Title: 9/11/01 Ave. A East Village NYC
Post by: HaroldBlvd on September 11, 2009, 02:59:47 AM
In the light of certain demonstrations planned for Sept 12, here is what it was really like right after 9/11/01 on a street half just a half mile from ground zero, in the city in which it happened.

Actually, I'm on the 9/11/01 show archive (Sept 18, 2001 ). I called in to Tom to complain about the way Howard Stern was scaring his listeners with stories of more attacks and destruction. Tom agreed with that Stern was off base. He talked about how he used to listen to Stern but got tired of him.

This show is unique in the Best Show history. It is 2 hours of Tom just reflecting and  listening to people and their reactions to the event. If you ever want to get an insight into the type of person Tom is you might want to listen to this show. While the comedy was put on hold, Tom showed his true compassion for people. No scare tactics here, only one man trying to make sense of the tragedy that just happened and calling on his listeners to come together and share their shock and sorrow.
A truly amazing Best Show.

I think that the 9-18-2001 episode was my introduction to the show.  What a strange memory to summon- I can remember pretty well the route I was driving as I listened.

I've been a listener for almost two years and only recently began listening to the archives chronologically. A few days ago, the 9/18/01 show came on and it was such a refreshing example of the immediate reaction to that day. These archives are offering some valuable perspective.

Harold, thank you for the video.

Wasn't the 9/18 (or 9/11) show the installment where Tom came up with the term "Friends of Tom" instead of "Army"
