Speaking as someone who has heard, and enjoyed, Billy Childish songs that I've heard on the Best Show and the Cherry Blossom Clinic, but does not own any of his or his bands albums, what's the best place to start with his huge body of work? Thanks!

oh, crud. I'm gonna say start with some Headcoats. Beach Bums Must Die, Sounds of the Baskervilles and W.O.AH! (their Bo Diddley tribute) are my faves. Thee Mighty Caesars "Surely They Were the Sons of God" comp is top notch. Also there's an oft-overlooked album BC did with Holly Go Lightly called IN BLOOD that is one of my favorite things he's done. I'm pretty sure all twelve songs on it are built around the same chord.

I started with the Elementray Headcoats comp and also second Beach Bums Must Die and Surely They Were the Sons of God.

Hugman and Chris L have it pegged. Start with one of the primo Thee Headcoats collections on Crypt and work your way outward. Although you can't go wrong with most Billy Childish.
Tom.

it's sad that no matter where you start, you aren't going to have an easy time finding Thee Headcoats Sect version of "Troubled Times"

let's use this thread to list our favorite Billy Childish songs
1. Troubled Times (Headcoats Sect version)
2. Can't Seem to Love that Girl/Carn't Seem to Make You Mine (Milkshakes)
3. Davey Crockett (Headcoats Sub Pop single)
wait this is too hard

Thanks! I'll check those albums out...in April. Right now every penny has to be mobilized towards the marathon.
