Title: I need some help with my speech...
Post by: DoodleJump! on February 23, 2009, 11:54:24 PM
Hi guys,
I am doing an informative speech on WFMU/The Best Show this Thurs., and am writing out my formal outline to be turned in tomorrow. I need help listing some well-known connections to WFMU/Best Show...especially guest appearances on the Best Show. I can think of plenty, the trick is thinking of people that my fellow students have heard of, or would get the connection. I think I can be safe in saying that 2/3 of my class have never heard of Death Cab for Cutie, if that gives you any idea.
Here is what I have so far:
Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, Tim and Eric, Paul F. Tompkins
I know that is not much at all, and that is why I need some help. I need some really familiar names, and if not the Best Show, at least WFMU. I have Sonic Youth, Ethan Coen, and Matt Groening as fans of the station. This I found on a few newspaper articles.
I do not necessarily need a lot by tomorrow, just by Thurs.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!

Just list Todd Palin, Marky Ramone, Gene Simmons, etc. They'll be none the wiser!

This list (http://wfmu.org/guests.shtml) might be helpful.

Supposedly Rush Limbaugh pledged to JM in the AM one year but never paid up.

hey im in a speech comm class as well and have to do informative/persuasive/entertaining speeches. i  definitely wanted to do the best show for my informative speech, but i backed down. mayyybe though, i could do a persuasive one instead, persuading people to check out the show or the best show gems podcast.

Yea, I am doing my speech on free-form radio in general, then moving on to the specifics like WFMU, then the Best Show. I think it will turn out well. Maybe if you do a persuasive speech on why free-form/WFMU/Best Show is important...and why people should listen ('cause only smart or artistic people listen, or because in the future Tom will run for president or some reason like that haha).
And I have to say, the history of free-form radio is pretty intriguing.

It's true, and Christian Slater deserves more credit for inventing that whole thing.

Conan O'Brien is a fan of the Best Show, kids still love Conan I hope.  If you look at some of the earlier archives there are people like Bruce Campbell who were on the show, but more for pure plugs than because they were fans.

Those speech classes always gave me intense anxiety and tummy pains.

GOOD LUCK!

Just wanted to let you know that I delivered the speech this morning. Despite my intense nerves, I felt pretty good about it in the end, feeling certain that I had given it my very best shot. I have no idea what grade I will get, but let's hope it starts with A and ends with +.
Loads of thanks for your help! We got the Best Show word out there a little bit farther!
