I thought I was cool, but I didn't even get the Heave Ho, just a hang up! What gives? Mike was nice about it.
-
Pump the brakes!
-
You are right.
-
Tom hangs up on most callers.
Unfortunately given the way telephones work, this is the only way to finish most phone calls. ;)

You'll be alright, Jake. The key is listen for what doesn't get GOMP'd (yeah, that's right, I still use the term GOMP) and do more of that.
If you listen to the archives from this year, you can track my calling record which started great, turned horrible, and is now in the process of being rehabilitated.
But the bottom line is, don't be discouraged. Tom will give you a second chance.
-
Thanks Steve, I appreciate your help. I'll give another listen to more of the archives.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

If you are who I think you are, you are probably coming on a little too strong. Just ease up.
-
This is a good opportunity to offer some advice to the callers: unless you called during the pre-topic portion of the show and would also like to contribute to the post-topic portion of the show, it's probably best to limit yourself to one call per show. Also, make sure you have something relevant to add to the show (you'd be surprised how many people call just for the hell of it--some of them aren't even listening to the show!). Multiple callers tend to have diminishing results with each call and also run the risk of being perceived as an irritating crackpot.
-
AP Mike for Mayor!
-
I've been gomped because he thought I was making fun of him and Heave-Ho'd over my "parental supervision" (even though it's a "family show"). No big deal. Don't let it get you down. He only really goes off on people like James.
-
I cried when I got heave ho'd. I spent the next two days agonizing over why it happened. It turns out, of course, that Tom was right. I should have been heave ho'd. I know better for next time, but I haven't quite got up the nerve to face another try yet.

For serious? Come on Lacey, it's just a show! No one should take it personally, it's funny when people get gomped.
I miss "GOMP". I'm not much of a "heave ho" fan.
-
He Hate Me.
-
I don't think he hates you, Trembling Eagle; he just isn't quite sure you exist:
I'm ready to declare Trembling Eagle a character.
It is impossible for all of these elements to be within one real person.
Tom.
-
ok, I don't think Tom hates anyone, I was wrong and I apologize to Tom for starting this thread. I've been listening to a lot of the archives for the past week and I can see where I was really annoying. Sometimes it's just hard for me to sit on my hands and not get into the action, but I will make it a resolution to only contribute when I can make a difference.
-
Yeah?
-
Haha
-
yes Sarah, why?
-
I guess I don't understand why you'd call three times in one show... can't you see how that might not work out for you?
-
I had called in once a long time ago and got swiftly GOMPed. I was traumatized for a few days but now when I listen to that show, I realize that it wasn't personal. Tom GOMPing me made that minute of the show very funny.
-

Tautologically, I rest my case.
-
Erika - I didn't realize that you were only allowed one call

Apparently I didn't make it clear that I meant calling in to TBS. Geez!
-
I think Tom likes me, but he gave me a really bad wedgie when I ran into him outside of Studio B. It's kind of hard to tell, but all the other DJs have told me that this is a sign of acceptance.

I think that was Tom's way of getting out a little of that frat aggression that surged up in him during the H-Man episode.
I would ONLY join a frat if Tom were involved.
P.S. Grote, can't wait to hear more Acousmatic ... even though some of those recordings are kind of scary.
-
Erika - I didn't realize that you were only allowed one call
I'm just saying that most people only call once per episode, maybe twice. I think I double-dipped a handful of times... but never three times. YOU'RE BLOWING MY MIND WITH THE TRIPLE CALL.
*explodes*

Erika - I didn't realize that you were only allowed one call
It's not so much a rule as it is a matter of tact and social grace.

It is a rule if you lack tact and social grace.

Shop for a coffin?
-
I'm hoping for at least four more pages of this lovely thread.
-
Tautologically, I rest my case.
If this is a word I am going to start using it
-
Julie = tact and social grace?!?!?! ???
-
Shop for a coffin?
Yea, let's nail this thread and bury it 6 feet under
-
But we might get true blood on our clothes.
-
Julie = tact and social grace?!?!?! ???
Well, Julie at least has a concept of them.

Wow, that was ugly
-
Julie has gone from show menace to beloved FOT faster than anyone I've ever seen. Show some fucking respect.

all newbies must be whipped. It's the law of the pit
-
Julie = tact and social grace?!?!?! ???
Julie gets GOMP'd / Heave Ho'd all the time!
-

Julie gets GOMP'd / Heave Ho'd all the time!
I am disappointed when I do not. And I don't try to be on the air one million times per show because I do have a concept of tact and social grace. Go hang, deb from portland!
-
Yeah, love her or hate her, Julie is at least comfortable with her place in the grand scheme of things.
