Title: Inspiring Lines in Music
Post by: Andy on May 07, 2009, 11:29:12 AM
I need some great one liners from songs for a project I'm working on.  The context of the line in the song doesn't matter (I can't believe I just wrote that), I just need some of those lines that jump up and hit you when you hear them.  Real inspirational type shit that can serve as jumping off points for discussions.

Examples:
"Do you believe in something beautiful? Then get up and be it."
"There's no love as true as the love that dies untold"

Seriously, I need some help.

or just some open mocking.  Whichever.

Over and over we die one after the other.

Other dudes are livin' in the ghetto, but phony Pacific Heights don't seem much betto.

Tres butch little number whines "Hey dirty, I want you - When it's good, it's really good, and when it's bad I go to pieces."

If I could be anything in the world that flew, I would be a bat and coming swooping after you.

Come to think of it, I think I did exactly the opposite of what was requested.  But hey, that's me.

No one in the world ever gets what they want,
And that is beautiful
Everybody dies frustrated and sad
And that is beautiful

Geez, I don't think I've listened to TMBG since the 90's. I need to start again.

That's very profound. Here are some other inspiring lines:

Well now, see the desert
I sit all alone in the desert
And no girl understands me
But I can see through this bleakness and grey and sadness
And well I won't die now
Someday I'll be dignified and old
I say, you, don't die now
Someday we'll be dignified and old together

It's not a song, but yesterday my 3-year old niece said, "I love you as much as a gold boat of my own".

When you cycled by
here began all my dreams
the saddest thing I've ever seen
and you never knew
how much I really liked you
because I never even told you
oh, but I meant to

My pink half of the drainpipe
Separates me from the incredibly fascinating story of your life and every day to day event in all it's minute and tedious attention to detail... And was it a Thursday or a Wednesday? Or, oh, no, it wasn't though. Oh, who cares anyway because I do not

The only girl I've ever loved
Was born with roses in her eyes
But then they buried her alive
One evening 1945
With just her sister at her side
And only weeks before the guns
All came and rained on everyone
Now she's a little boy in Spain
Playing pianos filled with flames
On empty rings around the sun
All sing to say my dream has come

And if I really thought I could
I'd give up your ghost for good
But I'm not sure it isn't you
That keeps my ghost from leaving too

But I don't miss you half as much
As who you made me think I was
When I could see myself the way you do
I could almost see myself in you

So you got no friends and you wander through the night,
And now you watch the sunrise through a rifle site.
Well, don't believe in people who say it's all been done.
They've got time to talk because their race is run.
So get in some licks,
And hold your head up,
And soon you will be drinkin' from that crystal cup.

Say it with dead flowers at my wedding
And I won't forget to put roses on your grave

I wish you luck with a capital F

-i've thought so much about suicide, parts of me have already died.

-of all the many ways a man will break his heart, well, there ain't none meaner than he pulls his own apart.

-and he whipped that dog so bad that it crawled on its belly to lick his hand.

-you can take my house, you can take my land, but you can't take the work out of these calloused hands.

-you better have your pants cinched up good if you're gonna fly by the seat like you normally would.

-guys like me are a dime a dozen, usually right around holidays. the rest of the year we're a nickel a gross or even less if you haul us away.

"And one day we will die
And our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see"

Also:

"Do you realize that you have the most beautiful face?"

And,

"There is no dream,
So wake up run your lips across your fingers till you find
Some scent of yourself that you can hold up high
To remind yourself that you didn't die
On a day that was so crappy whole and happy you're alive"

on the ferris wheel
looking out on Coney island
under more stars than
there are prostitutes in Thailand
our hair in the air
our lips blue from cotton candy
when we kiss it feels
like a flying saucer landing

I walk into the club looking kind of sexy now.
I see these shorties in the corner, they started making out.
They pull their panties down, They take their pants off.
Then they started getting freaky on the dance floor.
Shake it mommy give it to me like you need some love.
I got some bottles in the caddy that we can open up.
Lets get drunk tonight, baby we don't have to fuck.
And bring your friend along, maybe we can have some fun.

Lets get freaky now, lets get fucking freaky now. (x4)

I got these bitches all tipsy trying to sex me.
I know they want it, alcoholics are some sex freaks.
This ex and chronic gots me wanting to get messy.
So lets get messy girls, Come on lets go get messy girls.

Come on bitch, you know you want this.
That hardcore shit will make you feel the toxic.
Fursachi, Rolex watches.
Bently coups with the 20's droppin.
Convertible top, and the wheels spin.
I can taste that ice when my grill is in.
If you want me baby feel me in.
Cause I don't waste my time with lesbians.

Lets get freaky now, lets get fucking freaky now. (x4)

LIAR! (x8)

Oh baby why did you have to lie to me.
I can't play no more games.
These thoughts are slowly controlling me.
You're turning off the flame.
So GO baby GO baby.
You don't want me.
So GO baby Go baby.
Come and get me.
So GO baby GO baby.
You don't want me.
So GO baby Go!
Come and get me.

Lets get freaky now, lets get fucking freaky now. (x4)

I realize I did this wrong the first time, so here are shorter!:

"I'm gonna do my best swan dive... into shark-infested waters."

"I'm on a roll this time. I feel my luck could change."

"And in the end, The love you take, Is equal to the love you make."

"(I) Hate a lot of things. But I love a few things. And you are one of them."

"Good morning son. In 20 years from now, maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers. And I can tell you about today and how I picked you up and everything changed."

"...So in the end I'd like to say that I'm a very thankful man. I tried to make the most of my situations, and enjoy what I had. I knew true love and I knew passion, and the difference between the two. I had some regrets, but if I had to do it all again, well it's somethin' I'd like to do."

EDIT: Just re-read need for "one liners." Sorry.

"I put all the lines I wanted because I liked them all.
The other lines have feelings, too.
Andy asked for just one, but I'll let him tell the other lines they aren't good enough.
I'm not sorry I didn't follow his directions.
I would do the same thing again."

Agreed. Anyway, my line(s), way back on page 1, were from the Modern Lovers song, "Dignified and Old."

flowers on your grave
i never loved you
flowers on your grave
i never touched you
i'll bet that you're there
never knew you cared
flowers on your grave

little buttercups and wild daizies
by the lilly pond, remember baby
blowing dandeliens, my only wish was you

sitting on a cold slab
feeling my warm stab
you know I'll be missing you
that's why i'm kissing you

i look funny all dressed in black
my wet hankerchief won't bring you back
now they're lowering you down
you feel me from underground

flowers on your grave
i never loved you
flowers on your grave
i never touched you
i paid my respects
too little too late
flowers on your grave

jealous of the flies and the worms inside me
jealous of the flies and the worms inside me
jealous of the flies and the worms inside me
jealous of the flies and the worms inside me
