Hi folks,
I should have done this sooner, but I haven’t looked up much yet this week.
Mom is doing great. The tumor was almost three times as large as thought, but it “came away clean” in surgeon-talk. She lost about 22 inches of her colon, but the remaining sections were successfully re-attached.
She sat up in a chair for 3 hours on the day after the surgery.
3 days after the surgery, she walked her first lap up and down the length of the floor.
By all accounts, her recovery was exceptional; her pain was under control, and she had no “hot spots” of infection. The 4th day, the surgeon brought her even better news. They had sectioned and biopsied everything, and outside of the tumor itself, there was no sign of cancer anywhere.
She is home, resting comfortably, almost back to her regular routine, cooking, doing light laundry, watching lots of Judge Judy. She will receive one precautionary round of what is described as “light chemo”, because the tumor had breached the colon wall in one small spot. She has been told that her treatment will not cost her any hair, and that most patients don’t experience any sickness beyond a general sluggishness.
We could not have asked for better results. Thanks to all of you, you’ve been an absolutely wonderful support during this time (and all the time, really.)

I'm very glad to hear of this, I missed the thread before. Moms in peril is one of the worst feelings in the world!

This is terrific news, Dave. Best wishes.

glad to hear that all is well. Moms are awesome.

Good news given the worrisome title of this thread.

Only inappropriate as it didn't even TRY to be funny. It's sorta maudlin.

ditto. im SO SO SO glad to hear that things are well, judge judy is in proper rotation, and the chemo is fluff. also, depending on how often she needs to go and for how long, i have plenty of mom-does-chemo appropriate DVDs from the $5 wal-mart bin.
national treasure, anyone? a river runs through it?

My mother would hate those movies. She's more of a Lars von Trier kind of gal.

My mom LOVED Team America.

I think Judge Judy is an anti-oxidant. *INSERT TERRIBLE JOKE ABOUT FIGHTING FREE RADICALS*
Seriously, the best to you and MotherFK. It was great to hear you on the show again and hope the recovery continues positively.

Yeah, I keep checking back on this thread, hoping for inappropriate personal news about other moms.
I want to meet those moms.

i've aired my dirty laundry for inappropriate mom news on here before- i call her cancer mom.
we talked about that title the other day (since she is now remission mom) and agreed that its vulgarity was obnoxious enough to make the severity of the situation easier to handle. once, i made her dinner, cleaned the house, let her rest, and i told her the next time i wanted a vacation i would get cancer. she laughed.
ive gotten emails from friends who think its offensive/rude, but M.O.M. lets me do it and she's the only person i'm worried about offending. yeah, we're sick, but we made cancer a light subject because it's fucking scary (and quite depressing). luckily, she's a tough lady.

I'm really happy to hear that Dave! Your Mother must be a fighter is she was able to rebound that well... that's no easy thing to do.
You and your family are in my thoughts Dave! All of my best ones!

Hope your Mom is doing well, Baron.
thanks, JG. it's insane how inspiring she is.
also, ive donated funds to a luminaria* for any and all FOT+their relatives who have survived/battled/passed away from cancer (-related) issues through my relay for life fund. money is tight and not everyone can donate, so i figured i would put something out there for anyone who has dealt with cancer or the fear of cancer (props to MFK+DFK & co.!).
