Title: How about a "Tom Sharpling" drink?
Post by: sleepytako on January 24, 2009, 05:30:20 AM
Andy Breckman has one, how about you? I work at a bar, and I could put it on the menu. New drink special the "Tom Sharpling!"

Only problem is that I work at a bar in Japan. (http://www.wexfordtavern.com/) A bit far from New Jersey, but there must be some other bartenders in the audience. What if we all start promoting this new drink. It could be part of the world domination scheme.

So, what would you put in a drink bearing your name?

How about a "Tom Scharpling" sandwich at the Carnegie Deli?

Is Coke Blak still available in Japan?

I think it should include at least a dash of hot mustard regardless of the other ingredients.

Something about that particular condiments sez "Tom" to me.

Sadly Coke Blak was never available in Japan. We did have "Ice Cucumber" Pepsi a few years back.

Tom, if you don't take this offer of having a signature drink served in a crazily Irish themed Japanese pub, I will always wonder why. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Cold water should be an ingredient.

Smirnoff Ice should be in it as well.

The bar carries Zima, which could serve as a decent compromise...but I always associate The Kid with the Smirnoff Ice Shackleton Adventure. Really captures his moxie, if you ask me.

Ice Cucumber Pepsi tasted like shaving gel, but looked like something from Tron.  Why didn't it catch on?

That might be a tall order, but I could definitely make a Scharpling Sandwich a reality somewhere in midtown. Although, a bat with a nail hammered into it might have to be involved.

I loved the Ice Cucumber. I was very sad to see it go.

That photo was from St. Patrick's Day. It's always a bit crazy on that night. While the bar has so much stuff in it looks like the set for the Irish version of Mad Money, it's normally not so crazy. (I know all those people btw)

This idea for a Tom Scharpling drink is brilliant!  It definitely needs to have either Vitamin Water or that sodee some kid mentioned in the beginning of a show early last year prompting Tom to actually go purchase that sodee in it.  Was it Mountain Dew?  I can't remember.

Also it should have a scharpie marker garnish shoved between the ice cubes.

And vodka.  For some reason I picture Tom liking vodka a lot.

 1 oz. Coke Blak
 1 oz. McFlurry
 8 oz. Apple Juice
Served over ice, stirred, not shaken (bruises the McFlurry).

For some reason that sounds so delicious. I'm a big fan of sodas and trying as many new ones as I can. Wish I could try this.

And I still miss Coke Blak.

I think a "Tom Scharpling" might just be a Tom Collins served in a cardboard container.

With a carrot stick as a stirrer.

What about tweaking the arnold palmer (lemonade and ice tea) into the tom scharpling (organic apple juice and ice tea).  I might try that.

http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/05/shackletons-whisky-left-near-pole-dug-up/

Quote
three crates of Scotch whisky and two crates of brandy left beneath the floorboards of a hut by the polar explorer Ernest Shackleton in 1909, at the end of a failed expedition to the South Pole, have been unearthed by a team from the Antarctic Heritage Trust.

Just mix that with a little Smirnoff Ice.

I'm not much of a mixologist ...

but I feel strongly that a Tom Scharpling should be made from Top Schelf liquors.

High quality booze ... the GOOD STUFF.

And those high-quality liquors should literally be placed on a very, very high shelf. All bartenders shall be required to use a ladder any time a "Tom Scharpling" is ordered.

What about a cocktail with equal parts coke blak, oreo mcflurry, naked apple, smirnoff ice, and frozen chunks of durian blended together.  Since you'd be selling it in Japan, might as well just call it a sexy schoolgirl.

Too true.

I think a good contender would be Mountain Dew Pitch Black and Jack Daniels. With an umbrella.
