Nothing to do tonight except listen. Clearly.

This is like courtroom sketches. We will never be allowed to see what goes on behind those doors.
-
Amazing work!! You totally captured the Voice of Tom, beyond a shadow. I say you animate it!
-

-
I don't like it... I love it!
-
You get an A for effort.
AND an A for results. That's two As!
-
You should this every week :)
-
Oh man, I love these so so much.
-
yeah, guy, those are good.
-
So great, Mike!
-
I can finally find out what Spike and Larry Da Purv looks like!
-
Great stuff!
-
Thanks guys!
I can finally find out what Spike and Larry Da Purv looks like!
THIS is why I'll keep doing this. I want to be as surprised as you are, too.
-
good job
-
Fantastic, well done!
-
These are seriously awesome. I say you make a flipbook. I'd buy one.
-
Brilliant! More please!!
-
excellent
-
Ohmigosh, so good !!!!
-
I agree with everyone here -- these are great! Thank you :)
-
I'm definitely going to do some for next week. I just realized that it's going to be almost impossible to not draw Spike looking like Truman Capote.
-
Love it! Nice job!
-
So good! I think we might have the illustrations for Tom's first book, the compendium of Best Show.
-
Fantastic. Do one of Tom conducting "Macarthur Park," I beg you.

How bout this? I want to do him conducting the orchestra, too.
-
These are amazing. Between you and Regular Joe, I harbor a kinda-sad wish to see some of the Best Show Fan Fiction entries in comics form. Of course, due to the current state of the economy, all the hard work that would take would only be able to be paid for in kiss currency.
-
That Macarthur Park picture is glorious. So talented.
-
Tom singing MacArthur Park is the best thing I've seen all week.
Also, thanks for capturing my GOMP.
I want more!
-
Amazing (again)!
-
You did not disappoint, my friend. Glorious indeed.
-
Holly MOLLEY!!! You captured it, friend!
-
Please tell me you're a professional drawing-dude, MikefromHalifax. (Because if you're not, you shoud be, I mean.)

Kiss currency or KISS Kurrency? Because I have to believe that this is Gene Simmons' secret, most beloved project.

I am a full-time, professional drawing-dude, and will be noted as such on my business cards from this day forth.
I'm looking forward to next week with John Hodgman now. He'll be fun to cartoon on.
-
You take requests? I'd like a sketch of Tom behind the mic wearing the mask from his twitter avatar.

I thought about rephrasing that for a while because of the KISS konfusion. I really did. And then I started thinking about whether Ace or Peter would get stuck with the penny, realized that they'd both have to share the penny and forgot to change what I was writing in the first place.
-
Well done.

Gene is on all bills and coins. Paul is on the back of the penny, down in the corner. Ace and Peter are expunged. Tommy and Eric are paid with KISS Kurrency, redeemable for merch only. They've been living off KISS-cuccinos for three years now.
-
These are tremendous.
"Rolling around in record dirt"? As long as my folks never see this, I'll never have to explain why I deserved that kind of reaction.
Mike In M.

dude. amazing.

Mike -- you're awesome! Love these!

Here's my flickr site, if you want to see more of my stuff: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dubblelightnin/
You guys are very nice to say all that. I hope Tom doesn't think this is creepy at all.
-
These really are the best.
And nice attention to detail on Tom's one headphone on / one headphone off style.
-
Fantastic!
-
those toons are seriously awesome, Mike. Keep 'em coming!
-
this is what im missing!
also, yes, these are great.
-
Just saw this topic. Holy moley. Top notch work, Mike! Love the clean simpleness of the line work while still managing to emote like crazy through just the faces and hand positions. Love love love it!
-
Those are really really great!
You get the Rooky Of The Year Stamp of Approval.
-
You also get my 2006? 2007? Rookie of the Year nominee stamp of approval. Take that as you will.

Nicely done! I have officially been blown away and *cannot* wait to see future sketches!.

And, Halifax has been represented fully in the quest to get Paul F. Tompkins. Thanks Mark.
-
Mike, not sure if you take requests.
I would love to see sketch of Tom doing his fantasy basketball draft at Kinko's with his magazines and printouts all around. ;D
-
That I can do.
Sorry I quit halfway through the show - I had a deadline come up and had to do some payin' work. But I'll update this week. Mostly with PFT and John Hodgman's stories of unbridled rage.
-
You sure about that, Steve?

I think it's hilarious, however I will not forgive you until you add a thought-bubble with a giant bat mask in it. The scarier the better.

I particularly like the forelock poking out from the hoodie.

I would love to see a variety of your cartoons voted on by the FOT, for one to become a t-shirt for the next premium!

I second that emotion.
-
Just chanting along with the crowd, here, but they're really quite fantastic.
-
Nice drawings, Mike. Trivia fact: My ladyfriend is a fellow Coast-ployee. Coastributer?
Anyway, your 2-D Toms are good.
-
Thanks again, guys. I wasn't home last night so I didn't get to do the live drawing, but DAMN I wish I had when you-know-who finally copped to not writing you-know-what.
Strikedynamo: then we've probably met at one of the parties, I would imagine. Nice avatar - have you seen the video I directed for the Superfantastics?

-
holy crow
-
Mike,
Somehow I have never seen this. It is excellent and a wonderful coincidence.
-
So I'm in Montreal and don't have my scanner, but I had some downtime today and had to get this out:

Now you can't unsee that.
-
Awesome...that was my favourite part of the show last week. Just need to see Tom's mirth after Spike admits that for the perfect 3-panel sequence!

I like how Spike looks like a dissipated Jedi.
-
Great depiction of Spike! I really hope Lisa Jane bags him for the FOTo project.
-
That is exactly how Spike has always looked in my imagination.

Me too! Me too! The look is sorta, "What if my grandma were a guy?"

Is it weird that Spike always looks like a baggier Elvis Costello in my mind?

oh god.

I certainly don't want you to come all the way to Halifax just to punch me in my face (although you could come at part of PFT's entourage). In the interest of international diplomacy, here you go.

I really wanted to live up to everyone's expectations, especially if those expectations were of a basset hound wearing a bathrobe.

What's really weird is that Spike's eternal plea that he can't come down and do the show with Tom because "that would ruin the mystique!" has become as true as anything there ever was. It is way more fun to speculate, and I think that Spike, as much of a fathead as he can be, deserves at least a tip of the hat for taking this all in stride.
He is a total woman hater though, and I love when Tom busts him on it.
-
Off topic (slightly), but do we know that Spike is a white dude?

Through things he has said I believe he is African American.

Through things he has said I believe he is a squirrel hiding his nuts.
But he doesn't hide his "nuts" very well, do he?

I wonder if Spike really is @WEIRDOSEXPOSED ... but he doesn't KNOW he is!

That is actually pretty spot on with what I've always thought Spike looked like. Great stuff!
-
i found internet and time to spare at the same time, in which case, i am expressing...THESE ARE AMAZING.

Fredericks? You don't have a facebook? I thought you were a man of the future! All I did was set it as my profile picture and give props to Mike From Halifax for drawing it. Nothing different about the sketch.
And if you ARE on facebook, send me a friend request, good sir!
-
Fredericks? You don't have a facebook? I thought you were a man of the future!
No, Steve, I am not on Facebook.
I have had a few people encourage me to.
But, thus far, I've resisted.
How much private info must you provide to join?
I might do it.
I just don't want to lose my "mystique".

Fontastic!
Fredericks, you don't really have to provide too much info. Probably just a first and last name and a zip code. And like I said, you're not missing much by not seeing that link, since it's just the same picture.
Guard your mystique as you see fit.

All I can see when I look at it is an unnecessary apostrophe. Arg.

All I can see when I look at it is an unnecessary apostrophe. Arg.
Sir, you betray your ignorance of automobile history! Charles Roll --inventor of the distinctive "Royce" style fancy horseless carriage-- was a great man and philanthropist. You dishonor his name, and his famous product.
-
Mostly indisputable facts, without question. But he was Charles Rolls, with the "s" pre-installed. I do his name a disservice by carelessly jamming an apostrophe into his surname where none was needed. I am no better than the restaurant owner who refuses to proofread his menu, sending out lists of "Burger's" and "Appetizer's" to confused and irritated English majors.
-
Dammit, Mike [ed.: Mark], I was trying to give you an out by massaging the facts! Now my hands are sore from all the massaging, and I've accomplished nothing.
Guess I better just watch more live Big Star videos.
-
All I can see when I look at it is an unnecessary apostrophe. Arg.
that copy-center riff raff would have thought the apostrophe was there anyway. great picture. love the humilation and anger and hoodie. Thank's you.

I am a little taken aback by how confrontational Wally Wackiman is. He's burnin' a little hot tonight.
-
Hman went a little Bickle there at the end, but he did have a point. That said, I'm a Wackiman fan now.
Oh, and the drawing's good too. ;D
-
Amazing job yet again, Mike from Halifax.
-
He's definitely not Gonzo. His ego and self-esteem are a little healthier. Picture is awesome.
-
Wally Wackiman is growing from a small bud and blossoming into a powerful flower. He's the Nate Hartley to Z-Man's Steve in North Hollywood.
-
Wackiman was ON last night.
-
Omar can probably confirm / correct this, but there was an episode where Spike vaguely described himself by comparing himself to persons of renown and he exclusively used African American reference points.
Also I love these sketches.

I'll definitely revisit Spike the moment he emerges from the graveyard. Until then, he remains a Droopy.

There should be a sketch of Shane/Shawn.
-
When do we get to see more, please?
-
Ahhh...it's been a while since I listened live (aside from the record-breaking marathon shows). It's been an insanely busy few months for me, but I want to get back to this...tomorrow night maybe?
Tomorrow night.

Seconded!!!

It's been over a year since I posted any sketches here, but I was working on a few things tonight and listening. I laughed out loud during the last few minutes of the show, and dropped everything else to draw this.

Thanks, Big Z. I make and perform muppety puppets as well, so I've got a soft spot for Wally.
-
Mike! I hadn't seen this thread before, but I want to add my voice to the chorus and say that you're doing great work.
I wouldn't have known about your "true story" series without the on-air mention of your excellent rendering of the Dogmo/sprinkler story. I love it!
Salut to you, sir!
-
Thanks, Big Z. I make and perform muppety puppets as well, so I've got a soft spot for Wally.
That's great, Mike. I'm so glad you enjoy Wally's antics. I actually was just looking you up online and saw one little fuzzy dude. Looks pretty cool. Nice to find someone else into all of this puppet/-making stuff in the FOT crowd. I also looked at your image gallery. Really nice, varied, and funny stuff in there.
