who's gonna go see him? I missed him when he was around last April and I wanna go this time, but none of my friends want to/care enough to go. I'm gonna have to take the take from Northern Jersey (Passaic County) myself. How many Best Show fans are going? So at least I will have something in common with some people in the crowd.
-
He's going to be here (Boston) soon but I'm not sure if I'll be going- a similar lack of friends with decent music taste situation.
I might as well ask- anyone seeing Big Dipper (and Boston Spaceships) on the 30th? That's definitely worth going alone for me.
-
I'm going to catch Boston Spaceships in Memphis. It'll be my first time seeing Mr. Pollard in a live setting, so I am very excited. I'm curious as to how long the show will be, what material they'll play (besides the new album), etc. Pollard's said that he won't be doing any of the GBV standards. Tommy Keene's playing guitar, so maybe some Keene Brothers songs will work their way into the set. Hopefully they'll do "Supernatural Car Lover" or something like that.

Pay attention to the box office, the Boston Spaceships sold out here in Philly already. I did hear a couple tracks, and Chris S./last GBV bassist reportedly played all the guitars on the record. With that being said, it sounds quite good and tickles me a bit more than the last few RP offerings.

Just got a ticket for Jay Reatard, King Khan, AND Mission of Burma at MHoW for FIVE dollars.
-
Jay Reatard was pretty alright. I enjoyed it. He brought out the acoustic guitar which was weird and a little gimmicky. He's getting kinda metal now. Dutchess and the Duke were a little boring and a lot derivative, but passable. King Khan and BBQ brought it. Crazy costumes and they got most of the audience dancing. Some of the most fun I've had at a show. Then Mission of Burma played and were fantastic. Those guys still have it. Two encores. Pretty great. I didn't recognize a lot of the Obliterati stuff they played, but they played a good amount of Vs. and Signals stuff that rocked it. probably the best five dollars i've ever spent.

That was a great show. Did anyone go to the Hoboken Jay Reatard show?

Yes, I was there.
I actually thought the acoustic guitar was the best part of the set. I mean, he's been playing acoustic at shows for years (just not touring with it). "I'm Watching You" is an amazing song, too. This was by far the longest set I've seen him play, and also probably the best.

I was there as well and can confirm the show's awesomeness. One of the opening bands, Cola Freaks, was quite good also. Their bass player was outstanding.

I really enjoyed the Music Hall show. He played the songs at normal length instead of all speeded up in a blur. And he played for a half hour. It was like a real show! :)
Not that I didn't enjoy the old break neck pace but it was a nice switch.

the maxwell's show was great and I met a handful of FOT's so that was pretty sweet too.

i went to this retard's show and there four opening bands that went on for hours, and by the time they finished I had to leave to catch my train. And there was a ramones cd playing on the stereo. fuckin' bowery ball blooms. They almost didn't let me in cuz I was 17, but I was way too cool, so they let me in. I had a seven dollar Guiness though, that was pretty good.

Guiness seems to be the choice for seventeen year old FOTs drinking illegally in bars.

I think it is probably just that Petey and whoever else it is that you might be talking about have sophisticated tastes.

Excuse this for being a tad off topic, but JR disappointed his handful of area fans when he came down here a few months ago...

I know Dallas ain't exactly Rock City, USA, but c'mon. Put on your hard hat and do your job.

It's Jay Reatard -- what do you expect? Obviously the guy is a cokehead maniac, but that's kind of what makes him so great, just as long as he keeps making really great songs.

I'd respectfully argue that the really great songs are what make him so great. Being a cokehead maniac just makes him a cokehead maniac.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I unfortunately have just come to expect this kind of stuff from the guy.

Just saw them here in VA about an hour ago, they played a blazing set. It sounded like there were about 3 guitar players onstage, but it was just Jay.
