That's right. Just look for 'Scharpling'.
This might end sooner than later, so get on board now.
And the classic THE BEST SHOW ON WFMU Twitter will continue!!! So keep them both!
Thanks!
Tom.
-
I will sign up for this thing now.
-
OK. 'Degrell'.
-
I think the typical twitter usage involves a mild interest followed by several months of no activity at all followed by (sometimes) a more committed return and acceptance of twitter Kool-Aid. At any rate, have fun and let us know how it goes. Also, steer clear of that scobleizer dude.
-
I am there as 'toothychum'
-
Done.
-
Wait, now I'm confused. How can I find/add someone like Mr. toothychum? Twitter only asks me for my email contacts. Can't you search for a username?
EDIT: Nevermind, found it. (search.twitter.com)

Who's maintaining the TBSOWFMU twitter?

Thanks martin. I ran into the same problem.

My hunch is that Tom just wants to see what Peter Sagal is up to.

I remember when that kid first called tom and asked whether he liked/used twitter.

Also, the Big Shakespeare's tweets are 100% top shelf.

What's the over/under on when the burnout will set in?

I nominated Tom for an #entertainment award. Also I joined the effort to nominate a dead dog in the business category in the hope that he beats Guy Kawasaki.

Already setting in for me. I am still not seeing how this provides anything above and beyond Facebook updates. Unless you are a Netanyahu stalker and want to know what he is doing *right now* - and assuming he would not invite you to be a Facebook friend - what is the bloody point?
-
I suppose that's they key - people can follow you but you don't have to follow them (or be "friends" with them). I'm not sure how long I'll keep it up - it certainly doesn't replace FB in any way - but for now it's kinda fun.
-
i barely manage the facebook updates, and its mostly because theres nothing i imagine people want to know at all hours about me:
...is eating a delicious veggie burrito.
...is finishing up first drafts.
...loves this _____ album.
...is tired.
...is bored at work.
...wants to see ________.
...has things to tweeze but refuses to tweeze them.
...can be followed on facebook: iambaronvontito

Twitter lets you check on people without friending them, like Martin said. But I see it more as a way for wiseguys to broadcast one-liners than as an actual means for keeping track of what people are up to, which no one cares about.

My Twitter novel has begun!
Check it out. It's called FUEL DUMP.
twitter.com/scharpling
Yes!
Tom.
-
Tom had better get working on getting that book deal frenzy started. The world's first Twitter novel, written by someone who actually has talent?! There's going to be a bidding war, I tell you. Hopefully Twitter doesn't have some sort of fine print that says anything you send through their website is their property.
-
If the 'Stuff White People Like' guy can get a book deal, anything is possible. This may be what pushes Tom over the top to super-stardom and obscene riches.
-
Exactly! This can be Tom's ladder to the famous helicopter! Just imagine if the "Stuff White People Like" guy had talent, but Tom starts out with the gimmicky premise and then wows them with the real deal.
-
FUEL DUMP is great so far (Chapter 1.)
Turn on the mobile updates, and you can follow along live. As silly as it sounds, its a lot of fun.
-
Anybody not following this is going to wish very much that they had!
-
I hadn't logged into Twitter for six months but dammit if Fuel Dump isn't a page turner!
-
Mares Eat Oats

Tom's worried it (Fuel Dump) is flopping .
I don't think so.
However, I thought we'd get a sentence a day - he may be giving us more than we need or can handle.
-
One sentence a day?! One sentence AT A TIME!
I don't want to mess up anybody's tweeting. I will figure out a way to distribute it at a more digestible pace if it's throwing anybody.
But one sentence a day? We're gonna be doing this for a ten years!
Tom.
-
stretch it out! twitter needs a proust.
-
Catching up Tom's novel novel today. A captivating read.

-
But one sentence a day? We're gonna be doing this for a ten years!
And imagine the comments jerks would leave poor Tom when the sentence of the day was "Whatever." Daily anticipation would lead to weird overanalyzation of every sentence, rather than allowing each one to be what it needs to be.
(I'm defending a decision that is not in jeopardy of changing in any way.)
-
I second Ramsbot.
If the computer you built out of milk cartons stuffed with Brillo pads is having a hard time with the influx of too many sentences, you may need to upgrade to something a little hardier.

I give up. I like that I can make Twitter update Facebook and thus "use" Facebook without having to go onto it. I give up on Facebook too. (Give up resisting.)
-

the "Stuff White People Like" guy does have talent. He's a pretty hilarious writer.
-
Twitter spammers - how do you deal with them? Just block them? I've been getting several "followers" lately with fishy profiles.
-
Tor Hershman's Twitter is something special.
Moi has a Twitter???
I don't even (or oddly) know what Twitter is.
Stay on groovin' safari,

On second thought...

Mike's intervention updates are making Twitter entirely worth it.
"I gotta get out of this rigmarole before I have a heart attack!"
-
I certainly don't blame tom. As Pollard said "If you don't want it don't buy it"
-
I'm addicted to Twitter.
-
Is anyone collecting Fuel Dump somewhere? I'm too lazy for Twitting.
-
It'd probably be easy to write a script that grabbed everything with the #fueldump hashtag, parsed it and published it into one long narrative.

Right, but what about that whole 'started' vs. 'stared' opening line?

Yes!! That does it. I couldn't find the sentence between the first and what is the third - I thought more was missing. Thanks!

I like being able to check twitter whenever I'm at a computer and see what friends and favorites are doing. But is anyone else finding that people are becoming more boring to hang out with because they're always on twitter?
By that I mean, they're on twitter on their phone while you're sitting there trying to enjoy a meal or a movie with them. Disconnect for a little while, sheesh!
-
Holey Moley. I'm listening to the May 15, 2007 show and some kid is talking to Tom about Twitter. Tom threatens to give the kid a spanking if he finds out that Twitter.com is a porn site.
-
May 2007? He was probably the only one who had an account.
-
That Salon article about twitter books was commented on by Sweden's biggest newspaper DN today. Tom gets a mention!
