Title: acrowars
Post by: Sarah on February 14, 2007, 10:59:40 AM
So, those of you who were in the chat last night are aware that many of us deserted to play this evil game (http://www.acrowars.com/FOT).  It is far too distracting to play during the show, however, so a few of us thought it might be a kick to set up another time to chase this particular dragon.  Anyone interested?  Be warned:  it will consume time.  And may disturb your sleep:  last night, my dreams were frequently interrupted by random letters popping up on my internal screen, after which I would frantically attempt to use them as the initials in some entertaining phrase.  I am soooo tired this morning (and, yes, I am a tad crazy . . . why?).

6pm tonight WFMU time?
During 7SD.
You can still play or practice with a bunch of morons in the main room at www.acrowars.com but don't get mixed up, if we arrange a game we will be in a seperate FOT room at www.acrowars.com/fot

WFMU time!  I don't like it . . . (etc.).

And, sure, 6 pm sounds fine, as long as a few others join in.  A game just between the two of us would probably be a little pointless (except for the practice, I suppose).  Besides, you'd still win, damn it.

I want to know who Corey is!  I'm guessing Chris L. or Omar.

I don't know who Corey was, but I was playing as Cori last night.

Who's the Slim Jim guy? Is it Randy Savage? Isn't he dead? Or is it Miss Elizabeth who died? Or did both of them die?

I'm pretty sure it just broke, unless that was just me.

I just played a few rounds in the main lobby.  A couple of funny submissions, a few more grammatical ones, but otherwise a whole lot of racist, sexist, predictbly raunchy, unfunny trash, accompanied by some rather mean chatting.  To top everything off, one troll made the site crash for me.

Made me miss the FOT room a whole bunch.

Yea, plus there have been lots of trolls "flooding" the chat and freezing the game the past 3-4 days. It seems to be a fairly common nuisance. I'd be up for a fot game if anyone else is.

How's about this Friday (3/2) at 4:30 p.m. EST, lads and lasses?  Three of us are in so far, but more would be better.

I've really gotten into this geography game (http://geosense.net/). Anyone else played?

New FOT-friendly URL -

http://www.friendsoftom.com/acrowars

The old url will work for the same room.

I played a great non-lobby game the other day with topics. Winner sets the topic by typing /topic your topic here

I set the FOT game to do this. If you want to turn it off I made Zazie moderator. Click the spanner in the top right corner to modify the game.

(Thanks Moonshake and Megan).

The geography game is fun as hell, acru.  Let's play during a music break on Tuesday, perhaps!

I will also hopefully remember to play acrowars tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 6.

Will somebody please explain this to me?  How do you play?  What do you do?  Etc.?
Thanks!

I was just going about to post here when I saw your request popped up, TL, so the timing is perfect.

The game is simple:  a series of letters appears on the screen--say, GOMP--and each player has to come up with a sentence/phrase in which the first letter of each word matches the set of letters (in the same order)--in this case, obviously, every FOT would enter "Get off my phone."  One has sixty seconds to think up a phrase, then everyone votes for the one s/he prefers.  If you don't vote, votes for your submission are not counted.  After ten rounds, the two best players (or more, if there's a tie) compete in a face-off round, and a winner is declared.  And victory is sweet, I tell you.

Now to the reason I was going to post in the first place: Jason, how about embedding the game here?  Worth it, do you think?

Oh, and thanks for honoring me with moderator status.  Though all this responsibility is going to be the death of me.

Thanks Sarah - sounds like fun.  Do you just "show up" and start playing with whoever's there?

Well, you can do that in the main lobby, which is usually quite crowded.  The FOT room is usually vacant unless we arrange a time, hence my attempts to set dates here.

Say, if there isn't a show next week--and I bet there won't be--anyone want to pick a time to acro?  It would be a pleasant novelty to play when not exhausted.

Bah, it would take more than losing to you twice in a row to shake me, mister.  You know I'm still your better overall.

Let's see if more people are interested in doing this:  we need at least five for it to be fun.

I'm taking my iMac into the Apple store today. If the so-called Geniuses can figure out what's causing my computer's sleep disturbances by next Tuesday, you can count me in.

That's four, if the geniuses do right by Laurie.  Shall we say 8 p.m. next Tuesday?  If there's a show after all, we can just wait till 11 as usual.

How to play: There are ten rounds to a game. At the beginning of each round, you are prompted with a group of random letters (example from the acro site: KBOG). The goal is to use those letters in sequence as the initials in a sentence (or phrase or sometimes merely a mish-mash of words if you're uninspired; the example on the acro site is "Killer Beetle Overthrows Government"). After sixty seconds, all the acros that were successfully submitted are displayed. You then vote for the acro you like best (not your own). You must vote to win points.  For each vote you get, you get a point.  At the end of ten rounds, the two players with the most points (or more, if there's been a tie) have a face-off round (same rules apply as before). After the face-off round, the person with the most total votes wins that game.

you forgot to mention that you get extra points if you refer, either explicitly or obliquely, to "having a giant  member."

With all this talk about an member's only FOT board, secret handshakes, etc., I thought it best to do my part to bring equality and justice to the world board.
