Title: Top Chef Masters.
Post by: Omar on June 11, 2009, 07:51:35 AM
Let's do this.

Fun trivia from last night: that hardass redhead was just cast in Trent L. Strauss's Junior Girl Scout Serial Killer: Samoan Nightmare.

It's a Top Chef/He-Man crossover show on Adult Swim.  Colicchio was great as Ram-Man last night.

Did someone declaw Gael last night? That's not the bitch I've come to know and fear.

I enjoyed seeing these razzle-dazzle chefs humbled.  But then I was in a bad mood yesterday.

For the second week in a row, I was certain the winner of the quickfire would end up taking the competition.  It's interesting that both winners so far have won so resoundingly.

I was surprised to learn that Wylie Dufresne is such a panicky, emotional fellow in the kitchen.

this show sucks dick.  who cares which chef can cook the best in a dorm room with a bunch of stupid restrictions.  save that shit for the quick fire.

I guess they think the contestants are so accomplished that without those stupid restrictions there'd be no competition, since everything would just be wonderful.

I'm guessing that the final episode will just be straight cooking.  I like that it cuts out all the boring drama they sometimes try to work into some episodes.

After watching the first episode I didn't care much for any of the judges or Kelly Choi, although I'm not expecting any of them to be too critical since these are all respected professionals playing for charity so I'm sure they don't want anyone to look too bad.

Brian K. Vaughan looked totally adorable, no?

The judges are uninteresting.  Kelly Choi is a boob.  The show stands or falls with the chefs.

So far, it reminds me most of the English show The Great British Menu.

Why isn't Kelly Choi rocking the leather trenchcoat from "Secrets of New York?"  I was so dissappointed to see she has left the confines of NYCTV.

Top Chef Masters! Season two! First episode aired the other day. Anyone see it?

I didn't care for: the host, the editing (not as sloppy as in the regular show, but sloppy enough to be really annoying), the judges (all of which are back from season one: the 100-year-old lady with the hats (indoors!) and the clapping teeth that warbles her speech and you kinda suspect will fall out of her skull at any moment; the guy from Saveur magazine who's almost a charicature of a bitchy critic with his clearly-fake, clearly-preplanned "spur-of-the-moment" oneliners (much like Toby Young in the reg show); and the English dude who should get a haircut, stat), most of the silly challenges the chefs are forced to take on
I did care for: the chefs.

So, nothing's changed, really. I do enjoy the show.

I found Kelly Choi less objectionable this time around.  I don't know whether I've mellowed or it's due to her new hairstyle.

I was glad that arrogant dreadlocked fellow lost and sort of glad the geezers won.
