Title: Best posthumous album?
Post by: yesno on October 18, 2009, 03:42:44 PM
What do you think the best album released after its principal writer/performer died is?

I'm listening to "I am the Cosmos" by Chris Bell and it's not only heartbreaking that he died, but that the album didn't see the light of day until 1992.  So that's my vote.

Was Joy Division's Closer posthumous? If so, that's probably my vote.

"I am the Cosmos" by Chris Bell

What I came in here to post. I wish I could go back in time and give Chris Bell a big hug.

Two choices for me:

"Interstellar Space" by John Coltrane and "Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963" by Sam Cooke.

I'm not sure how many I've actually heard, but George Harrison's "Brainwashed" immediately comes to mind.

You're on the right track, but you've got the wrong Beatle.

P.S. I'd also add that Del Shannon's "Rock On" is pretty excellent.  Produced by Jeff Lynne and Mike Campbell.

I should at least nod to Gram Parson's Grievous Angel.

Lee Marvin?

Yah, remember when he was in Paint Your Wagon? He got tired of the tough guy stuff and all he wanted to do was sing his little heart out:

Come to think of it, maybe he should've checked in with Leonard Cohen instead.

You try to say that doesn't look like mustache-period Lee Marvin and you'll find yourself in trouble, partner.

Also, standing below and to the right of Lee Marvin is Abe Vigoda.
