My theory on the whole Charles-Grodin-playing-himself-on-Laverne-and-Shirley conundrum. By December 15th 1981, the date that "Friendly Persuasion," the episode in question, originally aired, Charles Grodin was infact already *kind of* famous. He had (co)starred in big movies like King Kong and Real Life in the 70's and just that previous summer had a not insignificant role in the smash hit - The Great Muppet Caper. Still, he was B-list at best. So it is sort of odd that he would be doing a TV cameo as himself but not out of the question. What I really want to know is what he was doing on Shelley Duvall's Bedtime Stories. He voiced what was apparently a cartoon fascimile of himself in an episode entitled Rotten Island. ??
These shows need to be released on DVD. I'm thinking about starting a petition. Maybe an entire DVD devoted to Charles Grodin's sitcom appearances. I'd buy it!

P.S. Do yourself a favor and rent Clifford. Tom's not lying, it really is a great movie. Oh, sure the plot is stupid and the whole production is mediocre but that's not the point. The real draw is the interaction between Grodin and Short. Arguably Grodin's best work.

I'd buy a DVD of Grodin's Letterman appearances.
