No show tonight, people. Move along.
-
Out of town last week, no show this week...I need my fix!
-
NOW what am I supposed to do after work!? Excercise!? Now I have no excuse. Rats.
-
Thanks for posting this, especially as WFMU has yet to update their schedule with the news.
-
What I want to know is how the ruotsi got this news before we red-blooded Americans did.
-
I guess this will let me concentrate better during the online Jeopardy try out.
-
No show tonight, people.

I refuse to believe it until officially announced on wfmu.org or @shcarpling.
-
It could be a plot on Martin's part to get the chat to himself for some reason.
-
Wake up, sheeple.
-
I knew, but I just like watching people twist in the wind.
-

I'm confused.
-
I dunno, but @scharpling twittered about it the other day....
-

Time difference, duh.
-
How dare you. "Duh," indeed.
Besides, there's many a night owl among the FOT; for them, the time difference would be meaningless.
-
Does this mean I don't have to go out on that radio date?
-
Does this mean I don't have to go out on that radio date?
it means that Lawrence will need to make another sandwich.
-
My 2-year-old has asked for The Best Show repeatedly tonight. Frowny face.
-

20's slang is the new thing on the Mike show.
-
I am very sad.
-
Does anybody know what one of those first couple of songs played was? She said the title was "What Woman Want" but i didnt hear who it was by.

I was finally going to call in for the first time in 5 years tonight! Argh.
It was off topic anyhow.
Remember 2 weeks ago they were talking about long movie titles? In Japan the titles use to be rewritten in Japanese, but recently they have just used the English title. Sometimes the titles are too long so "No Country for Old Men" became "No Country". Both titles don't make sense to the average non-English speaking Japanese so it's merely an identifier for the film. Anyhow "Up" is coming out in a few weeks here. One of the shortest titles ever. What's its title in Japanese?
Carl Jisan No Soratobu Ie
カールじいさんの空飛び家
Grandpa Carl's flying house.
Probably better that I didn't call :p
-
My remedy was to listen to the Halloween show from 2006. I pretended it was live and real. W!

Hah, I did something similar ... I listened to the Petey's birthday show. I think I have a crush on Petey.
-
I hope none of you will ever doubt me again.
-
I hope none of you will ever doubt me again.
I never doubted you for a second, Martin.
Okay. Maybe I did.
-
Looks like I'll have to wait another week to see how this radio date drama unfolds.

i think you would've gotten a thumbs up.

I never did. I was just raising Cain (I have never used that expression before).

I did for a second... but it was in the spirit of wishful thinking.
Mostly.

You shouldn't speak ill of us like that.

Nice thanks. They usually dont do a playlist when someone fills in.
-
What's the word for tomorrow, Martin? Will it be Jersey City or Dodger Stadium for Mr. S.?
-
Yes, Mr. Insider. Please let us know.
-
No insight, only speculation. If Tom gets some sleep on the flight back from Weirdowood I'd say there's a good chance of a show.
-
awesome
-
Update: no show tonight.
-
Oh well. I'll just find another archive show to listen to and pretend that it's live.
-
Two in a row! :( I will fight through this week again because next week will be glorious.
-
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
-
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
-
Update: no show tonight.
This is a lie.
-
im bummed myself. however, dont forget that GeeOff has put together a FOTCAST that features FOT-selected tracks. granted, it's only one hour, but its a good listen.
do your part. also, we miss you, Tom.
-
Therese is great, but I wish Mike were filling in for Tom tonight.
-
You're on thin ice, Martin.
-
Therese is great, but I wish Mike were filling in for Tom tonight.
Therese was kind enough to ask if I would join her, so I'll be joining her in the studio.

I always thought her name was spelled "Turrez." Shows what I know.
Mike, Therese, I look forward to your hijinks.
Tom, get your rest, brotha!
-
neat
edit: about Mike and Therese, not the lack of Mr. Scharpling.
-

Now we're talking.
-
I will tune in for a Therese/Mike show anytime.
Get some rest Tom, we look forward to having you back soon.
-
You're on thin ice, Martin.
Why.
-
Bless Tom, and I'm so grateful to him for all the hours of fun. I'm not saying this to any way criticize Tom's need for a break. But, man, was I looking forward to the show tonight. Since Friday, my world has revolved around comforting the family of/planning the funeral of a thirty-four-year-old man killed in an industrial accident, leaving behind two very young children. What is Therese's show like? Will all ya'll be in the chat?
-
Therese usually plays music, which i always enjoy. i never listen live so i dont knwo how the chat works on non-Tom nites.

I'll be listening and peeking into the chat while I'm working, plus I'll be on Twitter throughout if you need some encouragement and/or chatter.
-
NO TOM AND NO BEST SHOW MAKE KEVIN more eager for next week's show and otherwise normal.
-
You're on thin ice, Martin.
Why.
Oh, you know, just shooting the messenger.
-
I think Toms playing hooky. Therese said hes not feeling good but his Twitter sounds like hes having the time of his life.
-
argh!! worst :(
feel better Tom.
-
Great. That's two weeks straight I skipped dining out at Pizza Hut for nothing. To think I could be eating a bacon mac n' cheese bread bowl this very minute. It isn't fair.
-
Life is hard. ::)
-
Man just from what I know, which is just from this board
Tom does A LOT of stuff man.
Crazy work ethic, glad he's taking a breather.
I'm surprised he doesn't take a month off each year.
-
knowing that AP Mike was there made it feel like the show was half there (because honestly, i enjoy it when Therese steps in for a nite). it helped tide me over for another week.
-
When was the talking? Just interspersed, or was there a significant chunk at some particular time?
-
Yes, after like 45 minutes.
-
Listen to it, an instant classic!: http://wfmu.org/playlists/TQ
-
Therese is truly a sweetie-pie. And childhood traumas was a great topic.
-
P.S. I wonder if Therese will now have a taste for taking calls. I think she and Mike should have a regular show. They complement each other beautifully.
-
That really was a great topic: Injuries, embarrassment, fright, hidden secrets. I came VERY close to calling in myself.
-

"The Best Fill-in Show on WFMU"?
-

once she figures out how to work that monster. EFD took a call once on his show (interview) and had to read the manual on air as well. its very endearing to hear the DJs make those kind of steps.

"The Best Fill-in Show on WFMU"?
I love this idea! It would be like one of those magical curio shops that sells monkeys paws. It only appears when a DJ falls ill, curses everyone in the town, then vanishes the next week.
-
"She never made the mushrooms like... touch me?"
-
WHAT does "No Show" mean?
Exactly
-
"She never made the mushrooms like... touch me?"
Oof, that was one violent fear. Poor guy.
-
Since I very rarely am up to listen to the show live (it starts here at 4 a.m.), I usually listen to the podcast or if I'm feeling a bit low during the week I stream from the archive.
This week I kept myself away from the archive all week only to find out that this is the second week in a row without Best Show.
Have you ever taken an "Are You Depressed?" quiz?
Colors less vibrant, check.
Things less funny than they normally seem, check.
Despondency?
Feelings of hopelessness....? well, that depends on NEXT Tuesday. I think I might even have to tune in live, just to make sure the sun will rise on Wednesday.
-
I finally finished listening to the September 1st show, which is awesome - as depressing as it is listening to childhood trauma after childhood trauma, I feel closer to the Best Show listenership because I can relate to many of the stories - like the mushroom guy, I too have a phobia (spiders) which started when I was 4 digging in my backyard, and people have chased me around with spiders and stuff like that - which is just the cruelest thing you can do. And Fredericks - My dad swings at people who wake him up too!
I'm pretty psyched about the return of the Therese (spelling?) and Mike show. The dark side of The Best Show.
-
Safe Words, with Mike and Therese.
-
Safe Words, with Mike and Therese.
That will make for very compelling radio.

It's TeRREZZZ ... forget spelling, Cat-head.
DUCK!
