Title: NoMeansNo?
Post by: Phantom Hugger on March 30, 2009, 09:46:13 PM
Hey Tom,
I am wondering why this great band has been conspicuously left off TBS's play list. I think that maybe this is just an oversight on your part, or maybe there is a beef.(?)
If you are serious about moving the show to Canada, showing some love for this oft under heard band could go kilometers toward ingratiating yourself to the good people of the North.

Just a thought/concern.

Your Hidden Hand,

Phantom ;)

EDIT: might I recommend, The End of All Things from the inimitable record, Wrong?

I'm pretty sure I remember Tom saying he didn't like them much, he lumped them in with Primus.

Check the archive show from 09/25/2001. A great conversation about bands and Tom gives a thumbs down to NoMeansNo.

(I myself think they are very good.)

NMN have been compared to a lot of bands, but I think they deserve their own stage without the unfortunate comparisons.

They have that post punk 'funk' (I hate that tag), that is often compared to sub par drug adled retro acts (RHCP) or jammy technicians (Primus), I say these hold no water at all.

If a comparison must be made, I think the one that is most apt is a leaner and meaner Minutemen.

That said, they are their own force. To dismiss them because of bad associations (from former days) is to cast ones self as a retro active Trembling Eagle as far getting a full picture of what is good and worthy in the rock world.

But I could be wrong (ie. el Goodo does not likey), but as it turns out, I'm not (I likey not matter what).

I don't know much about music, but would it be fair to compare NoMeansNo to Mr. Bungle? Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you very much.

Trying to get Tom to play your favorite bands on the radio is about as fruitful as [you get the idea].  He'll play what he wants and that's that.

...aren't that far off.

Nomeansno is waayy better than terrible shit like Primus, but I do think they have a lot in common. Every time I start to get into a Nomeansno song they ruin it with some pop-n-slap bass garbage.

i like the hanson brothers.  although, no matter what they're playing as, those guys smell AWFUL.

You mean you don't love slap bass?

Can any hardcore NoMeansNo fans help me out

years ago (back in the napster days I think, though it could have been Scour or Kazaa) I downloaded a song from NoMeansNo called "No Means No"

Most lyric sites have the lyrics for the song, but I can't find it on any of their releases. Either it wasn't really No Means No that played that song, or it's on some obscure record somewhere

Either way, I love that song and I want to own it

If someone could help, I'd apreciate it

I have it. It is from this compilation (http://www.discogs.com/Various-Over-A-Century-Of-Vivisection-And-Anti-Vivisection-How-Much-Longer/release/1154088). But I am swamped right now. I'll try to get it to you tonight.
