I miss GOMP. I want GOMP to return. Who's with me!
-
I think things are good the way they are. I like a two syllable dump.
-
Bring back "you got flushed!" <flushing sound>
-
I'm rooting for the return of "You're a ghost!"
-
I think a mix would be nice.
I was one of the first people heaved ho, so I kinda have an affinity for it.
-
What the hell? You can't petition the kid. The kid does what he wants, and YOU LOVE IT.
-Ajax
-
But can you petition the lord with prayer?

Correct. HEAVE HO with the traditionalists ... change is good.
But one thing that kind of tickles me ... if you listen to the show over the over the last month or so, there's been a couple times when Tom starts on a GOMP, and then catches himself. So it sounds something like "Get off m ... heave ho!"
-
Seriously though, how about a committee/petition to bring back the Rockford Files theme as the bed music?
-
Why do we need to petition anything? Change is good. If you miss GOMP or whatever, the archive is full of them. I like that the show moves forward, almost always for the better, and doesn't get stale by using the same tried and true stuff all the time. I don't want to second guess Tom's plans or whatnot for his show.

want i really want back is the short lived "you're a ghost!"
then ghost sound effect

"You're a ghost" is too much of a gem to be used for every dumped call. The satisfaction of hearing the rarely used "You're a ghost!" is equal to sitting around watching VH1 and seeing the video for "Cry" by Godley and Creme.

You're welcome!

"Get off m ... heave ho!"
my dream is to get one of those.

As featured on "Beavis and Butt-Head."

It is that time of year...

I truly do miss the GOMP. Maybe it was the severity of the scolding and all out chill that it sent down the spines of mutants. While "heave ho" does have its place, I find it to be more for misdemeanor offenses. Racists creeps = GOMP. Sexist creeps = GOMP.
-
"Get off m ... heave ho!"
"i dont say that anymore"
-
correct me if im wrong. did Tom ever use the phrase "Eat Dial-tone"
i think he may have experimented with it for a while.
-
At first I was sad that we lost the GOMPs, but now I love the Heave Ho's... Somehow Tom just sounds more disgusted when he's doing it. Like he's heaving that bad call back into the universe with disdain. Wiping his hands of that caller. Good stuff.
I think if I got the Heave Ho I might still have to say "I got GOMPed" because that's just so much fun to say :)
-
I'm a fan of "heave-ho." I picture Tom in a tricorner hat tossing callers overboard on an 18th-century British First Rate. Then the caller splashes, phone in hand, into the shark-infested waters.

I'm picturing a hand clenching the phone receiver being the only thing sticking out of the water as the caller sinks.
-
i imagine, more or less, Tom pushing them overboard...nonchalant. especially when he sounds disgusted/annoyed.

Maybe more like a hip check off the deck of a ferry, then?

Bring back "you got flushed!" <flushing sound>
I remember listening to the late Pete Franklin on the radio with my dad when I was a kid. My dad wouldn't agree with a single thing Pete said, but the flush thing had him cracking up, which doesn't happen very often.
I also noticed that Tom is referenced on Bob Grant's Wikipedia entry, along with Mark Levin.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Grant_(radio) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Grant_(radio)) Obviously, I have a little too much time on my hands these days.
-
It's more like if he pushed a button and a trap door opened, heaving the caller into the icy waters below. Or into a dungeon... with Spike.
-
i miss gomps too. however, i also know enough to know that tom has a master plan, and to question his judgement about what's best for the best show is never a good idea. i would love to hear even just a couple gomps here and there, but i know that tom is doing what needs to be done for the show. heave ho is pretty great too, it's just that gomp is like a part of the family. haha.

I think Bob Grant is the maniac who accused Obama of having personalized flags made to accompany a speech in Toledo, Ohio, further claiming this as proof that Obama is a dictator-in-training.

Note the "O" for "Obama" on the flag.
(It's the state flag of Ohio)
-
That's the least of Bob Grant's demagogic outbursts.

THERE WILL BE GOMPS!
I often wonder if Tom stopped using GOMPs because of me. Then I realized, I'm not that important.

I like the way you think, Tito.

Didn't it take a while for the various types of GOMPs to take form? So far there hasn't been a caller who has both surprised and angered Tom, which is when you'd get great GOMPs. At this point its been mostly the I'm done with you variety or not even going to go down this road style HHs. Those usually weren't superb as GOMP either.
