Title: Ironman or Supreme Clientele?
Post by: MattB on July 05, 2009, 02:07:19 PM
Hi Tom and friends thereof,

Tom, I know you're a Ghostface fan.  And yeah, I know I should have them both already.  But if you had to pick one over the other, which would you go with?

Supreme Clientele, although I'll take Fishscale over both of them.

Big Doe Rehab was not so hot and I heard he blew at the Primavera Festival so who knows what Ghostdini has up his sleeve?

Tom.

OK, OK, I went with Supreme Clientele.  Have listened to it a couple of times.

Personally, I like it more than Fishscale at the moment. As much as I like that album, I also find it kind of exhausting: Ghost just goes so hard for so much of it that I feel a little like I got my ass kicked 3/4ths of the way into it.  Clientele doesn't get all up in my face quite as much.  I can handle it on the bus on the way to work in the mornings.  Oh, and I got Cuban Links, too, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

The takeaway lesson here, I think, is GHOSTFACE RAPS GOOD.

I like Cuban Linx b/c the interplay between Rae and Ghost works well. I like Raekwon but when he did that solo album too much of the follow-the-bouncing-ball rhymes got to be tedious.

Big Doe Rehab doesn't sound as tough as his previous releases but that song with the Rare Earth sample is pretty catchy. I am entirely dedicated to the Pretty Toney Album, heavy stuff!

Any thoughts on Ghost's upcoming R+B album, The Wizard of Poetry?  Only have heard the "Forever" single so far. (http://2dopeboyz.okayplayer.com/2009/06/03/ghostface-killah-forever/).  Sounds like an interesting project for GFK, but I dunno man.  We are talking about the guy who released Ironman now putting out an R+B album.

Anyone know what became of that DOOM/Ghostface collaboration record?

The problem is that Ghostface started putting out stuff too fast. The quality was higher when he took years to between albums. I believe that explains the sub-standard quality of More Fish (Only track I like on that one is "Miguel Sanchez") and Big Doe Rehab.

As Tom said when I mentioned that on the air: "Slow down, Ghostface."

I want him to take a break for four years and come back with an album that burns my eyebrows off.

The opening skit of "Ghost Is Back" cracks me up every time. The sample is insane too.  Fine, you're right, that track is pretty sweet.

I'm pretty sure that's never going to happen. Especially considering the fact the one song that was leaked years ago that was rumored to be on said collaboration is now on DOOM's latest CD.

I have to say, I'm pretty excited for Cuban Linx II, which got moved back from August to September. The first single is already out and is pretty great.

According to Ghostface, the hold-up is on Doom's part.

The second single House of Flying Daggers (produced by J Dilla) just dropped and is pretty great.  Im not sure the board's rules regarding mp3 posts and I couldn't find it on youtube so I'll let all curious W(FM)U Gambinos find it on their own.

Man, Dilla produces more stuff from beyond the grave than when he was alive.

He's like 2Pac and Jimi Hendrix that way.

i hate how mf doom recycles his beats, like he did for all of the wu-tang tracks he produced. i feel the same to a lesser extent regarding the jdilla tracks on fishscale being stripped from the donuts beat tape. i do, however, love this doom-produced unreleased gem from that ghostface album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXyppkxL5oc
