Title: Patton Oswalt also in the new Soderbergh film The Informant
Post by: Joe Rogaine on September 01, 2009, 06:51:47 PM
"Arrested Development" star Tony Hale is also in the film and according to IMDB, Patton Oswalt and Melanie Lynskey also have roles. "I didn’t do that many days on it," Oswalt told Movieline recently. "I’m just one of the gallery of incredulous faces that deals with Matt Damon as he goes crazier and crazier. But getting to watch Steven Soderbergh work and how he sets up shots and stuff was fascinating to me. The guy’s a pro. I don’t even think he’s an auteur; I think he’s a fucking pro. He comes in, and he’s calm, and he knows. That what’s so great about him."

If I'm not mistaken this film also has PFT and Andy Daly.

Saw it tonight.  Patton, PFT, and Mr. Daly all have small roles but they were fun.  I don't remember the last time I enjoyed Matt Damon this much.  It's a fun film - it's basically The Insider done with an Ocean's 11 sensibility.

This is one of the most enjoyable movies of the year.   Really liked Damon's non-sequitur voiceovers and the way Soderbergh made the 90's look retro-70's ugly.

There's very little funnier to me in the world than when a character has an insane, unsustainable plan and then refuses to let it die. I loved this movie. I wasn't familiar with the story, and at the very beginning we see one lie and I was disappointed, thinking that the plot twists werre being telegraphed that early. And then, just when I thought I was being led around by the nose, they just bolted away and I spent the rest of the movie trying to keep up.

Seeing Patton, Andy, Paul, and the multiple other awesome people thrown in for cameos was such a happy part of that movie. Paul was really sadly underused, but Patton Oswalt had a decent amount of screen time and played his part as a bit of a spectator in a way that not many other actors did, and I liked how it really added to the last part of the film, when the movie is spinning around so fast that the bolts are flying off.

I loved this, especially Damon's voice-over. It's the concept of the unreliable narrator taken to absurd lengths.

In addition to the cameos already mentioned, I was glad to see Thomas Wilson (Biff!) and Clancy Brown show up.

I enjoyed the hell out of this movie.  The absolute best part for me was Joel McHale's facial expressions, specifically in the chinese restaurant.  That stunned angry disbelief was just incredible.

I'm glad to hear people are enjoying this movie. I liked it quite a bit but the first review I heard was on the Filmspotting podcast, and they gave it a bad review, saying things like, "I found myself wanting to see a straight take on this story." Apparently they are unfamiliar with The Insider.

I can't imagine how anyone would see that and think, "Man, that movie really needed more dramatic tension." That's like saying you wanted the actors to take the Cannonball Run more seriously. It's like, if you didn't like that aspect of it, how much better did you think it was gonna get?

Or they could just read the book.

I personally think Smokey & the Bandit should've been more like Vanishing Point.
