't built in a day.

-
There already is a FOT group!
http://www.last.fm/group/FOT%2BJukebox
-
Hooray!
-
Oh noes. We need more than 15 members.
Hey, jerkfaces, download the little iScrobbler doodad and join the FOTJukebox. Or I'll cry.
-
membership is climbing -- slowly.
I see that 3 members are 'pending' -- I thought that was because I had to approve their memberships but I couldn't figure out how to do that ?? (it's been a while since I checked the group *cough*) so I changed the group membership to 'open' as in approval not necessary -- their memberships are still pending. Maybe the site has to update itself.
-
Sheeplike, I follow. Username FOTSarah.
-
Awww. My membership to the FOT Jukebox is still pending. I have the card and everything! Which I laminated at work! And keep in my wallet!
-
I have a feeling once we get 15 members the Buzzcocks are going to be the top artist.
-

Come on now. You know some wiseass will loop Billy Joel for 5 days at some point, just to fuck up our chart.
~EmD
-
I don't want to know what the charts will look like if the Goshen kids infiltrate the group. They definitely have Myspace accounts, so there's a good chance they use Last.FM so everyone can see that they listened to that "Snakes on a Plane" song before everyone else on their friends list. Or something. I don't know.
-
Come on now. You know some wiseass will loop Electric Eel Shock for 5 days at some point, just to make us kick ass.
~EmD
Yes. Yes I will.
-
or better yet the muldoons covering electric eel shock on a loop
-
Even better: Muldoons doing "Agitated."
-
14 members! almost there...
Please let me know what artists, labels and countries you think I should add as connections...
-
Numero 15! There's gonna be a bunch of Bread on the list now, though. I hope that's okay.

This is a good thing for me, this Last.FM. It means I'm too embarassed to play one song OVER AND OVER for like a month. I'm actually listening to my whole music collection. AWESOME!
-
See it had the opposite reaction than you. I'm playing the same Bread song, over and over, just to make it the top song.
-
I haven't even tried to figure out how the damn thing works yet; I only added my name to bulk up the members' list. I usually just listen to FMU these days, anyway; it is sadly rare for me to choose something for myself. It makes me a little sad, actually. Hundreds of CDs and even more hundreds of records are sulking in the other room as I write this. God forbid they ever become sentient--they will wreak a horrible revenge on me for my neglect.
-
19 members strong!
Capt. Beefheart (bleh!) tops this week's top artists chart, tied with Big Star, Mission of Burma, T.Rex and Minutemen!
Anyone use www.pandora.com ?
-
I use Pandora from time to time. Last time, in fact, it decided to play a Marky Ramone song for me.

Now 20 members strong.

-
I'm in the group, I'm here (http://www.last.fm/spreebobrev)..
I'm gathering that I should listen to Wire!
-
Ha, that was mostly me, I think. I listed to a lot of Wire that week.
And thank you, Sarah. You did make me very happy, indeed.

I'm in. Mark_I.

I just joined to feel like I am music-savvy as the average FMU listener. In truth, The Best Show is the only show I listen to and I only recognize about 1/3 or 4th of what Tom plays. I'm willing to learn tho! This will be great for recommendations.
-
I've signed up and i'm in. Well done Laurie!
-
Well, I enjoyed this while it worked. The scrobbling feature has been sketchy for me. It worked the first couple days I used it, then stopped suddenly. I re-installed Last FM and Windows Media Player and fixed it. Now it's stopped working again.
I'd say it probably has something to do with the disturbing amount of viruses on my computer. I can't even run ad-aware all the way thru. I'm going to be getting a new one soon tho and I'll be back in the game. Thanks again for mentioning this site, it's really cool.

I joined.

Try checking that the AudioScrobbler WMP Plugin is turned on by going to Tools -> Plug-ins in Windows Media Player.

HEY! Who's listening to Jay Reatard with me?
-
I just made a new one on my new computer after my sister ruined my other account. It's DanBallin.

I must know what she was listening to. Is she a teenage girl? I'm going to guess My Chemical Romance and AFI.

She's 14. My Chemical Romance is included. Along with Fall Out Boy, Jesse McCartney, The Jonas Brothers, and Jojo. Her extreme amount of listening to these artists has led me to actually know the lyrics.

For her next birthday? Headphones.
Seriously.

Yeah, she has an iPod, but likes the computer speakers.

Ted Leo and Jay Reatard have taken over the FOT Last.FM charts!
I think the description should be changed to What Tom is enjoying... sheep! Just kidding, I've been listening to Ted Leo too.
By the way if you have a different player than an Ipod there's a program out called Zenses that allows you to scrobble what you've been playing on your Mp3 player. It's really nice. It is a little slow but cool since I listen to most of my music on my Mp3 player.

Awwww, your icon is cheezburger cat.
-
Hey Last.fm FOTs,
How obscure are you?
http://mainstream.freevicente.com/
A lot of stuff (e.g., Lil Wayne) is more obscure in the UK than in the US.
~EmD
-
Awwww, your icon is cheezburger cat.
Yeah. It's my icon on AST as well. I saw 'chzburger' and it consistently made me grin, so it was on my desktop for a long time. Now I've upgraded it to icon territory.
-
I'm 16.68% mainstream! I'm right in the middle of the curve.
-
28.07%. Radiohead's extreme uk popularity 103% kind of brought that up.
-
Big old 4.65 % mainstream!
-
12.15%
-
I think it's funny that mainstream is red (bad) and underground is green (good)
-
Now is the time for us to gather together and celebrate those songs that we like and think are good.
-
Ick. I just joined it. I can't believe I joined another thing. It seems complicated and time consuming. I'm nauseous. I wanna cookie. I joined the group though.
-
I'm 11.1% mainstream. This percentage is misleading, though, since it appears to be calculated on the basis of what FOT at large have scrobbled, and my own tastes account for little of it (I've barely scrobbled a thing; I mostly just listen to WFMU when I'm online). Indeed, I don't recall ever hearing some of the bands on the list, and others I downright avoid.
I do like X-tal, though.
1 X-tal 0.00 100 %
2 Jay Reatard 0.23 93 %
3 Ted Leo and The Pharmacists 17.14 60 %
4 Maskull ??? 60 %
5 WFMU and Tom Scharpling 0.03 40 %
6 Scharpling & Wurster 0.03 20 %
7 Talking Heads 31.39 13 %
8 Ennio Morricone 16.24 13 %
9 Ultravox 6.28 13 %
10 The Birthday Party 3.33 13 %
11 Cat Power 35.61 13 %
12 Palace Brothers 1.67 13 %
13 Radiohead 103.57 13 %
14 Wu-Tang Clan 18.42 13 %
15 Add N to (X) 3.22 13 %
16 Steve Earle 4.41 13 %
17 Frank Zappa 19.65 13 %
18 Cheap Trick 10.66 13 %
19 The Damned 7.14 13 %
20 Mogwai 34.10 7 %
21 Eileen 0.25 7 %
22 Q and Not U 8.59 7 %
23 The Shins 61.43 7 %
24 The Jesus Lizard 2.52 7 %
25 The Flaming Lips 50.63 7 %
26 The Beatles 101.49 7 %
27 The Smashing Pumpkins 67.67 7 %
28 My Bloody Valentine 24.07 7 %
29 Flamin' Groovies 1.21 7 %
30 Streetband 0.01 7 %

Nah. Once you've downloaded the software, there's nothing else you need to do - it'll create charts for you whether you log into the site or not. It's just a fun way to see who else is listening to the music you're curious about, or to get mathematically sound recommendations. I'm sure you can meet webcam strippers there, too, but you might have to dig - start my searching for that "My Neck, My Back" song.

I'm converted. Once I found out people in Japan that I don't know about have been scrobbling Ponce De Leon without my knowledge, that was it. And I'm totally registering as a label and uploading old Tokeleys tracks as we speak. Or at least trying.
-
Swedes keep visiting my profile. What's up with that?
-
Not clear to me if people use last.fm simply to track what they play themselves, or if people avail themselves of its streams.
If the latter, this software may be of interest -- it can save the streams as mp3s.

New url for the Mainstream-o-Meter (http://mainstream.vincentahrend.com/). I'm 4.83% mainstream this week!
-
that's funny: Big Star is 6.2% mainstream. Oh, poor Alex Chilton. He can't even cross over in the milennial cyberspace.
-
That's what you get for playing jazz standards and lounge music live....that's exaggerating a little but the guy has no desire to bring awareness to Big Star.
-
Sorry for coming in way late on this thread, I've been a bit out of the FOT loop, as I'm sure none of you cared to notice. My user link is http://www.last.fm/user/DigiDan/ (http://www.last.fm/user/DigiDan/) ... and the last time I took the mainstream-o-meter I was at 0.75% ... although I'm sure that has changed a lot since my charts are contantly different because I listen to new stuff every week. Now that Aphex Twin is back in my top 15 I'm sure my mainstream level was booted way up.

If anyone here would like to take over the last.fm FOT group (now with 139 members), I'm happy it to hand over...

It's kind of funny how the FOT chart is exactly what you would expect it to be.

I just stumbled across last.fm again after years and realized, oh, this group still exists. Is anyone an active user? (tangent - so many of the early participants in this thread have now disappeared from this board... I guess I have too basically).
-
I still scrobble! I don't know why, but I guess that counts!
