Title: How to dress like Judge Smails
Post by: yesno on January 21, 2009, 09:51:08 AM
Dressing like like a New England WASP in the 1950s/like a Mad Man is a goal of mine that dovetails with Tom's desire to dress like Judge Smails.   Tom might be joking, BUT I'M NOT!  If I have a job that requires that I wear a suit, I'd rather try to do it this way instead of wearing some Men's Wearhouse polyester trashbag.

Resources:

Blue Blazer from http://andersonlittle.com/

It's back!  That's right, *the* classic blue blazer.  Made in the USA!

Other clothes--

The best shoes to wear when christening a boat would be Sperry Top-Siders.

Much of what is made by these guys is made in the USA, also.  Good resource on that front: http://acontinuouslean.com/the-american-list/

Do you think Judge Smails would approve of Sperry Topsiders collab with Band of Outsiders (http://sperry.bandofoutsiders.com/)??

Either way, this entire page (http://playwell.bandofoutsiders.com/) makes me happy and covetous.

Certain random preppy/wasp items of clothing seem to go through moments of trendiness when people like Puff Daddy or some indie rocker adopt them.  Sperrys were due.

I think the "captain hat and ascot" look is next:

This kind of cap'n hat already resembles some of the hip stuff you see around. Of course, the burly metal folks have already absorbed the Marty DiBergi Navy baseball cap. Still waiting for sombreros to have their impact, but I guess that's off-topic as far as captainship or yachtsmanship goes.

I think this is my favorite scene in a movie ever.

I have one of those hats.  And I earned it!
