Tom fills in for Evan Funk Davies.. .
I was wondering if anyone could confirm that Tom will indeed be filling in AND doing his regular time slot.

(fingers crossed)Mike show?
6 hours of mirth, music and mayhem would also rule.

Don't forget the Julie Zone.

Julie is so, so, so, so annoying. Julie and Stevie Blue get my vote for most annoying Best Show callers in the history of not only the Best Show, but radio.

Wow. Strong words. If by annoying you mean: dynamic, candid, and game changing I will agree with you.
And Stevie Blue---the guy isn't even around anymore. Frankly, I miss him.

You probably aren't even smart enough to know anything, you munch. I bet your IQ is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much lower than 83. And your name is stupid. Go jump under a bus.
-
you tell 'em, Julie
(except for that bus bit)
-

I love your subtle, Buckley-esque wit, Julie.
Julie, you have become one of my favorite callers. As someone who usually freezes like a deer in the headlights when I call, I am in awe of your ability to turn on a dime and go with Tom no matter where he steers the call.

Watch what you say there, pal. Julie has clout.

I wanted to make certain it was understandable.

wait, are we done talking about contact lenses and glasses?

Nope!

Good for you, Julie! Life's too short to pussyfoot around. Cut to the chase!
-
Anybody that wants to mess with Julie has to go through me first! Don't worry though, when it's all over I'll be sure to pick your teeth out of my shoe and send them to your mother.
-
i couldn't be more honored to have my enemy's teeth stuck in anyone else's shoe!
-
you are the BEST Julie! when re-listening to the podcasts your calls never fail to amuse and delight me over and over again.
-
This is going to be awesome. I have to figure out how to get my roommates out of the house so that I'm not tethered to my computer with a pair of headphones while they crank the TV too loud just to watch Judge Judy on DVR.
Best Show for LIFE!

Julie has mentioned Alf more than once over the last several weeks, and I for one, am looking forward to her digging a little deeper into her thoughts and feelings on not only Alf, but with Willie as well.

I have so far for the agenda:
Why you should consider making a good home for my cat Fluffy (he's free and up for grabs if you can pass the test)
Sandwiches
Perfect songs
Very deep thoughts about bodice rippers, ALF, Journey, and other things one shouldn't like but does
Mathematics
Hobbies
and if there is time, I will tell interesting stories about crazy people I know.
But who cares? I can't wait to hear 6 hours of TBS
-
im very excited for this, all of it. as for the julie hate, knock it off.

Dear Julie,
First, I love you.
Secondly, I hope your segment is on between 10:30 and 11:00 so that I can call in and talk about mathematics.
Stoked,
dfk

Submarine sandwiches. That is a natural segway for actual submarines, so please bring them up. Once I saw an alligator. Do you want a cat?
-
anybody know if all 6 hours will be podcasted, i sure hope so!

As I was typing the above, I couldn't help but imagine Willie as the antagonist in a submarine-themed thriller.... or romantic comedy.
Not Willie... just the dude who played "Willie".
-
we BETTER hear the return of Clem next week! :D
maybe Marty will pull an OCDJ and hide for the first 15 minutes of his show

Yeah, I ruined that thread with several poor attempts at humor. Sorry.

"Spencer Warthog" is not too shabby!
-
Thanks man. But I've realized my future doesn't lie in comedy. I'm probably better suited to cut lawns or to become a stadium usher.
-
So excited for the Julie Show.

A Reuben On Rye has got to be God's gift to mankind.
Perfect song? Sailing by Christopher Cross.
WTF, bodice rippers?! Screw that, I just cut out the fat and go straight to porn.
ALF and cats don't mix. Is that why your giving it away?
Journey's Open Arms is the best soft-rock ballad ever made.
I'm obsessed with watching old reruns of Hogan's Heroes. Bob Crane is a genius.
Calculus makes my brain hurt.
I like flashing little old ladies at bus stops.
I dearly love stories about crazy people. They make me laugh.
As a back-up in case you feel a flop-sweat coming on you ought to have your favorite liquor store clerk on as a guest.
Or just interview Spike again. That was comedy gold. I think I still have it on my ipod.
-
Do you think all six hours will be podcasted or archived? If I need to I can listen live, but I'd like to know before hand.

Are you sure that all that will fill your alloted twenty minutes??

The world needs ditch-diggers, too.

I'm sure they'll be archived at least.

I'm many time zones away from New Jersey and won't be able to stay up...I hope the whole 6 hour archive will be available!? Is there someone out there who knows about such things?
-
WFMU archives everything. I don't see why this would be any different.
-
Does this mean we'll get Wurster twice, hopefully? [crosses fingers]
I think it would be cool if Zach Galifianakis stopped by the studio. He does have a movie out to promote. When Tom asked him two shows ago if he was going to stop by he didn't say he couldn't.
Also Spike might be in-studio. But I don't think he's got da balls.
This is going to be a hoot. The great Art Bell has never done a 6 hour show. I think the longest he did is he occasionally would extend his show to 5 hours if he was blown away by his guest.
-

Not the Christmas 2007 episode. (I think that date is right)
It was very special and not podcasted or archived.

Mom??

I thought I detected some hesitance when Tom asked him to come on down.

Son??
Can't you call or write?
At least fax for chrissakes?
Your half brother just scored a big contract supplying port-a-potties for the up coming state fair. We're having a big celebration. I think we might have Mother 13 as the musical entertainment.
-
I like Julie both as a Best Show caller and as a person. And this is why:
Submarine sandwiches. That is a natural segway for actual submarines, so please bring them up. Once I saw an alligator. Do you want a cat?
Now, this is a person I can relate to.
If certain callers annoy you, just hum a little tune to yourself or go tidy up your kitchen for the duration of the call, for chrissakes. Your kitchen could probably use it.
-
Here, here. Julie = "top notch caller"
I also like Fredricks. Smooth, funny, quick. He can field anything Tom hits towards him. Not taking anything away from the other regulars. I aint got the guts to call.
Love Laurie's voice. Like a half bottle of Pinot and 2 Xanax. Velvet.

Tom.
Thanks, Tom. Much appreciated.

Julie, I love ya babe but your post counter reads "666" right now.
You've either gotta make it right with a priest or dress up like Marlyn Manson for the Julie Show.
Ever seen the movie, The Omen?
just kidding

I have a sudden urge to commit murder on my cat if you don't make a home for him.
-
Love Laurie's voice. Like a half bottle of Pinot and 2 Xanax. Velvet.
Whereas Spike's voice is like two and a half bottles of Afrin.
-
I guess I have to make a home for her.
I'm ready.
-
NOOOOOOOO!!! I just found out that my whole evening is being eaten up by auditions, celebrating a friends birthday, and supporting another friend who's doing stand-up. I'll be lucky if I can catch some of the second half :(
Forgive me Tom.
-
OK, I think I'll make my Best Show Debut if I can get a call in between 11 and 2.
SHOP 4 A COFFIN

after reading steve's post, i remembered that we have family coming into town for the little brother's graduation. theyll be arriving throughout the day, but undoubtedly ill be expected to make a cameo appearance.
given the time difference (shows starts at 5pm, when im driving home from work), i dont think ill be able to listen live...tartar sauce. i was daydreaming about calling into the julie show.

The 'December Wishes' epsiode? That is archived, as I listened to it over Xmas 2008. Tom talks about not archiving it though. It's a classic episode, certainly, and made me feel extra christmassy.

I stand corrected. It was a great episode. Ted Leo and the Best Show crew with Paul F. Tompkins calling in. Ted sings that Donkey Christmas song. Incredible.

Thanks, Tom. Much appreciated.
Thank you! I was looking for this info.

I'm sure that's for the best, unless you're part of the 'pocket-size racist' target audience they may be going for.
-
My life feels like it's headed for a trainwreck. I need to be The Alchemist (or at least emulate him). I need 6 hours of Best Show!!
-
I'm going to ask my porno friends to call in during the Mike Show segment.
-
"I've got talent."
"What, keepin' you're Sims characters alive?"
-
I was the kid from Boston who called saying that my friend's uncle is Steve Carell and my aunt knows Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman. LOL I don't even know why I said that on the radio, it's my first time so I was awkward.
-
You were fine. Congrats on yer first call!
-
Thanks and for the record: My aunt actually has met both Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman. My aunt works at the UN and she knows Angelina through some sort of ambassadorial thing. She knows Nicole through the filming of The Interpreter. My friend's actually the niece of Steve Carell. I live in his hometown so yea. My friend has the same last name too. If only I actually knew these people and got them to call Tom. Too bad it won't happen.
-
Yeah. Good call, vini.

ditto on the frowny face, steve. i didnt get to listen AT ALL (but had hopes of catching the later half) by the time i got home from work, i had already missed the julie show=DOUBLE FROWN.*
*maybe the julie show will come to gonerfest this year...?
-
the julie show was first rate and tom was great with her, there was some real chemistry there. i am saddened i was not able to get on the phone to talk to her, but then again she is a big shot.
-
Hopefully, this will not be the only Julie show we ever hear. She didn't even get a chance to touch on Alf in depth!

-
I am sleeeeeepy from last night, but it proved to be a superb time to listen to the show live for the first time in months. Let me just say: having done a two-hour radio show in college that often left me exhausted, my theoretical hat is off to Tom for not only pulling this stunt off but doing it whole-heartedly for six hours straight. Ain't no mean feat! Every Best Show from here on out is gonna feel a little too short, I fear.
-
I had the pleasure of listening to this one over the weekend.
Top notch, amazing show.
Good work Tom and everybody else involved.
-
So when I was listening to the Julie show I thought Julie was kind of a tyrant and I didn't like it, but then later on thinking about it it was my favorite part of the show. What's up with that?
-

What's up is that you possess passive sadistic tendencies.

I am so sorry I could not call, Julie, teaching summer school is ruining my summer, but the giant check I will receive in August will almost make up for it, especially when I use a large chunk of it to buy delicious sandwiches.
-
i immediately loved the julie show and felt terrible i couldnt call in when called out by the man herself.
-
At least you had a good excuse, Tito. I didn't.
-
Was there a real misunderstanding when (5/26) Tom said Julie would host "a sub talk show" ?
I was a little surprised the topic was in fact sandwiches
-

Good point, but I think you're underestimating the love for sandwiches.

I've never even eaten a sardine but Julie's show really made me want sardines.

your surprise is surprising. this is julie, we're talking about.
and i loved the topic.
-
I believe that when Tom said to Julie in the previous week "you will have a sub-show", he meant it in the way you might have a sub-topic, but Julie took it literally. If he had called it a micro-show, we probably would have wound up talking about beer.
-
Submarine Porn, perhaps?
I provided you with the link.
I didn't follow it.

No, sir, we would have talked about microshakes, the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. I don't know anything about beer and don't even like it! I'd be more likely to talk about submarines of the non-sandwich variety.
-

Well, since you brought up Subway the week before, I thought it was an interesting choice. Also, for some reason I like unpredictable hang-ups on the callers.

I stole that move from my favorite radio show host who doesn't hang up on enough people anymore.

No need for a contest. They killed it!

one of my favorites (especially live), but the top spot has stayed with Thee Oh Sees (returning to Gonerfest 6).
