i think this is a cool art piece. i don't know if i will ever listen to it again, though.
there was a little (very little) controversy about it here in canada. charles spearin, who created it, is sort of involved with broken social scene. and recently ben folds was on cbc radio being interviewed and (this is second hand paraphrasing as i haven't heard the audio) brought this album up out of nowhere to call it a piece of crap. why he picked on it in particular i'm not sure.
anyhow, torquil campbell from stars, apparently a friend and fan of spearin, immediately responded via blog --
well, as i was going off to find the link to the blog rant but found this instead!

i don't know if that renders this post more interesting or completely pointless.

It defeats the "happiness" thing, but it certainly makes it more interesting! :)
I really just found the audio kind of cute and innocent and nice. But I am definitely going to read that blog entry now.
Thanks, Crumbum

I saw a performance of this, which is as strange as you would think it was. Charles Spearin came out in the middle of a BSS concert and sort of sheepishly explained it, and then one of the tracks played and his saxophone player friend played along with it.
It was a weird kind of intermission-feeling thing, but I thought/(think) it was a cool idea and the super-stoned kids next to me seemed to be into it.
