Title: Ted leo shows announced
Post by: gravy boat on May 12, 2009, 12:20:25 PM
Not sure if this was posted yet but Ted Leo has some tour dates posted.

http://tedleo.com/news.php

If any other FOTs are going to the Sunday night show in Kearny NJ, the missus and I would like to lift a pint with you.

On a related note, if any other FOTS will be in northern NJ that night, do not plan to attend Ted Leo, are good with kids, have a (mostly) clean criminal record, and would like to make some spare change, I have three little kids that need sitting. They are mostly good.

seeing as there's no make up date for Norman, I may consider seeing my first show at Maxwell's if the FOT are going to make a showing.

I already asked to not go to work the day after he's here.

I like TL's stuff, but the list of bands I would drive to Cha'lotte to see includes:

- Radiohead (and I already did that).
-

Yeah... I guess I'm not a really dependable fan of live music.

I would totally drive down for that show if it weren't for the fact that there's no way I can take the next day off.

Does anyone have an idea of who the special guest will be at the show at Maxwell's?

What, are you saying that if you call in with Swine Flu, you still have to go to work?

I think I'd have a tough time convincing my boss that having red eyes and smelling of alcohol are swine flu symptoms.

Titus Andronicus is gonna be hot shit on these shows, too. They swung through my town last month and tore the roof off the place. What great pairing of acts. This will be unmissable.

By the way, he's not really coming to Knoxville. And I can't afford Bonnaroo. Maybe 2012.

I'm going to the New Haven show tonight, and through some radio magic, will probably be interviewing/hanging out with Titus Andronicus before the show. If anyone else is in CT, I'll be the scrawny, unshaven dude with long hair and my Best Show Scarface t-shirt...

Titus Andronicus was such a nice fellow. I started getting on his nerves because I talked too much, but that didn't stop me.

No shit, well, I shook your hand at the merch table.

Show was amazing, tonight. Cock Sparrer covers from both bands! Especially liked the Daft Punk insertion into the end of "Little Dawn" and the Neu!-esque thing while Marty Violence changed a broken bass string.

Cool, nice to meet you dude. Yeah, and it Cock Sparrer appreciation night or something. Good show though. When I saw Titus earlier this year at Maxwell's, they burned the place down. Not quite as intense tonight, but still awesome.

As for Ted. Well, he was just great. The Daft Punk thing was really cool. It took me a minute to place what exactly I was hearing.

Last time I saw Titus was at a record store to a generally unethusiastic crowd so this was a huge improvement.

The new TLRx songs are so damn good. I can't wait for the new record. I hope we get it in the near future.

July 23rd! New York City! Let's do this, people. Meet up, greet up.

I do feel bad that this is perhaps the third time I'm seeing Teddy Rockstar for free. Maybe when he plays Town Hall for $125 I'll have to go for penance.

I should mention, the dude playing bass for Titus Andronicus is named Liam. He records under the name Liam the Younger and has a song on the new Underwater Peoples compilation Summertime Showcase 2009, which is absolutely killer. That and he's only 19. I feel so unaccomplished.

Saturday night's show in Providence was amazing.  Getting to see TL along with a stellar opening act like Titus Andronicus in an intimate venue like AS220 was such a treat (I couldn't have been more than ten feet away from Ted).  He even managed to hurl some good-natured abuse back at a heckler (who was razzing him for dropping his pick even before the first song) in a manner that would make Tom proud.

Cool. How is AS220? A couple of my friends absolutely love the place. I've always wanted to go. Toad's Place happened to be a bit more convenient this time around.

AS220's one of my favorite places in Providence.  They have a decent taqueria on one side of the room and a well stocked bar on the other.  The performance space in the other room is cozy and doubles as a gallery with art installations.  It's the kind of place that I would have no problem just dropping in to have a bite and a drink ($2.50 tallboy cans of 'Gansett!) and see what's happening on any night.  The crowd is pretty young, and at 28, I do feel a little old there, but as a guy who often goes to sunday movie matinees and tours of historical sites, it's nice to be regarded as an oldster sometimes.

Wow. Sounds really cool. I'll have to make a point of it to see Abe Vigoda there next month. Assuming that it's the band, and not the dude...

I have an extra ticket to the Maxwell's show tonight.

Let me know if you want to buy it. Face value. Just one though. I bought two and my friend pulled out.

The show last night at the Kearny, NJ Irish-American hall was of course awesome (happy father's day to me), and the non-rock show setting gave it a cool Sunday matinee feel.

He played a lot of older songs, and I was surprised by how many people seemed to know his entire catalog.  A fun crowd -- lots of clapping and singing along.

Ted was sick which limited his vocal range but in true Ted fashion he let nothing dampen his enthusiasm or effort.  (he said a Widespread Panic-listening hippie tick gave him something in Tennessee.)

Got there too late for Titus and by the comments here, I am regretting it more now.

His new album sounds fast and loud.

I too was wearing my Scar-Face shirt and we in fact met.
I was blown away by Titus Andronicus. My friend who went with me to the AS220 show said at one point he thought they were playing a cover of "At The Hop" by Danny & The Juniors, but he knew they weren't. I heard what I thought might be a sped-up version of "Rudies Can't Fail" but I knew that it wasn't and a song that reminded me of "Cast Of Thousands" by The Boys, and yet was completely different. The familiar and the new in mortal combat using sound as their weapons, or something like that. And the kinda-J Mascis-esque guitar work was face-melting. The album is great but the live show is even better.

I should mention, the dude playing bass for Titus Andronicus is named Liam. He records under the name Liam the Younger and has a song on the new Underwater Peoples compilation Summertime Showcase 2009, which is absolutely killer. That and he's only 19. I feel so unaccomplished.
And apparently the Providence ladies love Liam. I saw him get accosted after their set by two alcohol-imbibed ladies, who kept stumbling into my wife during the set. Ew bouy.

And the new TL/Rx songs are fantastic, as were the old ones, as were The Pharmacists. Another friend who was at the AS200 show said there was a 10 year old standing next to her completely rocking out, but with his face in his hands. I said that he was just keeping it from falling off or melting because it was getting rocked so hard. Obviously.
AS220 is exactly as it was described. It is also hot as hell and stifling when it is packed.

Awesome show, great job.
Titus Andronicus were also very good.
There was a new song that Ted played where he says something about heroes dying in the chorus which I predict will be Ted Leo's next smash hit.

FYI: I did an interview with Titus Andronicus before the show, and it's airing tonight, at about 11pm EST, the second half of my radio show. Check it out at http://whus.org if you're into them. There was also a special appearance by Ted Leo during it.

At the moment no. I need to convert the .wavs to mp3s. Then, I need to find somewhere to host them and then I'll post them on my blog. I can probably e-mail the mp3s to you once I convert them though.
