Title: Exciting News. For myself.
Post by: Spoony on October 08, 2008, 11:38:00 AM
Since I've been bandying about my homelessness on this site as if I was proud of it, I thought I would announce that I've officially found an apartment that I'm moving into, November 1st.

My summer of wandering and couch-surfing has come to a close. I can listen to the Best Show, in comfort, like real people do. Not sitting in the park with a radio, trying to get a signal. It's getting cold out, and my ability to listen all the way to the end of the show in the cold is not something I want to test.

I have a job, I have a home, and this heat wave is in the past. I'M BACK ON TOP.

Thanks for being friends and having a great sense of humor to relate to, FOT's. You've really been a help.

1 br in Carrol Gardens, rent stabilized, for those of you keeping track. The Never-Never Land that is Williamsburg is behind me. I'm a Grup now.

I didn't know you were verging on homelessness, but I'm glad to hear you're not. NYC in winter without an apartment sounds pretty unforgiving.

Good news indeed, Spoony. Best news I've heard all week. Wait -- there hasn't been any other good news this week.

Well, anyway, Carroll Gardens is a great, I'd like to live there actually, and I'm happy for ya.

Congrats, Spoony.

Hey, since you're still technically homeless, do you have one of those overloaded shopping carts covered with a tarp?  I wondering where to get one of those.

The object is to find a giant cart in a Sam's parking lot. Then, let your collection of "Found Art" slowly grow. As it gets bigger, you will learn to slowly compensate. Unless you just happen on a big ol' pile of great junk, like a pile of car seats, swords, and roller skate wheels, then you cross the tarp-bridge when you get to it. Try to find a used car lot. They always have those big inflatable pieces of crap that are always hanging above the lot advertising sales. Just use the cover of night and your new sword to drag one down and carve up to whatever your needs may be.

Never in a thousand years did I ever see myself living in Carrol Gardens. I'm going to start pushing around a tram until they warm up to me, but I got an "in" on this place and hustled to get it. I'm glad I've been waiting and holding off until the right place came along.

Von Tito... nicely done, Mr 1000. I aspire.

When do you get the "My Life Is Perfect, Nothing Could Ever Ever Possibly Go Wrong" tattoo?

That's gotta be a huge relief. I did that for a few months in a small college town, I couldn't imagine doing it in NYC. Congrats.

You're going to hate me for saying this, but I lucked into it. A woman I work with is friends with the realtor. Whenever she get's a Hot Tip, she gives her friends first dips on it. I've been complaining and complaining, so the co-worker fwd'ed me the email. I was the first to look at it and said 'yes' the second I saw it. I'd hate me for this, too, but I've paid my dues and will sleep soundly over it.

I guess the only moral to come out of this is that realtors are evil little squirrels who are burying the good acorns. It's like job hunting: it's who you know. Start asking around and see if anyone you know is in league with the squirrels.

And I would host a Listening Party. We should probably do it while I have no furniture. I'll probably be throwing a shin-dig once I get in. I have people who have been taking care of my dumb ass who I need to host and treat right.

PS- I don't know if the mustache is coming back... the ladyfriend has gotten a little too used to a younger-looking me. (No filthy connotations intended on that.)

No reason to hate, Spoony.  The only reason NYC isn't 100% populated by rich people is that tons of us simply luck out through some sort of personal connection.  This true of me and of most of my friends, and it isn't such a terrible thing.

I'm in for the listening party, if you decide to have one.

It sounds like it was time for you to get some good news, Spoony. Congratulations! I think the task of finding housing in NYC would defeat me. And I think my poor midwestern heart would seize up from the sticker shock.
