According to the Scharpling twitter, it's gonna happen!
RT @Scharpling Oh my goodness, it looks like the impossible is going to happen. MARTIN SHORT on tomorrow's Best Show On WFMU! CLIFFORD ALERT!
I really hope he's not kidding. This could be truly... and I try not to overuse this word... epic. Anyone know if it's true or not?
-
This would be great, if true. It would be even better, though, if Jackie Rogers Jr. were on the show.
-
Ed Grimley!!
-
He isn't kidding. This is going to be tremendous.
-
I just realized that even though I've had this account for a while, that was my first post. Hopefully I'll have many many more.
Anyway, who thinks he should give Short the suit from the movie to wear? That would be just amazing. I'll bet it still fits, too. Maybe, since it's radio, his character from Pure Luck and Jiminy Glick can all have a conversation with each other!
-
It's a great film, but I would hope that the entire show wouldn't just be about Clifford. Personally, I'm more of a fan of Martin Short's work on SCTV and SNL than I am of his film work.
-
Three Fugitives is criminally underrated, evidenced by the fact that youtube has only a VHS upload with Swedish subtitles.

Really.

Maybe we could get a "The World Is in the Turlet" cover from the Queen Haters!

I hope Tom (or someone) can ask him about the Ed Grimley cartoon, which remains one of my favorite shows ever (animated or otherwise).
-
Hope this isn't like the time Jerry Seinfeld was "on."
-
"It is official. MARTIN SHORT on THE BEST SHOW ON WFMU tonight! 8-11 PM EST wfmu.org RT this and spread the word!"
Awesome

SO pumped for this. Martin Short went to my dad's high school.

I remember the Ed Grimley cartoon. That was great. Martin Short is a legend and I'm looking forward to listening to the show tonight.

I was reading up on Martin Short's career history today, and found a surprise on the Wikipedia entry for Clifford! Check out who's listed as "starring" in the movie. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifford_(film))
(Apologies if this has already been posted in another thread.)

This is the only video that I could find of the Ed Grimley cartoon show:

I miss cartoons like this.

A few years back, I posted about it on my web site and put some clips up. Then my YouTube account got shut down--not for Ed Grimley, but for some other random footage of Roger Clemens I'd posted.
One of many reasons why the Rockets' current disgraced state brings me so much joy.
-
YouTube shut down a guy who used to have a bunch of old NBC-era Letterman clips because he had some vintage MLB highlight video posted on his channel.

I don't doubt it. MLBAM is completely fascist about anything even remotely baseball related being posted to YouTube.

I helped some groups with a complaint to the FTC about MLB and the NFL (and some other shady characters) constantly repeating that you're not allowed to use *any* of their copyrighted material without permission. Because, you know, that's not true--but lots of people get their ridiculously broad notions of copyright from public pronouncements like that. Didn't go anywhere. We need to someone to actually get sued by MLB for posting some decades-old clip in a very fair-use kind of way, but most people quite rationally chicken out.
Back to the topic, I'm only 60% convinced that Martin Short is really going to be on the show. Tom needs to have some kind of special "non-fake-guest" alert. I wasn't convinced that Bruce Campbell was going to be on that one show until I heard his sparkling wit.

Similar to what happened to me. I posted some spring training previews from 20+ years ago I had on an old VHS tape, and got a cease and desist. I took it down just to avoid trouble. Eventually, they shut me down for some fairly innocuous interview with Roger Clemens and Nolan Ryan circa 1989.
What really sucks is that I had a ton of old commercials and general nonsense in my account, as well as the aforementioned Ed Grimley cartoon clips. It's all stuff I could post again, but it took months and months of accumulated effort, which I can't really devote any more. Oh well.
-
The fact that this is actually happening blows my mind, I must say.
Way to go, Tom! Grodin next week?
-
I'm really pulling for Mary Steenbergen. At least she doesn't use her celebrity as currency while ordering pizza (as far as we know...).
-
My question to Martin Short (if he is going to be on the show):
Martin returns for Inner Space 2, only this time he is being shrunk and injected.....into the body of Tom Scharpling!! Martin, which part of Tom's body do you head for first?
-
To answer my own question, I would make a beeline for the throat so that I watch the physical process involved in the birth of a GOMP.
-
I hope I can finagle making a very respectful comment to Mr Short.
-
I've been meaning to watch the Jimminy Glick flick for ages...they don't carry copies of it anywhere! Tom mentioned liking the David Lynch characterization. Anyone seen it?

That guy is back, baby!!!!!!
And so is this clip, replete with future Prank Patrol host:

And for the subject: Love "Shower/Blowdryer in a Briefcase"
"TAXI!" <splash!> "WHYYYY YOUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!"
-
I have very fond memories of that Martin Short HBO comedy special. It would really make my lifetime if they released it on dvd.
-
"I know that... of course I know that. I was on the committee. Is it him, or is it me? It's him, right?"
-
How is this even possible? What kind of big, bright beautiful world do we live in where this can happen?
-
wow
that's all I can say
-
I hope that I haven't been:

-
Oooh, I am so happy!
Wouldn't it be a tragic shame if there were some kind of mix up and Martin ended up on The Mike Show instead? Oh dear...
-
I don't think you have been, Regulator Guy, The. It's on the front page of the WFMU website, so it seems legit.
-
I will never doubt Mr. Scharpling again.
-
CONGRATULATIONS TOM for landing this interview. Awesome! Also, thanks to that weird Breckman guy for his help in making it happen.
So hey, here's a lost gem in the works of Mr. Short:
http://www.sctvguide.ca/episodes/as_msshow.htm#show_formerly_known_as_the_martin_short_show
It was shown on NBC in May of 1995, as a "replacement" show in the SNL time slot. It only aired once, as far as I know ... but I saw it at the time and remember being quite impressed with it. Does anyone know if this can be found anywhere? Perhaps on one of the torrent sites? It was a great showcase for Mr. Short and some of his favorite co-conspirators (Jan Hooks, Phil Hartman, and a lot of SCTV people).
This is the one and only clip from the show that I was able to find on YouTube:

Martin Short as Brad Allen the President of Scrap-Co is the funniest thing on SCTV.
Artisans and their Arts rules.
-
That was a really awesome episode. I wonder if Short's a regular listener now?
-
that dude was such a good sport. and have you seen captain ron?! what a cool guy.
-
I happen to love Captain Ron!

Clifford gets the TV Carnage seal of approval:
