Title: Coke Blak update
Post by: daveM on January 15, 2007, 11:02:04 AM
Hi Tom,

just got an email update, first in like a year, from the CFBAA (Carbonated Fusion Beverage Association of America) and there was some Coke Blak info I thought you'd want to see...

> Coke Blak was reportedly seen in limited quantities at branches of the >Target franchise retail store in the premium beverage aisle, alongside cases >of Godiva Mocha Late and Mike's Hard Lemon Ice Tea drinks.  It was being >sold in cases of 4 miniature 8 oz. glass bottles.  No concrete information >could be obtained on plans to restock in the future.

godspeed!

I bought around 5 glass bottles of that stuff ("stuff" is all I can call it) for 50c each in France during the summer. They were guineapigging the French with it on special offer. I thought it was that Coke Zero, but I ended up leaving one bottle for the bees and the rest in the fridge.

But it works for Tom, so no dissing from me.

I tried it. I liked it.  (Tastes like Coke + cotton candy to me)

It's just a little too expensive.

My boyfriend and I just recently bought 2 of the four packs of Coke Blak at Traget.  He bought it before at Target, but this week they were on sale for $3.99, which makes them about $1 per bottle.  It's really good, and I think he is a bit bummed that they are discontinuing it.  He's not much of a soda drinker either!

I've seen plenty of this stuff here in Portland, OR.  Mostly at Safeway.  I don't drink soda, so I've never had it.

Just thought I would share... check your local Safeway.

I feel like a chump...  I scored some CokeBlak for Tom up in Canadaland and now it seems he's off it.  I, too, had a kidney stone and the culprit was caffeine.  Dehydrates your system like a mother and causes micro-mineral residue that forms into stones.  Dollars to donuts says the Kid got nailed from too much caffeine.

Anybody got any suggestions as to what I should do with this CokeBlak?  Send it to Tom anyway and let him sacrifice it on-air?

Maybe just up the vodka to Diet Coke ratio?

But... I only have one liver! Decisions, decisions.

I drink like 2-3 cups of coffee and a cup of sody a day.
But I make up for all that caffeine by getting drunk twice a week.

Oh yeah, and I started smoking 1-2 cigs a day again.

...I'm so screwed.

One or two cigarettes ain't gonna hurt you, son.

Also, what's your definition of "drunk"?  'Round these parts, people claim to be stone-cold sober after ten bee-ah and to be enjoying merely a mild "buzz" after a case.

How did we go from Coke Blak to the parade of vices, for shame.

Seriously though, with a kid on the way I've never been more wholesome.

I don't even know what my definition is anymore.  I'd say four beers and a shot in the span of about two hours = John White Horse is drunk.  Six or seven beers over the course of four hours?  John is just kinda grouchy and tired.  And feeling doughy.

That sounds about right to me.  Though last night in the chat I had two weak drinks over three hours and was tipsy to the point of making embarrassing typos!

Mixed drinks are always a wild card for me.  I can set my watch to beer.

I have that relationship with beer and Allen's coffee brandy.

I had kidney stones once; my urologist told me that caffeine consumption had next to nothing to do with developing stones, and I was more likely a victim of the high mineral content, specifically calcium, in the local water supply.

Those of you who don't think you want them? Good call.

yup calcium can cause 'em. but i thought it had a lot to do with genetic predisposition. although... my best friend has an identical twin who got stones 3 years ago and she has yet to develop them herself. (she's patiently waiting.)

that said, coke blak's packaging scares the crap out of me. i wouldn't touch that stuff if you paid me -- looks like it should contain motor oil. i like to limit my intake of chemicals to the important stuff like that fake cheese they stuff into soft pretzels from time to time. or maybe those delicious lemon pies that tastycake makes.

We have Coke Blak here in St. Louis!  Inspired by TBS, I picked up a bottle (on special for 99 cents) at my local Schnuck's supermarket.  It wasn't UNpleasant, but certainly nothing I'd buy again.
