Title: Dear Tom, RE: removed archives
Post by: Richard_From_CHI on January 29, 2007, 05:16:09 PM
Tom,

I know you have removed a couple archives here and there so that the material could be put on CD's and a few due to litigations (Blood, Sweat, and Real Tears anyone?).

I, the completist listener, would love to hear some of these shows. Any chance of having them returned?

Thanks,

Richard Holland

Or a special podcast with the CD-material removed and a WACKY ADVERTISEMENT demanding that you purchase all Stereolaffs swag?

Tom, I know you have removed them intentionally, but I would like to ask you to return them anyway. I am, after all, someone who, for all you know, has no intention of purchasing the goods in support of your brilliant works. Thanks.

Lauries suggestion is a good one. I certainly don't want to take money out of anyones pocket.

It would be cool if Jon Wurstersauce would record a little clip threatening listeners if they don't buy Stereolaffs CDs.

Please return the old archives! For completest sake, I need them for my upcoming contest's artistic creation. (i don't want to miss anymore important information about Newbridge, NJ) Thanks.

p.s. you can exclude the cd material

I have an old Mummies 7" ("Shot Down") where they do exactly that...right in the middle of the song, it cuts out and says something to the effect of "...hey, if you wanna hear the rest of the song, go buy the fucking album"

I heart the Mummies.

Tom is the Decider.  If he doesn't want an archive to exist -- for whatever reason -- then so be it.

That said, I did hear the June 27, 2006 before it was removed, and found it amazing.  True, it was a deluge of huffing weirdos, but the humanity and quick-on-his-feet aspect of Scharpling  was jaw-droppingly exquisite.

Business proposal: Only allow FOT Forum Members with a minimum number  of posts to PURCHASE the wayward episodes.  Stereolaffs would wait until a certain number of inquiries were made and just burn chunks of CDrS as necessary.

I'm all for it.

Tom any reaction to any of this?

After posting that proposal, I realized (I assumed) that Tom didn't want the mutants who called that night to have an Eternal Flame to which they could link to in perpetuity. The BenFrank Syndrome, if you will.  Whatever ... it's not like the well is running dry.  Moonshake recently posted a link to a fave of his -- the Pizza Grudge -- and it was like a birthday present to me.  I had somehow never heard it.  Totally effing hilarious.

Everyone -

I would love to put up the shows minus the S&W calls at some point. But right now things are busy, and it's not at the Top Of The List, so to speak.

Someday though. I promise.

Tom.

Oh, yeah, I remember that.

I have a 1 second clip of Tom saying "Pizza Deficiency..." from the 7-9-2002 show.

I would love to hear the removed shows, also, no matter what you have to take out to make it happen. It would make a great premium for a future marathon.

WELL I THINK IT WOULD

MAN YOU'RE SUCH A JERK

YOU'RE DEAD

You don't call me a jerk.  I call you a jerk.  Jerk.

Now allow me to explain my position:
I'm totally against pressuring Tom to resuscitate removed archives.  If S&W want to remove archives, I say let'em.  It's not like there's not 5,000 other episodes available for free already and it's not like they don't already have an amazing podcast lackey constantly editing down new shows to make them podcast-safe.  Sheesh.

Fair enough, I understand that. There are few things more obnoxious than an ultra-demanding fan of ANYTHING. But I don't think theres anything wrong with us fans letting Tom know that it's something we'd like, as long as we're polite about it. Maybe people here thought Tom simply didn't think anybody cared enough about the missing non-wurster parts of the shows? I was just trying to come up for an actual reason for Tom to pursue it, like a MARATHON PREMIUM, so he wasn't just doing it because we demand it. Tom shouldn't have to deal with that. I think we're all extremely lucky and a little spoiled that we have such a huge archive of the Best Show for our enjoyment, and its important not to forget that.

I'm sorry I called you dead, dude! I DIDN'T MEAN IT

I had already suggested this to Tom a long time ago, and rest assured, de-Wurster'ed versions of the removed archives is something that's definitely on the table. It's just that no promises or timetables can be given, especially for any of the archives before September '03 (which is when I started listening to the show and began editing the shows every week). Tom would have to go back into his own archives to dig those ones out (mostly from DAT, I assume). Don't hold your breath for those ones.

For anything after that, however, I can probably add edited versions of the pulled shows to the podcast feed for those weeks when Tom doesn't have a show.

Does that sound like a plan? Or should I just save those shows for die-hard fans to download via the FMU archive page, and keep the podcast feed undefiled from the comedy-redacted archives?
