Post by: hugman on April 03, 2009, 05:48:05 PM: yea, i found it hilarious when he was messing with fashion people (hitler was coo), but as far as goading homophobic rednecks? it doesn't really have much bite to it. Bruno would turn just about anybody into a homophobe if he bothered them enough. The whole idea of "if you don't accept my obnoxiousness as charming than you just don't like gay people" thing doesn't help much to "win hearts and minds" in the fight for marriage equality (which I have been participating in).

That said, I'll probably see it on DVD, and I'll probably laugh some.

Yep. Still appeals to me. I think it looks hilarious. I don't really care about the "social satire" angle, I just think he's funny, and as yesno points out, totally fearless.

EDIT: like 8 comments in, a few people on the AV Club thread say the exact same thing. So I guess this is not quite so amusing/unique of me.
