What are your suggestions for Ted's setlist for the 2009 Marathon Week Two Edition of TBSOWFMU?
I suggested "Hard Luck Woman" (KISS) and "Teenage Lust" (MC5) which, if my memory serves me, repulsed Erica from Baltimore (at least I think it was her). I Think "The Mighty Sparrow" would be great too - give us a taste of things to come from TL/Rx.
-
Sunndal Song by the Apples in Stereo from New Magnetic Wonder.
This Will Be Our Year by the Zombies.
-
I know this is a longshot since Teddy was kind enough to play RUSH for me last year, but I'm going to suggest "The Beautiful Song" (http://www.filedropper.com/08thebeautifulsong1) by Willard Grant Conspiracy because it makes me think of Newbridge's famous Muffler Row.
Sincerely, though, I love that song.

Master Heartache by Sir Lord Baltimore
-
I've always thought Ted could do a killer version of Jackson Browne's "Doctor My Eyes."
I wish I were kidding.
-
A Curtis Mayfield song of his choosing.

I agree with MOS, and similarly would enjoy "Doctor my Eyes."
Alternatively, I think Ted would do an awesome cover of "Dancin' in the Moonlight."
-
"Angelfuck" on The Mike Show.
-
He should do a preview of his tune on the RAM tribute album (can't remember which song he's doing).
-
He's doing Back Seat of My Car on the premium album, which would have been my first choice for a McCartney song for him to do. My second choice, though, would be "Oh Woman, Oh Why", the b-side to Another Day.
-
Left of the Dial? Cowboy Song?
-
Metal Machine Music.
Side 3 please.
-
Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos
-
Did Ted play "Suspect Device" last year? That seems like an obvious song for fans of Judge Montgomery Davies.
-
Porcupine Pie
-
Porcupine Pie
What if he played all of Tom's Worst Songs Ever: Porcupine Pie, The Loadout, Cowboy Star, Blueberries for Breakfast...and some Gary Puckett tunes to round it out.

That's a fantastic idea.
I want to hear Ted do a Phoenix cover.

Something by the Go-Betweens? "Cattle and Cane?"
-
"Does Your Mother Know That You're Out" ~ ABBA
"Amoreena" ~ Elton John (if it translates well to guitar)
"Watch That Man" ~ David Bowie
-
UNDER PRESSURE
-
Or Sufragette City!
-
Miss X
-
"Rebel Rebel"
Or "Welfare Bread." I told the guy standing next to me to get out a dollar bill before the show started. His dollar bill was later set on fire!! Oh fun!
-
"Just What I Needed", with the "Newbridge Theme Song" lyrics.
-
"Just What I Needed", with the "Newbridge Theme Song" lyrics.
With the midi accompaniment only of course.
-
Sesame Street theme song!
Sunny Day
Chasin' the Blue away*
On my way to piles of blow
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Muffler Row
*Had to edit this line!

I'd like to hear a duet with Tom as Elvis Costello. Something like Busy bodies
-
A KISS song would be great - either Black Diamond or 100,000 Years.

Seconded, obviously.
What, MoS, nothing from Animalize?
-
I think pretty much anything penned by Jim Steinman would be totally appropriate.
-
A punk tango-fied rendition of Roxanne?
-
A KISS song would be great - either Black Diamond or 100,000 Years.
I did suggest "Hard Luck Woman" (dedicated to Sheila Larson, perhaps. Although "Strutter" might be more appropriate for her), because, if memory serves me, Ted had mention that song on the show once.
I think he should start with, "Standing on the corner, suitcase in my hand... That's all you get." And then go into a Punk Tango version of "Perfect Day" with Tom.
-
I would also love a Magnolia-esque group sing-a-long of "Wise Up". I'm thinking Hodgman can end the song like Stanley with a choked "give up" and Tom roars in saying that HE WILL NEVER GIVE UP.
-
I remember hearing Ted say he was a fan of the Minutemen in an interview. I guess if he played anything by them that would be great. Corona, Bob Dylan Wrote Propaganda Songs, and Little Man With a Gun In His Hand would all be amazing.
-
Outlaw Pete.

The song "Whisper to a Scream" would be a great one. That's the one that Costello sang with the guy from Squeeze (Gifford , or Tillbrook, or Dillbrook, or whatever).
Ted's voice is well-suited to the Squeeze guy's part of the song ... and Tom could go crazy on the Elvis part.
-
"Radio Sweetheart" - Elvis Costello
-
The Smiths - Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want
Please, please, please give us $1.2 million
'Cause lord knows WFMU needs it!
-
Some Creedence.
-
Some Creedence.
YES! I'd love to hear "Wrote a Song for Everyone" or "Who'll Stop the Rain."
AGAIN, I'd like to hear Ted Leo doing "Another Girl, Another Planet."
I'll be tuned in.
-
I posted it over there, but I will repost it over here; Ted as Geddy Lee (Teddy Lee?) and Aimee as Aimee Mann in an acoustic blowup of "Time Stand Still"

Feathers, look they're covered with a bright elation.

if youre referring to the replacements and thin lizzy, i second this. in fact, i second almost every song/duo/group scenario pitched. especially:
I would also love a Magnolia-esque group sing-a-long of "Wise Up". I'm thinking Hodgman can end the song like Stanley with a choked "give up" and Tom roars in saying that HE WILL NEVER GIVE UP.

I think I'm going to have to write you up for Fontasy Oversharing.
-
Teddy Rock Star should write a tribute to Jonathan Krohn like the one he wrote for WFMU last year.

That would be radical. Make each sensation a little bit stronger.
