Title: Use of Holy Moley
Post by: Richard_From_CHI on February 19, 2007, 10:00:31 PM
Tom,

I recently picked up the DC Shazam! showcase collection (which might I note is delightful). I notice that Billy Batson (the protagonist who turns into captain marvel) regularly says "Holy Moley" which you too are in the habit of saying.

Are you a Captain marvel fan?

Richard

Wisdom of Solomon? Check. Strength of Hercules? Check. Double check. Stamina of Atlas? Triple check for the ladies, do you know what I mean? Power of Zeus? Quadruple check. Courage of Achilles? Quintuple check. Speed of Mercury? Whatever comes after quintuple check!

Hot damn, Richard, I think you just unmasked Captain Marvel. Now Sabbac knows where to find him. Thanks a lot!

TITANS TOGETHER!

I get to be Robin, okay? T. Rox can be Beast Boy, Richard, you can be Cyborg, Purple Shirt can be Starfire, Megan can be Wonder Girl, Petey is obviously Impulse, and, uh, I guess Sathington can be Raven. And Jason can be Mr. Myxlplyx.

I can be the guy that says "Holy Moley, you guys are nerds!  Save that talk for the comics shop!"

Ouch.  The only more unflattering M*A*S*H-related comparison you could make would be to call someone the Frank Burns of the FOT (cue someone calling me that).

She was an idiot and everyone made fun of her (in the movie, anyway), neither of which applies to Laurie.

yeah, and she wasn't even that hot.  I see Laurie more as the Riff Randell of the FOT.  Just ask Mahkey

It's a pretty common expression, I think Juelz Santana says it a lot too, for example.

It is actually spelled "moly" though, and it's a mythical herb!

"Moly (Greek: μῶλυ) is a magic herb with a black root and white blossoms in Greek mythology. In Homer's Odyssey, Hermes gave this herb to Odysseus to protect him from Circe's incantation. It can be plucked only by celestial hands."
