Title: FOT Barter System...
Post by: Andy on January 12, 2009, 10:09:41 PM
this one will either be awesome or sink like a stone.

Let's trade.

what I have to offer:   I can offer up my cross stitching skills for trade.  My skills are not the greatest, but I'm very neat with it and I'm willing to incorporate crude subject matter.

what I like: baked goods, my name used for a character in a play/sketch/television show (not matter how small the part), cartoons/illustrations

Andy...i can do this!

i'll trade you a crude cross stitching of your choice for baked goods (also of your choice) and a part in my short stories (if you want?...im no JG).

Swiss, same goes for you in exchange for a crocheted scarf.

as for my services, open to all FOT: i write short stories and will write any story, essay, etc. you would like with any plot line, characters, on and on.  you will also get a copy (this goes for Swiss and Andy as well).  i can bake, i have lots of photos i would like to give to people (no money- you can see them in the Pictures You Took thread), and an Odetta folk record if someone wants me to throw it in.

I can bake.  What would you like, Andy, in exchange for a "People are stupid, and there is no hope" cross stitch?

I'll put your name in something for free.  First and last?

I don't think anyone's going to make it to the reading at EST this Friday (no problem, really, I actually hate staged readings but they're sort of a necessary evil), so I'll just tell everyone: act two of the play is a made-up reality show, and I made a fake opening title sequence where we see all the old contestants who got kicked off the show (we come in late in the season, like episode 14).  They're all named after FOT and use their catchphrases.

I will bake you some fucking awesome cookies if you'll cross-stitch me something with a cat on it and the word "JERK" underneath it. (Or from-scratch brownies if you like them too)

Other than baking I have very little to offer. Unless you like stickers. I'm always willing to share some of my stickers.

PS it should be stated, since this is a barter system and not a polite convention, i dont mind if anyone declines my offer(s).

I find your skill set intriguing, especially since I need a new bureau drawer.  If only I lived closer to Boston.  I have no moustache combs or celluloid, but French lessons I could manage (I'm far too diffident to propose my companionship as a tradable commodity).

Not sure if this qualifies for an actual FOT barter or if it should go in the extracurriculars thread, but...

I've been a solo musician/performer for a few years now and I'd really like to collaborate with a similarly minded person. Where better to look than the FOT? Send me a message if you're interested. I live in the Hudson County/Jersey City area.

I can give out a few domain names and teach people how to kick an Australian Football (like Sav Rocca of nem Philly Eagles) if someone can help me find a place to live in NYC or surrounding areas in a couple of weeks.  Not really a fair trade I know.

I also bake honey buns!!

A friend of mine did this very thing with her own needlework and has sold a few... and she has given an Awesome Show, Great Job themed cross stitch to Tim and Eric (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wREwO2xqi8s/SBXp3OK9jAI/AAAAAAAAAGE/PcwSmJd-OW0/s1600-h/IMG_2083.JPG) themselves.

As for my handiwork, I got a deluxe homebrew kit for Christmas, and have been brewing up a storm of malty/hoppy ales to fit my beer snob taste for the last month.  All of my beers are in different stages of fermentation, but once they're bottled and ready to go, I'd be willing to barter a couple bottles with fellow FOTs.

Money and not cookies, because I have a weird thing about eating unpackaged food I got in the mail from a stranger.

Wimp.

RJ, what about cookies paid with money?

I don't think cookies would want to be paid in cookies either, it's like cookie cannibalism. Or slavery. Or prostitution. One of those. I think paying cookies with money is your best bet, if cookies begin demanding payment. Your other best bet is to eat them before they can revolt.

Oh, I forgot:  fascist, too.

Why don't you unfreeze some of that sad thanksgiving soup and cry about it. You know you saved some! 3<

I bet if I'd overnighted some sad turkey soup to you when you were hacking and dripping over Thanksgiving you would have eaten it.

Although, come to think of it, I'd be a little leery of soup from a stranger.  Cookies, less so (obviously--Erika gave me some for Christmas, and I'm still kicking).

Stranger Soup has a nice ring to it though.

So are we really doing this? For barter I can:

• Make drawerings, mostly comicy & illustration stuff, but I've done some logo work as well. People tell me I am pretty good at these things.
• Make scrumptious treats as well. My Mint Brownies from scratch are to die for - DIE!
• Make a prototype toy of you (or anyone you want, really) - I have skills in sculpting and painting. This is not a joke.
• Shoulder to cry on - I am an exceptional listener and can offer good advice about any manner of subject.
• Roughing people up - Someone giving you a hard time? I worked corporate security for a few years, so I know how to take out the trash. Travel and food expenses not included in barter.
• Prom date*. I clean up pretty nice, and even though I'm old (early 30's) and that's kinda creepy, it's better than asking your cousin to go with you, yeah? *Or any social event - gender not important.
• Web design. I am good at these things as well.
• FOT Hostel. Coming to Seattle for a convention, concert, vacation? I have an extra room downstairs you can crash in. Continental breakfast included.

What I need:

I need someone to tutor me in the ways of a program like Blender, Maya, Max, any 3D app really where I can build some characters and buildings quickly and rotate/get lots of angles from them. I have a few upcoming projects that would make my life so much easier to have 3D versions to draw from instead of having to redraw the same thing over and over again from scratch. I've been messing with Blender the last week, and I just cannot get a handle on the interface at all. I'm pretty adept at Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator and such, so I figure it won't take much for me get my head around this. But reading manuals and poorly written tutorials online is going to take forever for me to get it, and I want to to be off and running on this in the next 8-12 weeks if possible. Halp!!

I also like yummy treats too. But I mostly need the other thing now.

Okay, folks - brass tacks time. I need one of you to knit or crotchet me a coogi sweater. Black, red, blue, yellow, the rest... i want to be a rainbow of a man.  An extra-small, long-sleeved rainbow of a man.

Cigar box guitars seem to be the thing these days, so in exchange for this sweater, i will make you a cigar box guitar. With as many strings as you want, up to 12. Electric, if need be.  I know, a sweater is a lot to knit, but i assure you, this will be a proper guitar, suitable for years of enjoyment.

I reserve the right to make a facsimile box if a suitable one can't be found at the third junk shop i try.

I find your skill set intriguing, especially since I need a new bureau drawer.  If only I lived closer to Boston.  I have no moustache combs or celluloid, but French lessons I could manage (I'm far too diffident to propose my companionship as a tradable commodity).

I just found a girl for the french, but please let me know if you come across any nice moustache combs.

Here are the things I can do: Crochet (coffee cozies, hats, scarves, you name it.) Cross Stitch. Embroidery. Sewing with a machine. Making jewelery. And transcribing audio, data entry, internet research and other assistant duties.

Also my boyfriend makes great mix tapes, if anybody is interested.

Send me a PM with what you want to trade. :)

I can make/sew a flag with the Newbridge town motto on it, if anyone's interested! It would be a fun project for me.

Also, I can do pottery (still in the middlin' stages, but I can make a mean bowl! :) ), I can doodle just about anything, and seriously draw or paint fairly well. If anyone has any requests.

I like anything, pretty much. Baked goods, sewn stuff, whatever you have to offer!

Andy, it arrived and it's beautiful (such a fancy frame, too)!  I love it.  I don't know how I'll be able to come up with baked goods that compare.  Thank you so much!

I can take photos that might be cool based on any theme or subject you'd like. Also, I can write you stories or draw you silly little pictures. Baked goods are hard to send from here to the States via the post, but if you are here or near here I can make you delicious brownies or cookies or cupcakes. Also, I can host a high-quality dinner party.

Plus: if you are in a band, i can totally play tambourine for/with you guys anytime you are in Toronto and in need of a backup tambourineist.

What I'd like: anything cool.

i am also making mix tapes.  cassettes, people.

That's basically my talent, themed mix tapes (or CDs).  Genre, subject matter, etc.  Failed major label bands of the 90's a specialty.  My latest project is making a series of linked chains using the first and last word of each song title.

ive done that project and it was harder than i thought.  the songs didnt transition well.  of course, i was younger then, as was my music collection, and the project was a novelty that never came to fruition.  i havent thought it until you brought it up.

I just finished a series of 11 mixes based off the same seed song.  Like you mentioned, it's difficult to manage the segues and build something that works together but the challenge helps unearth songs that probably would never get consideration otherwise.

Oh, Dave, I liked your mix CDs.

In 2005, I made a mix of songs starting with the word "The," whose titles, when read in order, formed a spy thriller.  The mix was not great (don't judge!) but the story is pretty cool.

The Tourist (Radiohead)
The Partisan (Leonard Cohen)
The Arrangement (Joni Mitchell)
The Waitress (Tori Amos)
The Kiss (The Cure)
The Panties (Mos Def)
The Professional (Sleater-Kinney)
The Letter (PJ Harvey)
The Truth (Steve Earle)
The Extremists (Frausdots)
The Prisoner (The Clash)
The Wall (Johnny Cash)
The Fanatic (Felony)
The Hook (Stephen Malkmus)
The Prey (Dead Kennedys)
The Chase (RZA)
The Ledge (The Replacements)
The Gash (The Flaming Lips)
The Gravedigger (SNFU)
The End (The Beatles)

I brought my cross stitch to the bar this afternoon to show to a friend of mine.  She loved it.  Other responses were split pretty evenly between those who responded, "Oh [grudging laugh] I guess that's true, but don't you think it's awfully negative?" and those who just laughed and said, "Yup."
