Title: THUHHHHHHHHHH!
Post by: thom on August 30, 2009, 03:45:10 PM
Where does Tom's brilliant and triumphant "THE" sample come from?

The contemptible John Sterling.

How about his broadcasting partner, Suzyn Waldman?

I love sports.  Love em.  But sometimes I think that if sinkholes opened up across the US and swallowed every stadium, we'd all be better off.

Nah, we'd find something even stupider.  Never mind.

Suzyn should definitely get a whack to the ankle for what she said and how she said it, though.

His inclusion in The Best Show theme songs over the years is the one, solitary thing I like about John Sterling... or the Yankees for that matter.  He's famous for his cringe inducing home run calls (an exceptionally embarrassing example (http://is.gd/2JjyY) is the time he mistakenly said 'It's an A-Bomb!' when Hideki Matsui hit a home run). One thing that most people don't know about Sterling is that he broadcasts almost the entire game with one hand held up to his ear, looking almost as pompous as he sounds.  Here's what it looks like when he warbles for a win:

I feel the same as you, buffcoat. I spend most of my day listening to sports radio. I watch games regularly. I'm inundated with sports. But I also sometimes wonder if we'd be better off without sports. Think about the billions upon billions of dollars that have been spent to build stadiums. What if that money went to our perpetually underfunded libraries, police and fire departments, and cultural programs? Wouldn't we all be better off? Would I be better off if I got back all the money I've spent on sports apparel? Probably.

But I realize that I need sports because I enjoy mindless entertainment. Most of us do. That's why we spend huge amounts of money on tickets, apparel, etc. If sports were to go away, I wouldn't enjoy life as much.

I need to seek professional help.

TRG, cutting sports talk radio out of your daily life will improve it significantly.

This is true.  We just go a new, slightly smarter sports station here in Boston, so I'm weening myself off of WEEI, WFAN and  Sports Radio in general with 'The Sports Hub' like a heroin addict uses methadone.

I just watch PTI.  That way I can skim the surface without getting caught in the waves.
