Friend of the FOTs Paul F Tompkins is coming to Toronto with two shows at the Rivoli on October 25th. Apparently he hasn't been to Toronto in many years and had no plans to pass through, but was convinced to do so by a Facebook mini-movement:

Anyhow, tickets are available here and I'm guessing they'll go fast, especially after the shows are listed in the weeklies tomorrow:

You know what to do.

Do you have any idea how far Canada is from New Port Richey?
This thread is ridiculous.

I am super excited.

Motherfucker! The one weekend I pick to go on vacation. I am always going to hold a grudge against PFT about this now.

Me too!

F Ricks, stop off in Statesville at the intersection of I-77 and I-40. It's the hard drug capital of NC!

Take the last train to Statesville.
I'll meet you at the station.

You could revise the route westward a bit and visit both Knoxville AND Cincinnati.

I've been to Knoxville never Cincinnati. Seriously, my heart probably couldn't stand the excitement.

You've been to Knoxville, and you didn't paint "Media Squat" on the Sunsphere? I am pretty disappointed. Hell, I would have bought you a pack of Pall Malls.

OK so I just got back from the show and it was amazing as you would expect. Paul was in fine form and it was a nice intimate space in which to see him. I fully understand now why Tom always says there is no one better at stand-up.
Afterward he came out to sign things and I didn't have his CD with me so I whipped out my FOT card. His pen used silver ink and the card is silver so I gave him a black felt tip. When he finished he stuck his hand out to return the pen and in my anxiety I had forgotten it was mine, so I shook his fist instead. He tried to shift to a hand-shaking grip but couldn't quite because he was still holding the pen. Very awkward. He laughed good-naturedly while I turned red and scuttled away.
The truly sad thing is I'm neurotic enough that I might never be able to listen to PFT again without reliving my moment of shame.

This is a great story. I'm sure PFT would just remember that he signed someone's FOT card, not the awkwardness afterward. But you probably know that already.

Perhaps you're right. And there is the fact that much of his comedy is about terribly awkward situations he has created for himself, so maybe he could identify.

At least you had the nerve to talk to him.
I had the same idea about my FOT card, but he was sitting there after the late show by himself and I just bolted past with a goofy grin on my face.
That was the funniest stand up show I have ever seen live.
TOP NOTCH!
More funny comedians come to Toronto.
