I couldn't f&%$ing believe this when I read it. NBC wants to put Leno on EVERY NIGHT at 10 PM. Will no one rid us of this man?

I saw that. They should have let him take the slippers and tapioca crowd over to ABC.
-
It made me cry out loud, "Oh God no!"
-
Did he have to hide in a closet this time too?

I haven't watched Leno in a long time. Does he still do 20-minute monologues? I remember his fucking monologues used to take forever. Just a miserable death march of a monologue every single night.
Conan's monologues are also terrible, but at least they're mercifully short. I think Conan's smart enough to know that the monologue is the weak point of his show ... I don't know why he bothers with it, really. Does he really have to be a slave to the traditional format?

Honestly, and without ER, it'll put the nail in NBC pretending they have a 10pm slot at all. So long 50 Law & Order reruns.
Of course if (when) it flops, then Fox and ABC won't want anything to do with Jay either, so it's pretty much a win/win/win scenario as far as I am concerned.
-
The point is that they are giving up on the 10PM slot. The move is only partially about keeping Leno on board, it's also about a drastic measure to cut costs across the network.
-
I know it's different across the country on when Leno actually airs, but here it's 10pm news and then Leno. So, does this mean it will be news, Leno and then Conan at 11:30 just like it is now? If so, that it is lame and if I were Conan I'd be talking to ABC and Fox.
Edit: Wait, that would mean it would be on before the news... right? Conan still should be upset seeing that people might turn off the TV after the news since they already watched an hour talk show.

The thread title says it all.

NBC is clearly taking a page from Shout! with their new 3-hour talk show nights. 180 with Hulk Hogan, hello?

Yeah, it would air at 9 p.m. Central. I liked Will Leitch's headline: "That Sound You Hear? Conan O'Brien Punching Himself In The Face."

I'm getting pretty tired of network television and complaining about how much money it costs them to keep original content on the air. Look at NBC and all their huge ensemble cast shows that are extremely mediocre: Heroes, ER, every Law & Order (admittedly I don't really watch these so I don't know if they are any good but I know the casts are pretty large on every show). They should cut down the shows that suck in the ratings and suck in quality so we, the viewers don't have to suffer through Leno at 10 PM every night 46 weeks a year (oh my god, typing that out gave me the chills).
I guess I'm just venting because of how annoying it is that legitimately good shows are getting canned left and right for less expensive (and terrible) alternatives.
-
for the most part, i stay away from network television across the board. not to mention, what little i do watch (one or two episodes of something), i record it on DVR and fast forward through everything i hate (commercials, network promos, news blurbs, etc.) and spend the rest of my time watching movie after movie.
besides, it's 2008, everything is on dvd now- even better.

I dug Mr. Leno when he'd guest on the old (Well, different network) Letterman show.
Stay on groovin' safari,

HEY! WAIT A SEC.....that's it!
The Double L Show starring David J. Lenoman

Leno pisses me off more often than he makes me laugh. NBC should be thankful for the opportunity to be RID of this man. The man's a smarmy, grinning turd.
Anyone could have done halfway well with Carson's old spot. It was a privelege he squandered every single night.
-
Is Conan already locked up or can he walk away from this garbage?

I give Leno points for recognizing that this has everything to do with NBC being in the toilet, and making jokes about it in the face of Ben Silverman's bullshit explanation of the move.

spoiler alert: the roots crew are involved.

"What Ben's saying is we barely have six hours of programming," Leno cracked.
This is the thing though. I don't read that as earnest, I read it as smug as hell.
If NBC is that lean on programming and that concerned about their comedy brand, there are dozens of folks I'm sure who'd be more than happy to take a stab at ushering in a new era over at that network.
More Leno = America snoozes off an hour earlier!

im with angstrom on this. if NBC was truly concerned about keeping their head above water, they would turn to the answer for the everything: the internet.
there are plenty of starving people out there who need a job.

So, is Conan still moving to LA?

Yes.

Honestly, I would walk out on the deal. He has enough money to never work again and be comfortable, and he has the talent to ensure that whatever his next project was would be a success. No one would blame him.
-
I wouldn't want Conan to walk away from it (personally). I was looking forward to growing into middle age with him as my generation's Tonight Show dude. Leno needs to get lost and NBC needs to grow a new idea.
-
I'm sure any other network would trip over themselves for him.
And if in the power-vacuum, Jimmy Fallon gets promoted beyond his competency and gets the boot, then all the better.

Haha, wouldn't that be something. "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon"
Seriously though, I wouldn't want to move to LA if you're not even getting the damn studio! Conan should do his show from Seattle instead ~ umm, since it's where his wife is from. Yeah, that's a good reason.
