Title: favorite individual Best Show episode?
Post by: cutout on October 21, 2008, 12:03:16 AM
I hadn't listened to the November 21, 2006 episode since it originally aired and I'm realizing some of my all-time favorite bits derived from that one show:

Tom was in The Zone that night.

My all time fave is where "Tom sings most of Bridge over Troubled Waters to a troubled teen" I've listened to that one many many times.

I hadn't listened to the November 21, 2006 episode since it originally aired and I'm realizing some of my all-time favorite bits derived from that one show:

  • Talk of food and politics with Spike
  • Jon from Maplewood's ColdPlay spoof
  • Billy Crystal's Jazzman routine at Comic Relief
  • The creation of Tom's "Dutch" character
  • Tom zinging the "Kurosawa" guy
  • Dealing with racist relatives at Thanksgiving
  • Build-a-Movie game

Tom was in The Zone that night.

Goodness gracious, cutout, I am honored to be on that list.  Thanks!

My favorite episodes were not necessarily the ones where I laughed the most, but I thought they were the most creative:

-The Patriot Zone
-The episode where he imitated all radio formats (including the "worst first" therapist)
-When Tom went into a "Shop for a coffin guy" fugue state for like a half-hour
-The night he first used the FOT sound effects board
-The Order of Everything

That one is my choice too.

this is one of my favorites!

December 5, 2006: How Do You Want It? Morning Zoo Pace Or Best Show Pace? Philly Boy Roy Is Waiting, Best Of The Worst/Worst Of The Best, Pete And Some Other Fun Stuff.

January 31, 2006: Tom Is Mean To Spike. Marky Ramone Talks About His New Romance Novel And Reveals His Big Surprise! Some Jerk Threatens To Melt Tom. Tom Is Accused Of Being On The Take (Which He Is Not!)

all five of the shows that month where great, maybe one of his best streaks...

other of note, are when he played dark side of the moon in its entirety, that was great...  plus the PBR call when he tried to convince Tom that The Sopranos took place in Philly.

oh Tom thank you for all the smiles!

I've love to know dates for those episodes, if you've got 'em. I'm putting together my own personal "Best Of" list. Might be nice to eventually roll it into a "Best Of..." mega-mixx.

It is impossible to pick a favorite. One, because they are often funnier the second time around, and two, because I get all nostalgic for the first time I heard it. So, put on any good show and I will call it a favorite, because they all are favorites, really. Yay! So glad to be alive during this era!

hands down

June 5, 2007: The Gorch Finally Reaches The WFMU Studios To Murder Tom! Philly Boy Roy Stops By And Takes Control Of The Station, Interviewing Ben Gibbard In The Process. Plus Another Interview With Ken Rogers. Hall Of Fame, People!

Tom and Jon at their best for nearly the entire 3 hours. this is what its all about, i don't think i've ever laughed as a hard at the best show as i did at this one.

it's also got my favorite exchange between Tom and a character:

Philly Boy Roy: who don't love slap bass?

Tom: Yeah, who don't.

One I just heard a couple of days ago, Roy with Consolidated Cardboard leaving messages for his friend Mark but keeps misdialing into the show, ends up telling Tom "he's murdered".  Pretty darn funny.  But then again there are plenty of amazing shows!  Last week's PBR was killer - ose.

I wish I kept track of all the times I burst out laughing in public while wearing my headphones.  The Best Show is good at making me look deranged.

This is like asking me to gaze into a swimming pool of sparkly, perfect diamonds and choose which one is the shiniest.

I can't pick one.
