The Mountain Goats were on the Colbert Report last night with friend of the show John Darnielle having a nice interview and then a performance featuring Jon Wurster on drums. I don't know who the bassist is, but he seems to have a Friends of Tom sticker on his bass, which is visible in this clip:

I could not get the video to embed here, but I adjusted the clip so it's at the point where the FOT sticker is most visible. Yay

That's definitely very exciting, but man... this thread title is misleading.

Yeah, that was neat. Hope they get the Colbert bump.
The bassist's name is Peter Hughes, I believe.

Just caught this on the replay and sure enough the FOT are already on the case! Here's a photo for the non-Hulu inclined:

Yes, it is Peter Hughes. He was in a band called Diskothi-Q and has made five of their albums available for download here (http://www.fivetools.com/diskothiq/) if anyone is interested.

I finally watched it this morning. It was a pretty solid performance all around. Jon's a great drummer.

I Tweeted this the night the show aired, but thought I'd repeat it here because I love the sound of my own, uh...typing?
Anyway, every time Wurster was in the shot, my wife went, "Wait, whuuuuuut?" I've created a monster.
She was also surprised that he "looked too normal."
