It's hard to vomit with a lump in your throat.

I turned it on sometime during Obama's speech. And then out comes Pete Seeger and his banjo with Bruce Springsteen. Hoo boy. I went from tears of joy to peals of laughter in les than ten seconds.

Now Beyoncé. Great. And Stevie Wonder playing the harmonica.

Shut up, Beyoncé.

What did I miss? Should I record it so I can see Obama's speech in full? I enjoyed the whistlestop thingy yesterday. I am apparently addicted to Obama's speeches.

shit, Pete Seeger's okay in my book. I tuned in to Garth Brooks singing "Shout" followed by Bona and company.

It just made me think of Tommy Tornado's impression of Pete Seeger, which is always funny. Except when I got butthurt over him making fun of Tom Waits that one time.

I tuned out as Ashley Judd was delivering a speech for the ages (in her mind) in a very affected I'm-giving-a-speech-for-the-ages tone, just before Forest Whitaker had a chance to mumble at me while staring at the bottom right corner of my screen (I've had it in for FW since Vantage Point).

I haven't been a big fan of Mr. Whitaker since Battlefield: Earth, but he redeemed himself with Ghostdog: I Forget If There's a Subtitle Following a Colon.

What, Obama didn't want to do the Single Ladies dance?

On the bright side, Maya Angelou is not scheduled to read any poetry.

Yeah, coulda been worse. Just saw this on Salon, (from a celebration of Bush's re-election):

Quote
From Bush's remarks at the "America's Future Rocks" concert, as released by the White House:

Listen, I want to thank all the entertainers who were here today. How about Hilary Duff. She was fantastic. (Applause.) Thank you, Hilary. JoJo -- JoJo is here -- yeah. (Applause.) Rubin (sic) Studdard -- you talk about a success story. (Applause.) Ryan Cabrera, I appreciate Ryan being here. (Applause.) How about Three Doors Down? (Applause.) Pretty cool guys, right? Seem cool to me. (Applause.) Fuel -- I appreciate Fuel being here. (Applause.) Jason Sehorn -- I'm honored that my friend, Jason -- and I'm really proud and pleased that he brought his wife, Angie Harmon. (Applause.)

I want to thank Steve Baldwin for being with us today. I'm honored that Steve was here. Erika Harold, Miss America 2003 -- what a fine person Erika is. (Applause.) How about Kelly Purdue, the "apprentice." (Applause.) Next thing you know, the guy will be running for President. (Applause.) Nancy O'Dell -- I'm honored that Nancy is with us. I appreciate you all coming.

I tivo'd it for later viewing, and it's strange.  A lot of moments that break through my paper-thin jaded robot veneer to the soft touch lurking just below.

Who isn't performing at this extravaganza, besides Merle Haggard? Seems to me like everyone is.

Yeah, I know.  I'm stupid and am now on the market for a receptacle into which my lifeless form can be stuffed.

I will be glad to remove my "nooj" just to make Sarah look good. Just say the word.

You're a gentleman, sir.  But, no, I will bear my cross.  It's only right.

Some commenter on Idolator mentioned that he really wished Jello Biafra was performing there. Oof.

Sarah, you're eloquent even in blistering, scathing self-deprecation.

Blistering and scathing?  Shucks, that doesn't come close to the abuse I heap on myself regularly.

Be that as it may, you are kind.

Then you're not doing it right.
