Here's my FOT Mixtape idea.
We get a list of people who want in and I'll arrange them in a random order.
I'll go first and send an mp3 to the first person on the list, they then select an mp3 to follow on and send it to me, I then send that mp3 to the next person on the list and so on. Nobody will know what the end mix will be like as each participant will only know the name of two tracks.
When its all finished I'll make the whole thing available for downloading with artwork.
Discuss your picks if you want but don't name them on the board, that would ruin the surprise of the end product, its like audio consequences.

I want in!
-
Me 2!
-
The whole thing sort of a-scares me 'cause I'm so unhep, but what the hell . . . I'm in.
-
count me in
-
Sure
-
I'm game.
It might also be fun to do a monthly secret mix-tape/CD trade. Or bi-monthly, if y'all are lazy. If Jason doesn't want to head it, I'll gladly take control if there are enough people interested in participating.

I'd be into that, Laurie. It's funny because this plot sort of reminds me of when my friends and I used to make group mixtapes in college, which was in Southern, mellow (aside from rape and homicide) Baltimore. We would just go around the room and people would sort of try and top one another but it was all in good fun. I told my New York brother about this and when I moved to New York he had developed it into this highly competitive "Survivor" style thing where people voted each other off the tape! I would get so infuriated and drunk during these mixtape parties that I actually ended up throwing cookies at the wall one time and storming out in a rage because I put on a Jim O'Rourke song and my brother accused me of being passive aggressive and "not playing to win". Like I don't know, I was supposed to put on "Born To Run" or something.
-
I'm in.
-
ok!
-
Sounds fun, if I understand it right. Count me in too.
-
in.
Would you guys say you're more into Billy Ray Cyrus or Garth Brooks?
-
Yes.
-
Anything to do with mix tapes I am interested in.
-
indeed yes.
-
Fuck yes.
-
Ok.
I think that's enough people.
You can add your name as a waiting list if you want but everyone will be able to download the end result.
-
Would it be in bad taste to submit a Tom Waits song?

Yes, I'll want to download this!
-
a little late to chime in.. but count me in maybe for the next round.
-
Count me in for the next one as well.
-
I just realised this is going to take forvever.

I just realised this is going to take forvever.
I liked the idea so much I organized one on another forum. it's not too bad, as long as people reply to you quickly and they have an e-mail system that doesn't bounce the mp3 attachment (gmail works well for this).
-
Well I've mangaged to solicit two tracks in six days so far. At this rate with 19 people we can expect to see a result in 57 days, around the the middle of April.
I know it's hard to think ahead especially when we're trying to achieve some flow from the preceding track but do try and get back to me as quick as you can.
Work with me people, work with me!

heh. same thing is happening on my mixtape. 4 days, 2 people have replied.
-
Count me in.
-
I have to wait for Brucey Darling to stop slacking and send in an mp3 to you before I can do anything, correct?
-
I'm waiting with baited breath to receive specific, personal instruction.
-
I can promise a quick turnaround. I'm compulsive that way.

Word.

I sent Jason an mp3 already through AIM so there

Which is technically against the rules, however if this is the new FOT feud we've all been waiting for then I'm all for it.
-
My song is in.
Love,
ME
-
Laurie vs. Bruce: there can be only one.
P.S. I just sent in my song.
-
I'm following the rules; therefore, I win.
Also, I'm going to attempt to submit a song that sounds good with Bruce's choice, even though he obviously made no effort to do so. You were supposed to wait for Jason to send you Jed's mp3, smartypants!
Ruining things since 1969, indeed!
-
Actually I randomized the list of participants, it also includes people whom PMed me and a few special guests.
-
I stand corrected. Correction: I sit corrected.
Nonetheless, you're supposed to wait for Jason to contact you with an mp3. That way you can provide a song that effortlessly transitions from "Porcupine Pie" or "Way Down in the Hole" or the "Mr. Belvedere" theme song.
-
So I'm just waiting for an e-mail from Jason? I already have an mp3 picked out.
-
Yeah, I was going to email everyone with a copy of the mp3 that the preceding participant had provided.
However if you're the stubborn, pig-headed, obdurate, uncooperative, mulish, contrarian oaf that Laurie seems to think Bruce is, then go ahead and send it to me now.
-
Flattery will get you nowhere with me Jason
-
I tried to make my song work a little with the previous song. I don't know if I was successful.
Is it going to tell us which song people sent in?
-
I tried to send jason something yesterday. Hopefully it worked.
-
damn! way late to the party, as usual...i've been somewhat mixtape obsessed for some time now, and have wondered about making some kind of online exchange thing happen.
Not sure i'd be all that fussed about the original list put together, with everyone submitting one track. I feel like there's gotta be some back and forth, some tet a tet, some mano a mano...uh, yeah. Maybe a 4 or 5 way would be about right.
So, if whoever it was that got a splintered off thing started still has some momentum going and it's not too late, please send a message my way and i'd happily join in. Or maybe someone wants to start a new one up.
thanks!

i did my part. i was following my own mixtape rule #1: continuity is key, in not picking out a song until i heard what it would follow. but i did have a few different ones picked out that i thought i might use and none of them worked with the gem that i was sent. i had to frantically review my entire itunes library and ended up going for something kind of generic, a great song but nothing new really. geez. so much pressure. i hope everyone likes it. love me.

See, I would've done the same thing. You know, if SOMEONE HADN'T RUINED IT FOR EVERYONE. Jerkface.

Sticks and Stones Laurie
-
I too had to scrap my original choice as it clearly wasn't going to fit in. Maybe I'll save it for the FOT box set.
-
Well to tide everyone over till Jason finishes up the mix tape. Jason is working very hard on it so to give him a little breathing room I whipped up a little hour of power for all to enjoy.
Will you like everything on it who knows. But I will promise one thing it's varied.
You will have to down load it to see the songs. But I will say everything on it is just from my mp3's nothing from my vast bootleg collection. So don't worry there is no twenty minute Neil Young & Crazy Horse jam on it.
But the last track is for Stevie Blue & Capt. Jack the delusional twins

I love it! and how do we know who contributed which songs?
-
I believe Bruce contributed all of them.
-
the anticipation is getting to me.
-
We're at track 10.
I'll take partial blame for binge drinking at the weekend.
-
When I tried to download Bruce's mix, I got this message: The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable.
-
When am I going to be able to give the hookup.
-
Re-uploaded on a different site
