Title: This looks great!
Post by: B_Buster on May 27, 2009, 11:10:51 AM
And if I'm not mistaken, it's the same music used for the chicken scene in Stroszek!

Nice to see they kept the humor aspect of the original alive. Oh, wait...

I just hope they keep the masturbating-on-the-car scene.

I posted this in another thread on this film:
"The only thing that I liked about the first film was the Mets game playing on Harvey Keitel's car radio. Won't be watching the second incarnation."

Although, I don't begrudge anyone for looking forward to the sequel. The first film just wasn't my cup of tea.

I look forward to Les Blank's Abel Ferrara Makes Werner Herzog Eat Schooly D's Boot and Then Barges Him.

For the record, other than focusing on a corrupt copper, this film has no relation to the original.  The words "Bad Lieutenant" are in the title because producer Edward Pressman is a grade-A munch.

I actually like Bad Lieutenant a lot. I haven't seen it in a couple years, though...maybe I'd have a different opinion now.

I'm kind of disappointed in this trailer. We all knew this movie would be funny, but it looks like they might have made it intentionally funny, which is considerably less appealing for me. Still, I'll see any movie where Nicolas Cage says "You don't have a lucky crack pipe?"

Is this the first "Now in Post-Production" in trailer history?

Exactly. The original was great; this will be a whole other kind of great. Of this I'm sure.

More like Sad Lieutenant.

Or bad-rugged lieutenant.

This is the format in which Nikki Cage shines.  It's going to be brilliant.

A friend just informed me that he went to grade school with the screenwriter of the first Bad Lieutenant:

Too bad she didn't stick around. She might have made a good subject for Intervention.

Sucks for Herzog, but I'm sure he had some say in the final casting decisions, right? So I don't feel too badly for him.

Based on this trailer alone I am almost ready to forgive Nick Cage for the last 15 years of his acting.

"his soul's still dancing"

Oh, how I wish Herzog had just stepped into frame and delivered this line himself.  Very promising trailer.

When I first saw the trailer I thought that it was Tim Roth playing the Bad Lieutenant. I had to do a double take.

There are about ten moments in this trailer that could be sampled to great effect over a dance beat.

Let's not go that far. But it does look great! He does drugged-out maniac pretty well...

This is the Nick Cage acting I like.  The one that's drugged out and/or mean to people.  I say BRING IT.

I am interested in the Director's commentary, if only to hear Herzog talk about Xzibhit.

I also appreciate that they bring up the "Academy Award winner" line after Cage is grabbing ass and smoking crack. "Remember? You guys gave him one for being drunk, so he deserves at least three for this performance!"

I also like that the guy's soul is not just dancing, it appears to be break dancing.

This. So great. Mark my words, this will be a fantastic film. THERE IS NO CHANCE THIS WILL BE A FAILURE.

A couple years from now, Tom should do for it what he did for Road House. It would be spectacular.

I was hoping this was the film they were shutting at the WFMU studio. I wonder what Mikes thoughts on this are someone needs to ask him on the next Mike show.

Herzog has another movie coming soon, MY SON MY SON, WHAT HAVE YE DONE (produced by David Lynch!), "the true story of a San Diego man who acts out a Sophocles play in his mind and kills his mother with a sword."   It looks like whoever edited this trailer had a slab of weirdness on their hands and was determined to make it look like a generic thriller.   There's a shot of an ostrich stealing Udo Kier's glasses though, so I'm excited:

SEH-vigh-nee. I never knew.

Also, "There's a shot of an ostrich stealing Udo Kier's glasses though, so I'm excited." is the best sentence I am going to hear all week.

Which makes me want to include ""Is the best sentence fragment I am going to hear all week" is the best sentence fragment I am going to hear all week", but I recall Tom banning meta a couple of years back.

I'm just excited any time Udo Kier turns up - an ostrich doesn't need to be stealing his glasses.

But it sure figures, don't it?
