So, the Cylons and Humans actually made it to earth, but apparently a post-apocalyptic one. What's gonna happen in the new season?
-
I hope no more bad covers of Jimi Hendrix songs sung a la Magnolia style.
Also let's put an end to the stupid catty Melrose Place style BS.
There are only 40000 humans left in the whole universe.
Do you really care about who your ex has been flirting with??????
lame.
-
I'm working on the new Final season BSG posters at work. They're pretty hot, if I do say so myself.
I've made noise about that Jimi Hendrix thing.

I think arguably that if there were only 40 000 humans left, then you'd care a whole lot more about your ex and their flirtations. The biological imperative might make jealousy a much more powerful force!
But basically, I agree with you. I want apocalyptic sci-fi, not a soap opera. I have high hopes for the final episodes, but low expectations.

I haven't watched any of this season, but talk about the most uneven show in the history of TV. It goes from Wire-quality good to eyes-tearing-up-from-embarrassment bad and back again, sometimes within the same episode.
-
I thought the part of season 4 that's been aired so far was pretty good, but yeah, of course there were a couple of clunkers in it. I particularly hated the episode that featured that Irish lawyer. Holy hell, any episode with that guy is to be avoided.
-
Oh yeah, what the fuck is that guy all about? What's next, everyone singing the same song like that Aimee Mann bit in Magnolia?
-
I hated that lawyer, but grew to like him. I would have liked him for real if he didn't have those god-damned sunglasses on in court. I started out watching this for work and became addicted really fast. But seriously, this show could have been trimmed down from 4 seasons to three.
Except for the "Razor" special, where they broought back the old Cylons! Ha ha! That should have been an hour longer.
-
This one's for Wes:
I hated that lawyer, but grew to like him. I would have liked him for real if he didn't have those god-damned sunglasses sweatpants on in court.
Fixed!

Fixed! Double fixed!

I'd like to see some (other) nerd edit this series down (Phantom menace style w/o Jar Jar) so that it just contains the core story elements and see how it holds up. Pretty well, I'd imagine.
That boxing episode almost made me stuff my eyeballs into my ear holes, that would've been less painful.

Ugh, yeah, I watched that like 2 weeks ago and I'd already blocked it out. Until just now.

The boxing episode almost made me consider watching Heroes instead.
-
Did anyone go for the gusto and watch the extended DVD boxing episode? Because the regular one wasn't exhausting enough.
-
Oh god that boxing episode.. Somehow I knew Starbuck would start kickboxing. She seems like a 90's douche.

Well, she wore that Soul Asylum t-shirt through the entire first season. I thought it was obvious.
-
Did anyone see the new episode? I thought it was pretty good overall. Some genuinely unsettling moments, and a growing sense of doom. I don't see a happy ending coming up for this one.
-
What?!
-
That episode (and the show in general) is like a giant bowl filled with sadness, with a thick topping of depressing.
I swear, every one of the million convoluted plotlines this show has constantly takes turns for the worse. It makes the show perpetually tense and exhausting. I'm not sure if that's good writing or really contrived/manipulative writing.
-
I think it has, at times, good, bad & manipulative writing. Don't make me choose just one. In any case, I kinda revel in the non-stop bad vibes.
-
I think it makes the show boring. Mind you, I've watched every episode.
I really liked the suicide, by the way. Nicely done. Those Adamas sure are thick, though, not being able to figure out why she did it.
-
Yeah, I think I'd get bored too, if the episodes were released at a normal pace. I can take 10 episodes of non-stop melodramatic doom per year, though.
edit: that being said, I am pleased that they're finally wrapping this show up.
-

I think that's a pretty good summation about my feelings toward BSG. Sometimes I'll be be totally absorbed in the show. Other times I'll be rolling my eyes in embarrassment or just plain bored.
I had the final three episodes from the first half of this season DVR'd and unwatched because at some point I think I said to myself "I just devote an hour a week to this nonsense anymore." I finally watched them last week in preparation for the premiere. Now that I'm all caught up I'm still not entirely sure why I'm watching. I just know that a) they're not going to answer all the questions they've raised or b) they're going to be answered by some super lame deus ex machina.
That being said I'm tremendously looking forward to tonight's episode of "Lost," so perhaps I'm in no position to judge. Does anyone else gets the sinking feeling that Ben telling Jack they have to take "Jeremy Bentham" with them will make this entire season some kind of weird riff on "Weekend at Bernie's?"

If you insist on insulting my special lady friend, we're fightin'.

You wanna frak her? ;)
If I remember correctly, she and that basketball player she married from Caprica get matching tribal tattoo's.
90's douche!

This clip has a major spoiler, but if you've already seen the first episode of this run, is pretty funny:

oh man, i couldn't stop laughing for a minute
so awful
-
wow. hilarious/horrible on multiple levels
-
I really like Battlestar Galactica but I wish it would decide if it wants to be the West Wing or if it wants to be Lost.
-
another mutiny
how many is it now?

think they have to do one every 3 episodes contractually.
something to do with the writer's strike.

For whatever reason I thought this was going to be one of these (http://curbthis.tumblr.com/).

You know what I love? I love that they have the technology to fly through space at the speed of light in an anti-gravity atmosphere, but they can only record Gaius Balthar's ravings on reel-to-reel tape. You'd think they'd have digital technology, no??

the Galactica is retro fitted with old tech to prevent Cylon's from taking it over or whatever right? and Baltar's harem is on the Galactica.
what I want to know is why they hate corners so much.

I can answer that.
Ron was asked early in the production to cut corners on sets and props. Being the prankish imp's that they are, they went around literally cutting the corners off of everything. They made it part of their culture that Octogon's rule over squares.

Are you being serios? Either way, that's awesome. I'm only just finishing disc 1 of season two and I have to ask you vets something. Does it get better? I really liked season 1, but Season 2 so far is just soooo stupid, especially the episode where the journalist does her piece on the battlestar.
I'm looking forward to finding out what else Starbuck is the best at: So far, we've got cards, flying (including cylon vessels), fighting, quoting scripture, quoting poetry, smoking cigars, cylon wrestling. I'm sure there are others, but my absolute favorite is how she gives the pro a run for his money at pyramid ball.

As per Grote's assessment above, it does get better. Then it gets worse again. Back and forth. Back and forth. I think that the key is not to binge on it. And generally the beginnings and the ends of the seasons have the best stuff. I thought the first few episodes of season 3 were particularly good.
-
The current season started off as a real dog, if you ask me. And then it got really good as it approached the mid-season finale or whatever that was. And I actually liked that webisode series, even though I hate the word "webisode" and the concept in general. I didn't think it was necessary to watch, but you know what? Having watched it, and the most recent episodes, it's kind helpful to understand why Gaeta is doing what he's doing.
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!
I'm super invested in Olmos' character, Admiral Adama, for whatever reason. So I kind of want to amputate Gaeta's other leg for being such a troublemaker.
-
i didn't watch the webisodes
how does it show his motivation?
-
A toaster betrayed him and mindfraked him.
-
Bah, he's just thrilled to have a chance to make his own betrayal of his species seem less dastardly.
-

There's a scene at a party where a drunken Gaaeta takes off his *Spoiler Alert* broken watch, holds it above his head and screams "You're all gonna pay for this!"
-
I want to punch Gaeta in his slimeball throat.
-
return to form
good ep
-
I'm skimming this thread obviously so as not to spoil, but I just finished 2.0 and moving to 2.5 and the cliffhanger episode was grrrrreat.
I'll shut up now since i'm like a little kid walking into....this isn't my element is what i'm trying to say.
-
Prepare for a pretty big dip in quality.
-
I just started season 4 via netflix. What the hell is this Razor crap? I still haven't read this thread on account of I don't wanna ruin nothin'.

Razor's a tv movie about the Pegasus.
it's pretty cool
-
Watch RAZOR between season's 2 & 3. It fills in a back story of the Pegasus Battlestar. It's pretty good.
-
too late. i'm starting season 4 right now. weird how they packaged that as disc 1 of season four. dare I say, stupid. I'm just coming off that season 3 cliffhanger and they throw this at me?
funny thing about some cliffhangers with this show. I never believe them when they kill someone off. It's about as bad as Days of Our Lives in that regard.
