Title: FOT After-School Activities
Post by: iAmBaronVonTito on October 07, 2008, 06:08:08 PM
this is different than the extra-curricular activities.  these are things that are coming up that i think FOT could/would/should attend, but i have nothing to do with them.

and so, here's what Patton Oswalt is doing in LA tomorrow nite:

TOMORROW NIGHT!
7:30 pm at The New Beverly Cinema!
www.newbevcinema.com
A WORLD PREMIERE!

Okay, so here's what I'm doing tomorrow night.
I'm showing Chris Smith's amazing documentary, AMERICAN MOVIE.
That's at 7:30. I think I've seen this amazing movie five times in a theater,
and tomorrow night makes it six.

THEN, at 9:40 pm, I'm premiering CARS III.

CARS III is the "feature debut" of Portland filmmaker Bobby Hacker.  Except
it's only 409 minutes long.   And we'll show CARS and CARS II beforehand
(they're each 2 minutes long).

Bobby will be there to explain and defend.
He and I will ONLY BE THERE tomorrow night, Wednesday the 8th.

PS if you don't get the patton Oswalt email, sign up.  otherwise, you're missing out (especially if you live in LA).

Though I'm sure many of you will have already read it, Patton's interviewed about it today on the AV Club:

I recently watched one of the final night's films, Murnau's Faust, for the first time.  I guess it's not as well known as Sunrise or Nosferatu but it's an absolute work of Welles-like visual genius.  Incredible what that guy was doing at that time.

I went last night. It was incredible, anyone in the LA area I suggest going and seeing Cars 3 tonight it's... an experience.

the only real bummer was getting totally Micky Dolenzed by Patton.   hate pit.

i dont know about his appearance last nite, but from an email from patton yesterday:

This Friday and Saturday I will NOT be at The New Beverly Cinema to introduce NIGHTHAWKS or COMMANDO.

But guess who will?

How about Edgar Motherfucking Wright?

That's right,  7:30, Friday night only, Edgar will introduce NIGHTHAWKS, a personal favorite of his.

I'll see you all Sunday!

- Patton Oswalt

plan accordingly.  sorry you didnt catch him last nite, colin.

oh, he was there.

he just snubbed me the way dolenz snubbed tom. I wanted to tell him I was a fan of his and an FOT.

I shook his hand and said hi and he just was like "hey man" and turned away from me while I was in mid sentence.

dissed.

you're in lipstick city, colin- you can't expect those beverly hills celebrity fat cats to make time for you on their dime.  it's time to play with the big boys.

but really, that seems uncharacteristically like patton.

Another of Patton's picks, Charley Varrick, is running this month on comcast OnDemand.  Here are but a few reasons why you should check it out wherever possible:

1. Walter Matthau stars in a role apparently written for Clint Eastwood
2. The plot is surprisingly similar to No Country For Old Men, complete with Joe Don Baker in the Chigurh role (though regrettably not with that haircut).
3. To hear the line from John Vernon that – as hard as this may be to believe – Tarantino famously ripped off for Pulp Fiction.
4. Matthau beds a hot, penthouse-dwelling blonde simply by projecting sheer Matthauness.
5. There's a mob bank robbery at the beginning, just like The Dark Knight!
6. Finale = cropduster chaos
7. If I remember correctly, Vernon at one point tells Matthau that “fat, drunk and jowly is no way to go through life”

Henry Chunklet is going to be in Seattle on the 16th at Sonic Boom Records, promoting the Rock Bible. I'm kind of tempted to go officially challenge him to a game a Tomball, on behalf of FOT the world over. Any Seattlites down?

Is that the guy who calls the show? I'm a dummy about that, but it seems kinda tempting. I am not free the 16th, but otherwise would be down!

Ooh, can't wait for Mer-man's book, that'll be good. He should be on TBS too - they'd be a good combo.

Also, Seattle FoT, this will be fun. Short notice and all, but still. Come, if only to fight Emmett's big, stupid beard!
