some things about star wars are cool like lightsabers and guns that shoot lasers.
other things are really gay like ewoks and princess laya.
i really don't know if i like star wars or if it is gay.
-
Certainly, it is terribly gay to have a female in a movie otherwise mostly populated by men.
-
Princess Leia is easily the least "gay" element of Star Wars. A little incestuous, sure, but not gay.
Lightsabers and shooting guns on the other hand... pretty gay bro. ;)

Is this what has become of us?
This post marks a new low in the annals of this site. I can barely stomach the banality and the po-faced seriousness that characterizes most of the forum these days, but I'd take an eternity of that over this pitiable attempt at humor. Seriously, Raadman should stick to the right-wing metalhead schtick that had us rolling in the aisles for eight laughter-filled years and leave the gay Star Wars jokes to the comparative genius of Kevin Smith.
-
But can Raad-man really be considered "one of us"?
(One of us! One of us! Gooble gobble, gooble gobble! One of us! One of us!)
-

Are you developmentally disabled?
Holy crap.

I was going through the Best Show archives and this dude was being clowned on more than five years ago by young Petey. This is old-school mutantry.
-
I don't know if this is to be taken seriously. I don't think so.
The "gay" thing seems consistent with what Jason has characterized as right-wind metalhead schtick. It doesn't make me laugh.
Unfortunately, I still react to posts like this, and I would hope that others would find it at least somewhat problematic. Usually, no one seems to particularly give a shit.
Try replacing the word "gay" in the above sentence with "black" or "negroid" or "Jewish," and see how it reads. Or try an even more inflammatory word with a similar meaning.
Good day.
-
yeah man kevin smith rules. i love all of his movies too. he is a genius.
star wars is not gay, i guess. it's actually pretty cool. maybe it's just because the new star wars movies sucked so bad it makes me think the old ones were gay too. i guess it's just gay to like star wars these days. it sucks how that happens.

is star wars Jewish?

i don't know man... still seems pretty funny to me. i guess i'm a bad person.

Pretty much agreed with Tom's sentiments on this matter. We're not children. Enough is enough. Who cares about Star Wars anymore?

The two grown men I ran into in the graphic novel section at Borders last night is who, heavy in discussion about what happened to the Stormtroopers after Return of the Jedi. Were they tried for war crimes? Were they just out of work? Will wiki have the answers??
Way to go, comic nerds.

Pooh.
-
If being a "grown up" means no talking about comics or Star Wars or anything to do with pop culture because the guy with the record player likes to judge, count me out. I think the Snobs of Tom posters are the more annoying part of the community than the moron trying to get a rise out of people.

What does this freak mean by "po-faced"?

Let me clarify...I would never tell anyone to grow up, but there is plenty of nerd-dom beyond star wars which has been done to death.

Star Wars is bi-curious.

Yes--the question Raad_Man should really be asking here is: "Is Infinite Jest gay?"

Are you stating that Star Wars has been done to death (true) or that the nerd-dom beyond it has also been done to death (also true)?

HA! That's what I thought of, too! Course, I was a busboy at a Po Folks in St. Louis when I was a teen. My mom, who has never been into the whole brevity thing, always referred to it as "Poor Folks".

Yeah, I guess you're right, and it's still hilarious and perfectly ok to either malign gay people or characterize anything that you think is hokey or cheesy as "gay."
I get that you're doing a "character," raadman. The thing is, that character is someone straight out of my junior high school... 25 years ago. And not funny.
-
i guess we have found the answer... no, it is not uncool. i have a lot of good memories of those movies and my mom even keeps a box of my childhood star wars toys because they remind her of when i was a kid. i guess that is all that's really important. some of the best bands ever aren't as good as they were way back when, but that shouldn't make it any less cool to like the old stuff. if anything it only makes me value the old stuff even more.
-
I think Star Wars has a good chance of being good again once Lucas finally leaves this mortal coil, it's his hands that screw it all up. I don't know if anyone ever played the game Knights Of The Old Republic, that was a great Star Wars story based on the idea of the Jedi as samurai that took place 4000 years before the films. It's still just science fiction, and can be really good, it's just that the talented people who designed and built the world have all been brushed aside by Lucas' ego and control. And no, I don't own a stormtrooper costume.

Schtick or not, at least one bit of truth (http://www.guesswhosthejew.com/Carrie_Fisher.html) came out of this thread.

yeah, no shit man. to me, the coolest star wars movie was the second one -- which was the one george lucas has the least hand in. he didn't direct it and he didn't write it. maybe he is just better as a producer than as an actual movie maker.
in a lot of ways he reminds me of axl. both there new shit sucks way more than the old shit. and the best stuff either of them did was when they had other people (different writers and directors / slash & izzy) doing it for them . the more control they got, the worse the results.

And it's bi-curious.

I found out today that something I'm doing for work now needs to involve Darth Vader. Very odd after posting on this thread.

She needs those memories of you as a kid, because you're so detestable as an adult.

i felt that one.

I'm so glad that the Obama era of good feeling still allows for this kind of stuff.
