Not since the day they decided to pave Manhattan Avenue has there been so much excitement in the little neighborhood of Greenpoint.
Deals $5 opened to much ballyhoo over the weekend and was hailed as a great advance in retail for this part of Greenpoint. No longer will shoppers have to schlep blocks to get Capn Crunch, bails of toilet paper, or biblical figurines and googly eyes. Now it's right there at their finger tips.
This store put's AP Mike's Acme to shame.

Wide aisles and bright lights welcome the local shopper.

Get the symbolism here? Little David (Deals $5) takes on the Goliaths (Ikea, Crate and Barrel?). Guess who comes out on top?

I love Deals. I once found a video game there (back when they were everything's-a-dollar type stores) where you played a nun, an angel, or a robot who fought demons by shooting bibles at them. It was practically a Second Life for pastors.
