I'm taking the LSAT tomorrow and strangely, I'm not nervous. I don't know if it's confidence or naivety that is steeling my nerves, but my stomach remains un-churned. The only thing I'm worried about is the section of analytical reasoning. That's the section where they give you a number of items (6 musicians), tell you that you have to order them or something along those lines, and then give you a bunch of restrictions on that (musician 1 can't play before musician 3, etc). I can get correct answers, just not at the speed of the other sections. And a few I've come across I've just been completely flabbergasted.
Then after LSATs comes the law school application process.
Any FOTs in the legal profession? Any experiences about LSATs or law schools you care to share? Any advice?

The logic games section is a pain in the ass just because it varies in difficulty, for me at least. I either did really well on practice exams or bombed them. I ended up doing mediocre on that section on the real test. Some logic games are easy for me, the rest not. I think it's just how you're wired, so don't worry about it; it's out of your hands. I mean, do your best, but a wonderful part of the law school process is learning that your best ain't always enough.
The rest is ridiculously easy.
I have no law school application advice. I went to the cheap state school already located where I lived. It worked out well for me coincidentally, in that there where a few professors whose interests were right up my alley (telecommunications policy, IP reform). The key to success in law school is to give professors exactly what they want. Even better, take courses by professors who want what you can give. Some professors like short, concise exam answers that are well organized, others want you to mentioned every possible issue. Etc.
I just finished school. I'm studying for the bar right now. What a load of boring.

Hope it went well! Good luck in your application process. I wish I had some advice, but nothin' really. I also went to my state school for money reasons.

I know you're talking about LSATs, but I literally fell asleep during my SAT.
What did I get on the test?
Drool.
But seriously, I did fall asleep. I scored in the 70-somethingth percentile which was a huge disappointment for my mommy. Luckily I had no ambition so it didn't really matter.

You are allowed to re-take it. Is there a TAT? (Thespians Aptitude Test) "Pretend you are a strip of bacon sizzling in your own juices when the cook drops an egg on you".

i didn't need to retake it cuz I got a 30 on the ACT. Boom. And I went to Mizzou.

Thanks for all the well-wishes!
The test went okay. The section that I was worried about, I felt like it was super hard. In general I felt like the test was harder than any of the practice tests I went through. But I'm a pretty horrible judge of how I perform on tests. I know I screwed up the conditional portion (ugh, I never want to see mauve, red, green, and blue colored toy dinosaurs AGAIN!). We'll see.
Yeah, my plan is a state school as well. I'm already under a mountain of debt.
Thanks again for everyone's input.

I hope that you did well. The LSAT's are one reason why I chose not go to law school. But even if you didn't do well, you can always take it again.
Good luck.

Confidence is a great thing. Go get 'em, woodandiron!
(Although, looking at the clock, you really shouldn't be reading this now, you should be asleep.)
Best wishes!

Congratulations on getting through the LSAT. I bombed it the first time. I studied really hard and brought my score up considerably the second time. My study method was to take as many timed practice tests as possible. I saw my most improvement in the logic games section. I actually grew to like the games.
I went to the best school that would have me and offer me scholarship money. I still got a mountain of debt, but it beats where I was 3 years ago (dead-end job).
I just graduated and am studying for the bar as well. Bleh.
Good luck!

An update:
I just received my score via email and the number is 159 (on a scale of 120 to 180). That is the 78% percentile. I'm pretty happy with that, honestly. I was shooting for 160 or above but that'll do. I just did a quick check on a bunch of law school websites where I'll be applying and that score seems to be right around the median of their latest incoming class. So yeah, pretty happy with it. Relieved, one might even say.
I'd like to thank everyone for their kinds words on this forum.

nice work, mate - that's better than i scored back in the day.

Thanks, Samir.
Do you have a job lined up for after the bar or are you facing the dreaded job market?
How is the bar exam studying going?
-
Late to this thread too.
I am in the legal profession. I have little advice concerning the awful job market now. The LSAT, the bar, the process, well I may have something useful to offer.
Good job on your results.

Sorry to bump up a really dead topic but I'm busting with pride and need to share to the FOTs.
I just got the email today and I got into law school! Widener University School of Law! It's the first of the three I applied to that I've heard back from, and it's not exactly my first choice but holy hell, at any rate, I'm in law school come the fall!

Congratulations!

Congratulations!
Thanks!

Congrats! And good luck in law school.
One word of advice: make sure you BACK UP all the writing assignments from your first year classes. I didn't, and then my computer was stolen. Most employers want writing samples, and it left me in trouble.
If you ever need more wisdom, there's a fair few FOT who've got JDs, and most are probably more qualified than I am to dispense advice.
-
Save all your personal documents on Dropbox. Boom, backed up as you go. Boom, synced across devices.
Oh, the type A dickheads you'll meet in law school. Good luck!
-
Thanks Samir and Yesno!
I'm pretty good with backing up all my stuff on external hard drives and the like.
Samir, how did you get around the lack of writing samples?
And yeah, after having been in a PharmD program for three years, I'm well acquainted with the type A douchebag I'll probably encounter in law school. Right after a test, I don't want to talk about my answers for half an hour. I want to veg out. Please don't make me think about what I put for number 5.
It's kind of unusual there are so many people that are into The Best Show and have advanced degrees. Or maybe not unusual at all.
The Best Show on WFMU: where all the eggheads get their laughs!
-
Congrats! I echo Samir's advice. I had my hard drive fail on me more than once while in law school.
My advice: keep listening to the Best Show. I'm so thankful I discovered the Best Show while in law school. The Best Show provided much needed laughter during some stressful times.
Good luck!

Congrats! I don't get my undergraduate for another 3 semesters, but I'm going to start studying for it this summer.

Is that anything like the THCs?
all Wu-Tang jokes aside congratulations.
