Title: Dane Cook: Isolated Incident
Post by: Keith Whitener on May 07, 2009, 05:38:40 PM
Who will submit themselves to this? I'm hoping Tom will! One of the longer promos I saw said something along the lines of, "It's Dane Cook like you've never seen him before," adding that he'd lost both his parents in the same year. Cut to Dane air humping a stool.

I heard a rumor that he's booked for The Mike Show in a few weeks.

He got bumped by The Kid from Brooklyn.

I think Mike should opt for Dane's brother who stole all his money.

I saw a commercial for this last night that said something along the lines of, "Dane showed up to a Hollywood club unannounced and Comedy Central came with him..." Now I see on Wikipedia, "In the special, Cook performs to a crowd of only 30 people, at the Laugh Factory." I'm just interested in seeing what a 60 minute special looks like when you've got a crowd of 30 people with 29 of them probably being small time comics who got bumped from an open mic night.

And when is HBO going to air Darren Cook's Tourgasm? I heard they were filming his set at Mt. Everest.

I actually thought Mo'nique was funny.
Dane Cook was his usual self.
No thoughts on Mr. Lopez.

Was George Lopez the guy who was complaining about television being racist or something, because his shitty show got cancelled?

i never saw the george lopez show, it looked terrible.  and it couldnt possibly be due to racism, tyler perry now has TWO shows on television.

however, i will note that george lopez stand up can be funny, particularly to me, because an unfiltered 50% of my genetic origin is from that culture.  i understand the inner workings of a strictly mexican household/summer upbringing...in Kansas.

George Lopez's stand up is pretty funny.  His show stunk, though.

I liked this Dane Cook special a lot better then his other recent ones.  It felt like an actual SHOW and not some bloated, over-hyped event.

The George Lopez show is pretty bad, but my girlfriend sorta likes it.  It's not any worse than Home Improvement or any other shitty show by white people that lasts forever.  According to Ed Asner, Mexicans are taking the heat off the blacks w/r/t white racist aggression, because "There's only so much hate to go around".*  But yeah, George Lopez did make those claims.  I think his point was that his show had decent ratings and the network kept some really really horrible shows on and dropped his show.

*It should be noted Ed Asner said this on Tavis Smiley and was not let off the hook about it, but he is also very old and out of touch, and he was trying to be a proper liberal, and this kinda thing may have been really progressive to say in 1962 but not so much 47 years later.

I wouldn't say he's out of touch. I completely agree with him.
